  1. Thank you very much for your reply, I'll download it now and check it out.

EDIT: I can't find the SWAT van? You know where it is.

I think it's the same van as Zulu1 posted but I thought it came with the Ocean Island Pack as I am pretty sure I used it on that island at one point.

The error that pops, I think that has to do with a missing addon?

  2. Love this thread, can't believe I just found it now.

Aye, bayonets are needed. I miss them from the UKF infantry addon. It was extremely satisfying gutting an enemy in close quarters. Anybody arguing against it should go try out the UKF addons for OFP.

Cold steel. The AI don't like it up 'em.

  3. I thought it would have been obvious ArmA 2 isn't a flight simulator.

Then why not remove the choppers and let the AI control it and not promise it to be playable. If the gameplay has not been intended for it then why put it? No point really.

The gameplay stresses combined arms. Plus, there's nothing like popping smoke as infantry on a position that you want your buddy, who is in a gunship, to rocket the crap out of.

Think first before you reply. Seriously, you have not played warrock yet. I think its not that hard to simulate a chopper. Try other games that has better controls first before you comment. And please keep your noobish comments to yourself. Thank you

It's nearly impossible to combine infantry sim, tank sim and flight sim in one game. Compromises have to be made.

One more thing. The game promised 100+- playable game vehicles. correct? nuff said

100+ vehicles and variants. Your point being?

  4. It depends what you mean by shocking online performance. If you mean a constant low fps, as in the game is constantly slow (like watching a slide show) then don't know what's causing that (unless you're running Windows 7 in which case, there's your cause).

What do you mean? I am running Windows 7 64 and everything is fine.

  5. Hmmm. Did you receive a message that objective 2 had been completed? I think what happened is that you have to clear all enemies within a 30x30 radius of the peak and there are some guys really hidden in those rocky crannies - while testing I couldn't find guys even while using Cadet's radar mode :p

I didn't receive a message so I guess there were still some bods hiding somewhere. I find that the soldiers in ArmA2 tend to blend in really well with the environment that I have trouble spotting enemies.

One reason I used a perimeter trigger is that when I named actual units to be killed, ie.AA1, even if you killed the user, the unit was still alive until you killed the actual gun. That made for a very time consuming blowing up of 8 or so units. The other is that all of the Static guys, ie. Ags-30;Kord;AA, are programmed to hop out of their units if Blufor gets too close to him and join the firefight, and then get back in.

I can't remember how it works, but wouldn't placing empty AA pods in with guys (named AA1 etc.) given an order to board them get around that?

The tanks are rolling toward you once the mission starts to give you a real sense of urgency, but I wonder how long did it take them to arrive? It should have been about 20 minutes. And of course, the choppers only come after Objective 2 is complete, but I will test this thoroughly today.

Edit- The tank warning comes when the tanks reach Elektrozavodsk, but they are en route to Chernogorsk, that means right down that beach-y road you are on.

I think it took them 10-15 mins to arrive but I am not entirely sure. I think it was about 5 mins after the message appeared that they were heading to Chernogorsk.

Did you say you assaulted the mountain from the front?!?

Hehe, yeah. The message appeared saying that the tanks are on the way so instead of flanking, which I thought would take to long, I went up the hill with my Corpsman, the other two in my section were slower in getting up. My guy did fall twice though.

One of the worst things about mission editing, people who play your missions tend to do things completely different than you expect! :biggrin_o:

  6. They look great so far to my untrained eye. Looking forward to using these on Chernarus, I'm getting tired of the USMC already!

How does the DPM look in Chernarus? If you have gotten to play about with them yet. I ask 'cos I find that the Russkies and other green clad soldiers tend to blend in quite well, either that or my eyes are failing me.

    Keep up the cracking work.

  7. First of all:

Seaborne invasion missions - always good.

Secondly, major issues with the mission:

    - The tanks that go to Chernogorsk drive right up to the beach, waste any survivors and shoot at me and the AI troops on the hill. By the sounds of it, they were meant to remain in the city?

    - I killed all the AA pod operators but no choppers came. I don't know if they arrive before hand, the mission got a bit confusing (which is good) with fire coming from everywhere, but I am sure I saw a chopper wreck in the woods east of the peak.

Once you fix up this mission it will be pretty good. I have a pretty good 'puter so no performance issues. Here's a short AAR:

Ordered the boat to go forward, shot at enemy on the hill with my 50 and had the boat land in an area that provided cover. Disembarked, moved forward where my squad got pinned down and took 2 or 3 KIA. A warning message came up saying tanks arrived so I had my and my squad go up the front of the hill, cleared out the enemy on the top. I am sure I got all AA pod operators but there was no confirmation message, I think the hill is clear too.

  8. The key word in the above replies is "I".

Everybody has their own beliefs on what the core of ArmAII is, some consider that to be MP COOP other consider it to be the editor, arguing is kind of pointless. :)

    Back to the topic.

I can see the potential the campaign has but the bugs ruin a lot of the experience. I am on Manhattan and am having trouble with the Mi-24 pick up for that woman. Frustrating.

  9. I attempted this mission a few times so I can get all the evidence then capture Bardak. Every time I have done this and went to a location for evidence Bardak was there meaning I had to retry it.

This time that didn't happen. I went to the quarry first, then the Castle then the Northern most X. Got all pieces of evidence but no Bardak! I also checked the power plant but he wasn't there either.

    Where is that bugger?

We know he can go to:

    - Quarry

    - Power Plant

    - Castle

    - Northern most X

And now Stary Sobor, is that actually one of the places? Or a bug, Max Power?

I have tried to get to Stary Sobor by chopper but on the first run one of my guys took a hit and then the second time it was by Ural from Vishnoye, where I got shot the minute I exited the truck at the crossroads between Vishnoye and Sobor. Are there just troops there?

    ---------- Post added at 14:45 ---------- Previous post was at 13:16 ----------

Ha! Got the booger in Gorka in a red VW after the 20min message appeared. God knows where he came from.

  10. Yeah, you don't really need the book but for his first build it might help him a bit. The CPU manual just had pictures and didn't tell me how hard I would have to push down on the catch to secure the metal plate (which was scarily hard) or that I would nearly have a heart attack with the sound of four almight 'snaps' securing the CPU fan into the motherboard making think I broke the damn thing. Otherwise, it's not needed.

  11. Hi delta. I built my first computer a few weeks ago and it was easier than I thought it would be. Far better value for money than going for some pre-built piece of crap. Here's an i7 build I quickly put together which has the newest 1366 sockets and has a faster clock speed than the Phenom and it also has 6GB of RAM. It's similar to the one I built. Feel free to play about with the parts, but not the motherboard and CPU obviously. :)

As I said it is similar to my build apart from the optical drive and HDD. As ch_123 said use the Windows 7 64-bit RC until the OEM version of it comes out, that's what I did. So far I haven't had any problems with the computer so far and ArmAII runs great on the standard high setting, I haven't played about with the advanced settings yet as I have been playing other games.

I suggest you go and visit at least one dedicated computer hardware forum for advice, one such as Tom's Hardware and ask them what they suggest and show them builds suggested to you. At the end of the day it is up to you, personally, I would go with an i7 build.

As for building it I bought a book which was most helpful as it is written in a non-robotic way that the part manuals are usually written in. However, do read all the manuals and the guide book you choose, read them carefully and with a bit of common sense you will do fine. Here are a couple books I have picked out (the one I used was a UK one so it isn't there), these are the most up to date ones as far as I can tell:

    http://www.amazon.com/Build-Your-Yourself-Dummies-Computer/dp/0470196114/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247316939&sr=1-1

    http://www.amazon.com/Build-Fix-Own-Beginners-Upgrading/dp/0789738279/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247316939&sr=1-4

Here are a couple that are 2-5 years old but I guess that shouldn't matter if it's just advice on building the PC once you get the parts:

    http://www.amazon.com/Build-Your-Own-PC-4th/dp/0072255595/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247316939&sr=1-2

    http://www.amazon.com/Building-Perfect-Second-Robert-Thompson/dp/0596526865/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247316939&sr=1-3

When you come to actually build the PC be careful when it comes to static electricity as it can ruin your parts. If you are on a tight budget and don't want to spend money on anti-static protection here are a few tips. When you are working on the motherboard place it on its anti-static wrapping. Leave all parts in their anti-static protection until you need them. Work on a hard and flat surface. Frequently earth yourself to a nearby radiator or the PC case itself.

If you want to spend a little money on protecting your investment then you can purchase an anti-static mat and wrist strap for working on the PC.

    http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-M3013-24x26-Desktop-Anti-Static/dp/B00009XT3H/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247317638&sr=8-1

    http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Anti-Static-Wrist-Adjustable-Grounding/dp/B00004Z5D1/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247317747&sr=1-3

To build the PC you will need a screwdriver. That's it really, but if you have something to pick up screws that fall into the case (which will inevitably happen) then that will be useful. Some people might suggest a PC repair kit but apart from the screwdriver and tool for picking up lose screws you won't need the rest of the stuff it comes with.

Good luck with it and remember to read the instructions and use common sense, it will save you unnecessary headaches!

  13. Changed my mind and decided to go and build a PC, got the time on my hands anyway.

Building one mainly for gaming between 500-700 GBP. So no uber i7 machine.

    Couple questions first of all.

    DDR2 v DDR3? Is DDR3 worth it?

Dual Core or Quad Core? A mate told me not to bother with Quad Core but looking at some articles it seems Quad Core would be the correct choice?

  14. Thanks, it worked no problem.

I have another question. I am finally getting rid of my ancient piece of crap PC from 2003. I was going to build my own but I have changed my mind. I came across this PC in Costco for 583.98 GBP.

    HP

    - Intel Core Quad Q8200 2.33GHz

    - 4GB DDR2 SDRAM

    - 1 TB SATA 3GB Hard Disk

    - DVD Writer SATA

    - ATI HD 4650 1GB

    - 20" Screen

How would you rate that? Is it a good deal?

I was also thinking about this one:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-067-OE&groupid=43&catid=1184&subcat=

    This one:

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1722296828.1244835854@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccceadehhfigjeicflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&category_oid=-35614&sku=752419&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null

Any other sites where I can get more bang for my buck? I am not looking to spend more than 650GBP, could stretch it up to 700 though.

I was looking at one site last week and it let you pick a category where you could modify a basic build (such as Gamer - Basic) I swear that was Overclockers but I can't find that page.

  15. As I was switching off the desktop I chose to install the updates that have downloaded. It went to the blue Windows XP screen which shows you the progress of the installation. It's been stuck on "Installing update 5 of 11...Do not turn off or unplug your computer; it will turn off automatically."

It has been like that for two hours now. I have no idea what the update was, however.

    Can anybody help?

    Windows XP SP3

    P4 2.66GHz

    Nvidia 7600GS 512MB

    1 GB RAM

  16. The Labour Party in the UK is having major problems with the spending scandal, various cabinet resignations, and etc. So, it isn't suprising that the Conservatives have gained the upper hand in that country.

The expenses scandal is a party wide thing. The Conservatives had their hands in the pie too, and are just as bad as Labour if not worse. Labour is taking most of the flak but most folk don't like any of the parties after they found out about the scandal.
