  1. I'm pretty sure the Australians have got in just about every big fight for the last 100 years. This has already been pointed out. Your point?

    Another "FRIENDLY" fire incident

It's pretty hard to report on things when there is very little information about a particular incident, because the Ministry of Defence try to cover it up. As would the US Gov. when a similar situation occurs.(Pat Tillman) Take the Sergeant Roberts case for example. There was a big flop about it in Britain because he did not have an ECBA. He was in the Royal Tank Regiment. Tragically in the early days of the Second Iraq War he was shot and killed while dismounted from his tank. The first part of the problem was the MoD's instinctive response whenever anything goes wrong. Whenever a mistake is made the MoD strive furiously to suppress the facts, hoping that time will pass and indignation will die down before anything becomes public. However his death had been the result of a tragic mistake, it wasn't really anything to do with body armour. What had occured was a friendly fire incident. It had been noted that he was killed by a 7,62 tracer round. Emphasis on tracer. This gives strong indication that it was a British weapon that had killed him. Moreover the MoD was investigating his death with particular thoroughness, a full autopsy was carried out and this isn't normally done on battle casualties unless there is suspicion of friendly fire. Furthermore Sergeant Roberts' CO in the customary letter to his wife said that a MG opened fire in support of Roberts' killing an Iraqi but also tragically hitting Steve. Nobody was willing to tell Mrs Roberts' plainly that her husband was killed by friendly fire. This is normal; the MoD always tries to cover up FF incidents. They say it is to spare the families feelings. What it is actually hoping is that it will avoid being called to account for killing it's own people. It was a full year before Mrs Roberts' received a proper account on her husbands death. FF incidents are not new. They happen every so often even in peacetime and will inevitably rise during war time. In the end the armed forces are in the industry of death and violence. They are always going to suffer more industrial accidents than other employers do simply because their machinery is more dangerous by design. This is just speculation. Yes the RAF does have it's shortcomings as do all the other arms. But when the situation occurs there is a commendable push when the Army is screaming for air support and the RAF quickly try to deliver it. One of the main problems is a lack of training between the Army and the RAF, particualrly in communications. Logic would dictate that communication between the British Army and the USAF would be far more problematic considering these forces belong to two seperate nations. But then again I do not know how NATO is commanded in the 'Stan. Like I said, speculation.
  3. Another quote by the old chap; 'The finest Regiment that ever was.' Guess what Regiment? The Gordon Highlanders. Primarily recruited from soldiers around my area as well - NE Scotland. Anyway, good job bobo, quite nice seeing you have just started out addons for ArmA. Keep it up. Oh and also eagerly awaiting to see your British Forces pack with the UKF weapons, BOSS.

    Battle of Britain Day

The 15th of September each year is know as "Battle of Britain Day" throughout the UK to show respect and reflect on how the pilots of the RAF single handedly defended the UK from the onslaught of the German Luftwaffe, thus stopping the invasion of the UK and making the first turning point in the war. Strengths RAF 754 single-seat fighters 149 two-seat fighters 560 bombers 500 coastal 1,963 total Luftwaffe 1,107 single-seat fighters 357 two-seat fighters 1,380 bombers 428 dive-bombers 569 reconnaissance 233 coastal 4,074 total So as you can see the odds were stacked against them and the casualty rates showed that.. RAF Losses 1,023 fighters 524 bombers 1,547 total (27,450 civilians dead, 32,138 wounded) That's a lot of people that gave there lives in direct defense of our country so that we could have a life worth living and now the powers that be have decided to no longer recognise those individuals by declaring we will no longer hold a "Battle of Britain Day" ! Â Below is a link for an E-Petition to lobby the Government to re-recognise this important day and sacrifice. Petition This may not mean much to the younger generation, but it does to a lot of people who's relatives gave there lives for the people of this country and our freedom. Lets defend their memory now, just like they defended us. Â Please, sign this petition, its important. Thank you for reading.

    Battle of Britain Day

Well an ex-RAF lad posted it on the IC-ArmA forums. I just copied and pasted to get it up ASAP. Sorry about that.
  6. Thinking outside the box for one game type doesn't remove animations and transitions that impair the whole game. Like Frantic said, the problem is the same for every player although CTF/DM players notice it especially well. Clumsy animations don't serve anyone and it doesn't help coop gameplay. It only makes coop the less impaired mode because the AI politely wait for your move. *sigh* I'm going to repeat myself AGAIN. Honestly, if your not going to read the thread then don't post. I said the animations need to be tweaked. It doesn't impair the whole game. If it did the entire community would be up in arms about it. There's a lot more important stuff that could be fixed first. Might as well when I'm here. Everyone. Drop the entire CTF v co-op bullshit. They are game modes for fucksake. Eliteist's from both 'sides' need to get their act together (you know who you are). Some people can't except that you can play both MP game modes. It's childish. You assume that CTF is unpopular because it doesn't use new tricks, although in OFP the exact same type of maps are popular even now, and that's what I'm after. I'm not putting game modes in versus mode, I'm making a general point that lousy anims don't favor anyone, they just kick some in the head more than others. I mentioned earlier on in the thread that CTF could be unpopular for a number of reasons, not just the animations alone. I put over the idea that a lot of the maps were the same and then it snowballed from there. Again, it is useful if you read the thread before you post. Check out RockofSl's sig' for advice on this.

  8. I guess activity like that might provoke (gasp) teamwork! Think of it - one team to locate & secure the enemy flag, another team to locate & secure your own flag. Lots of dynamic teamwork as a path from one to t'uther is quickly worked out and put into action. Listen, its hard enough to collect a flag knowing where it is and then trying to get it back to base. These animations make for bad gameplay as it is, so we don't need further complications. I also don't see a big problem with teamwork in CTF, as everyone one is aiming for one goal, wich is to get the flag. Many times i see players typing such things as....left, mid, right, or these signs << >> to indicate where they or the enemy are going. We were just saying to think outside the box, not add that specific feature. I've mentioned this already. But that CTF by Frantic mentioned a couple posts up sounded quite good. Pity I have not seen it in the browser.

    Exams Results

Spend 2 years doing optional education to earn A levels in the UK. Its a higher grade than a GCSE which is what you get if you pass an exam and have good coursework. McWrong. In Scotland we have Highers and they only last for one year. If you decide to stay on for a 6th year you can do an Advnaced Higher if you want to take a certain subject further. For example in 5th year I did Higher History so when I stayed on for 6th year I decided to do Advanced Higher History. Thus I have now got a better qualification in History. I already got my results a few weeks ago and my place at Aberdeen University has been confirmed. OK my bad, not UK but just England (and I believe Wales). Tis OK. I never really knew how it worked in the other places in the UK until today.
  10. But with that little script I suggested, that changes flag positions, how could that make it a different game mode? Your still Capturing The Flag. You could also possibly add a random weapons script where every player could be given a random weapon. That wouldn't change the game mode. I'm not suggesting you change it for league missions, just for Joe Public. Adding randomness to a map only creates WTF reactions and unfairness due to luck. It wouldn't be very fun and I don't need to make a map to see what would happen in it. Of course people would say "lol i got an M9 and the flag teleported 10 m away from me, lmao", but their real meaning is clear when you replace lol with wtf and lmao with bs. That's how net speech has evolved. Hey it was just a suggestion I'm not telling you to add that specific feature. Im just saying think outside the box. Obviously you would have to think things through before adding stuff. You could add scripts like that within reason. The anims are not a pressing issue and won't be fixed too soon (could be wrong). If you want PvP stuff to be more popular your going to have to try something. I've posted in this thread too much times.

    Vilaspack download locations

What addons do I need to run the pack with all those civillian vehicles? Just checking as every single one of those mirrors posted times out and ofp.info is not update with the latest versions of Vilas addons.

  13. How many CTF missions have you played? only Hexenkessel? i have made bigger sized CTF missions too with lot of vehicles, but thats not what the CTF players wanna play. CQB CTF was a lot of fun in OFP and in ArmA its the most often played CTF mission style too, but the animations/movements/controls of the model are disturbing it. Its clear that on bigger areas you wont realize the problematic of the animations/movements/controls of your model. Just go and play DM and you will realize after some time that there is a lot wrong with the animations/controls/movements of your model. When i read that Queens Gambit will bring new islands with big urban areas, then i can just say, OMG, cause with the current state of the animations/movements/controls of your model its just a waste of time to make missions in such a CQB area. Dont understand me wrong, i will buy this expansion for sure, cause i still like ArmA, but my heart is bleeding when i see that this game has failed at so many points. Not only at the controls, ArmA has still a long way till it becomes as good as OFP was. Nah, as usual i will just wait and see what BIS will do...im playing ArmA since the beginning and i always thought that the animations/movements/controls will be overworked for sure, but now its nearly a year ago since the release and many unimportant stuff has been changed, but the most important part, the animations/movements/controls of the model, are still the same. Q has contacted me a while ago with the idea of changing the animations/movements/controls by himself, that would be an idea, but at the same time he would have made a cheat, cause you can go with your modified stuff on public servers too and you will have a big advantage over the others with the standard controls. I think he decided to wait till the tools comes out, cause then he would be able to combine the new movements with an addon like a new model, so nobody can use this as a cheat. We can be happy that ArmA is so modification friendly. For example: Celery already "repaired" the weapons with his little realism mod, where he has made the weapons as accurate as they were in OFP with just a little script. But i would like to see all this stuff done by BIS and not by the community. Cause then people who play ArmA for the first time would be able to enjoy it and they would tell others to buy it too. At the moment its just up side down, many new players dont like ArmA and they tell their friends to not buy it. I've played quite a few CTF missions for both OFP and ArmA in my time. Never played Hexenkessel. I always thought that was some sort of zombie mission. I'm not talking about a big CTF map with lots of vehicles. All that does is add stuff to the map. Think outside the box. Heatseeker I think it was suggested you could put in a script that moved about the flags every so often. These are the kind of ideas I'm talking about that could make the CTF maps a bit more exciting. It would also be a good idea to not squash the buildings together too close. It would allow for a little more freedom of movement. I hated CQB Â in OFP, it was utterly horrible. In ArmA the CQB is better now that you can finally lean around corners. But I do see what you mean by the animations. I know what your on about, I don't need to play DM to see. One DM game I played was one by Celery that had a 'Wild West' theme to it. The buildings were relatively spaced out and I didn't really notice the animations then. OFP was never centered around urban combat and although there are bigger towns ArmA isn't really centered around urban fighting either. What it boils down to is this, the animations aren't going to be tweaked soon, so you might as well adapt to the situation and try out some new ideas.

  15. aha...great...but the problem is not CTF only, its every game-mode which is PvP and not Player VS AI. I have the same animations/movements/controls everywhere in ArmA, so its not one specific game-mode which got problems, all PvP game-modes have the same problems, even COOP has it too. I have made enough different CTF missions (over 30) in ArmA and i think next to COOP, CTF got the most variety of missions...so it cant be the lack of enough different missions. Look at Evolution, its just one mission which is played all day long since some months now. The problem we have is the fact that everybody who plays PvP more often comes to the conclusion that ArmA isnt made for PvP, cause of the animations/movements/controls of your model, which are clumsy, robotic and very slow. Yeah i know ArmA is a simulator and not an arcade game, but in my view was OFP a simulator too and it was still fun to play. Yes the animations are clunky but it doesn't ruin the entire game. Variety? Really? A small square area, with a bunch bulidings and sandbags stuck together, everybody armed with a G36 and two flags in the exact same position allowing both sides to 'camp' at key entry points. I've yet to encounter a CTF map that's different. So PvP isn't playable? Funny how ArmA tournements such as International Confilct are quite popular. I have not heard anyone complain about the anims there. But I do agree about the anim transitions - they need some work.
  16. Because it's boring? Because it's the same tiny box like map? Because those tiny maps are crammed with every single editor object under the sun? Because 9 times out of 10 everyone is issued a G36? Maybe if you 'spiced' up the CTF maps they would become popular again. It's not BIS fault that CTF ain't played as much as in OFP. I mean the CTF maps in OFP are basically the same in ArmA. And before you start mouthing off. No I'm not a co-op player. I dislike Evolution. And I'm not a fanboy, It's been a while since I last played ArmA. Well its funny how them small tiny box maps you mention were played over and over again in ofp, and i don't recall alot of people saying them maps were boring. The maps maybe the same style as in Ofp, but for me the maps arn't the problem. The transitions in the animations are, and if thats not BIS fault who's is it? Look, what I'm saying is that the unpopularity of CTF maps can't be down to the animations alone. It could multiple reasons - one which I pointed out earlier. People may be getting bored playing the same CTF maps over and over again and they change little in design. Ok, you don't think the maps are a problem but a lot of other people may think differently. Moreover I didn't say that the animations are not BIS fault. The transitions are obviously their fault because they made them. What I said was that it may not be BIS fault that CTF is unpopular. You have made quite a few topics on this 'issue' and I don't think it's really a problem. There is so much that can be done with the mission editor that why would you want to play the same mundane CTF map when there is much more that can be done?

Must every vehicle explode and burn?

Mecha Stalin. I think. Made a post in Torni's M60 thread or the ACE thread about an armour damage system he discovered 'hidden' within ArmA. There was a video demonstration.

    Russian Federation Units V.1

The problem is solved, it's everybody's fault, it was good to learn and in the end it made us all stronger as a team Expect some fantastic stuff from NSX very soon  That's great then, ignore my last comment. Can you say what types of tanks you will be eventually releasing? I know you guys mentioned the T-64 and the T-80. Any more?

    Russian Federation Units V.1

That's the nightmare I'm trying to find out now  The WGL mod for ofp had non-reloadable AT weapons. WGL are now the ACE mod. You could PM them and ask how they did it or get permission to use their scripts. @NSX - Probably should not even say anything but your attitude in the last couple pages was bad. All you needed to do was point out your fact nicely. Instead you got all worked up over a tiny little problem. Wise up. Love the addons so far. Can't wait for the armour, RHS are my favourite addons for OFP. Especially the armour.

OFP engine limitation. A vehicle has to be either all wheeled or tracked it can't be both. As far as I can remember no work around exists.

    The Cause Campaign

Im going to echo most of the comments made in this thread about the campaign. This is what I was expecting from the stock ArmA campaign - story, background etc. mixed in with some good action. The last mission was the best, a tough slog through urban terrain mixed in with the rainy weather - bloody brilliant. The background you gave to N.Sahrani with the many different nationalities involved and the various other characters breathed some life into the history of the island. Voice acting was very good and further enhanced the experience of the campaign. This campaign combined with Chammy's sound mod has finally got me into Armed Assault. Cheers.

    Helicopter Flight Model

Have you played Operation Flashpoint? Do you not notice the huge difference in the helicopter flight models between ArmA and OFP? Just curious. What are you saying? OFP's flight model was realistic? You thinks OpFlash's is better?

    Airshows

Alway's wanted to go there, just too far away. Closest airshow to me is RAF Leuchar's near Dundee, pity it isn't on this year. I have a few photo's from RAF Leuchar's 2005, I may put some of them up in the photography thread but they are not great quality. However there is one good photo that I took by accident of a Harrier hovering over the Union Jack.
