The link is down. Could somebody please upload it or know of a working link? -
First of all, thanks for making a mission for The Unsung! It was a solid effort with the only issues I encountered so far being native Arma 2 AI ones. By the way, for those that don't know, putting the AI into formation Delta forces them to move at a faster pace. The briefing was very good and detailed. A lot of missions skimp on the briefing but I feel that a well fleshed out one like you have in BDA helps give the mission a bit of "life" to it. The mission is interesting, I can't remember having played anything like it, it's very challenging though to get out with everyone alive. Need to sharpen those FAC skills! If you ever do an updated version I'd put a reminder into the readme or something for the player to change the default weapons and gear. I found myself losing the firepower battle first time around. I think this mission would be pretty good in COOP too but I know MP editing is a bit of a tricky business. Really nice mission overall.

Thank you for posting in this thread. I'm sure the community appreciates it. I certainly do. I use Steam too but I don't like this trend where it seems to be coming to the point where it's the only option. I have to get up early for work tomorrow :( and we could be arguing here all night but I don't think we're going to see eye to eye. I respect that you have a different opinion though I may not agree with it entirely. I'm bowing out for now. It has been a good debate. :)

Origin is clearly designed to be a direct competitor to Steam by offering a set of similar functions and aims. That you personally don't rate the system doesn't change its purpose. Steam also exists to maximise profits otherwise it would stop growing. At the end of the day any digital distribution system is in competition with each other. They don't have to be exact copies of each other to be competitors. Not seeing it. As far as I know So basically you don't know? Why would they not? If it's a Steamworks game then don't Steam need to provide the keys? If I'm wrong on this please correct me. Not a great system IMHO.
-
Steam has a huge share of the digital distribution market, the idea that they don't compete is strange. It's capitalism 101. Origin wouldn't exist otherwise. Games are always cheaper from even brick and mortar stores than Steam. Especially cheaper from online retailers like Play or Amazon. Steam will get a share as I very much doubt they'd be happy giving other places keys to sell without seeing anything in return. That other digital retailers now have to sell Steam keys just shouts problem to me. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-08-30-steam-vs-origin-is-competition-good-for-gamers-article But however good it is at what it does, healthy competition is vital. Not only because it drives innovation, keeps prices down and helps grow the PC market, but also because a Steam-only future might not be the level-headed utopia we'd all like to imagine. "Any monopoly is dangerous," insists Lovell. "It's all well and good we think Steam are the good guys today, but Google used to be the good guys. They used to be the upstarts, and now we're all a bit afraid of them. The good guys, once they get into power, can become the not-so-good guys. "Any time somebody can stifle what comes to market by their choices, it's an issue. If - and I'm not saying this is happening yet - Steam goes, 'I don't like your game', then it can just stop an indie from getting their game into a meaningful marketplace." Regarding the last paragraph, this has already happened. Steam turned down a wargame by a couple of indie devs and if they hadn't been able to sell it on their site we wouldn't have the gem that is Unity of Command. Only later when it established itself did Steam relent. What's sad is refusing to accept that your opinion is not the be all and end all.

Going to quote myself since some seem to think there's unjustified hate towards Steam: At least it might make it a bit more difficult for you to pirate Arma 3 like you did with OA.
-
Well, since it's Steamworks, it requires to Steam to function no matter where you get it from so Steam still gets a cut from wherever it is you buy. Sorry, I just don't see how supporting the Steam monopoly is good for the consumer in the end. I'm surprised people are so callous about it.
-
Only in a special case I'd guess, like Steam going bust, as it will be a Steamworks game. Which as far as I understand means that it requires Steam to work.
-
I know you're not supposed to cross-post but the discussion on Steam was moved here just after I had posted in the other thread.

One funny thing on this thread is that we have people who sang the praises of BIS for not being tied down to one distributor/distribution method. Now, with this news, some of those same people are defending this move saying it will be great. What? I don't have a problem with Steam per se and I don't, at least didn't mind, Steam exclusive games but it's getting far too common nowadays. Arma 3 is the latest one to be swallowed up by something that's turning into The Blob. To those who say "you're just whining". How is wanting to protect my consumer rights and options not good? How is being against the Steam dominance on digital distribution bad? Steam isn't even good value for money where I live. The more of a share it gets in the digital distribution market the more we, the consumer, get shafted since there's no real competition. I'm a huge fan of what BIS have done with their games since I first played the OFP demo way back in 2001 and I was looking forward to Arma 3. Not so keen now though, unless it's really good. Oh yeah, reading these bits in the blog post triggered a little alarm bell. That they haven't gotten much attention is surprising. ...we were not happy with how the project was going...do all we can to release Arma 3 in 2013. Wow, what happened?

Just finished the game in coop - worst ending ever.

Thought this video was pretty funny: ADqIh9_zAp4 Serious question, why is this game in particular getting hammered? Playing it so far it doesn't seem any worse in terms of gameplay or story than your run of the mill shooters (bugs aside) most of which have been highly rated by the same gaming press. Well, last standard shooter I played was Medal of Honor 2010 but I can't remember any huge difference in execution - same usual corridors and scripted events. Did it not stay true to the films? I only got this since a mate wanted to do coop so I haven't seen any of them. EDIT Well, damn, that is pretty bad!

Getting so tired of the OT section being some sort of second home to conspiracy theorists. Yes, politics etc. require balanced examination, however, there's "reasonable doubt" and then there's "completely outlandish". I just miss the days where we had a decent OT section. Yes because a veteran politician would just casually slip a huge thing like that out in an interview. That she was killed has probably more to do with the fact that Pakistan has a fragile political system as demonstrated by the many coup attempts since independence and the seemingly never ending violence. Interesting. When I challenged some of your previous claims and asked you where the evidence was you basically said "it's not necessary".

MARSOC Marine Special Operations Team
-Snafu- replied to Meatball0311's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
This is, hands down, my favourite unit addon for Arma 2. Thanks to Meatball 0311 and anybody else involved for the great work. The ACE configs are much appreciated too. -
Why not stick it in the editing section where only people who make stuff go? That way it won't be filled with "spam". It was an editing thread after all.

A template for JDog's awesome USS Nimitz addon. Basically I wanted to create some missions with JDog's Nimitz but the immersion wasn't that great when you and your aircraft were the only two things on the whole ship. I looked around for a template for the carrier but didn't find one so I made one myself. Might as well release so others can use it. Instead of just having the Nimitz with planes, deck crew and objects I added the rest of its group: Carrier Strike Group 11 which is lying off of Utes with one Los Angeles Class Sub screening the group, two Ticonderoga Class Cruisers at the front of the formation, two Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers at the sides, two Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigates at the rear and one Supply Class fast combat support ship next to the Nimitz for food, fuel and ammunition supply. Although some of these are available as addons I used substitutes as necessary. This was to reduce the number of required addons while making it easy for the user to add in the extra things. A text document in the archive will give you links to these addons. There's also a folder containing information on the CSG and its units as well as pictures to aid in mission making. Changes since 1.0: ----Changelog---- - Used setPosASL and getPosASL - Reduced addons required - Added F/A-18 and US Navy Work Uniform - Updated CVW-11 information and ORBAT to reflect current organisation - Some small changes ReadMe Required Addons JDog's USS Nimitz: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=13540 F/A-18 Super Hornet: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=18278 US Navy Work Uniform: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=10261 Download Links Click me Screenshots

Some much needed TLC on the way for this template. I lost a nice WIP version along with a lot of unfinished missions when I stupidly, accidentally, deleted my profile. I lost all motivation to bother with it until today - for some reason. I grabbed a copy of the old one to work from and in the process decided to go for a lightweight version. This means it requires less addons but the template can be easily modified in the mission editor for those who want proper ships and MMA functionality. A text document will be provided with links to those addons. The template itself is done although there can always be improvements to the layout of the things on the carrier but what is there will do for now. All I need to do is update the information, pictures and readme. The following addons will be the only ones required for the new version:

Just to check, did you enable it? For Arma 2 you need to enable TIR in the controllers section of options. I assume it's the same for TOH.

Hell in the Pacific 0.5 beta release
-Snafu- replied to Waxbutter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Do the flares (wx_flare_white etc.) help the AI see in the dark or are they like the vanilla flares in only being useful for the player? By the way, I'm really enjoying the mod, great work. I find that the PTO/CBI seems to fit well with the Arma 2 engine. Night fighting in the jungle is pretty intense!
