    Graphics Settings

Thanks for the info Sanctuary, will try it out ASAP. I just had a look on Avon's OFP FAQ on ofpec.com and after a search found a link to a page explaining what each setting did in OFP's preferences. However I could not access the page on Avon's FAQ. Anyone got a working link?

    ArmA 2 on Xbox 360

The last 'crap' i bought was Bioshock. A true mindless arcade shooter. The 'utter crap' before that was RS:Vegas ... how they dare to invent the fluid 3rd person 'cover' system. Those devs came directly from hell i would argue. Ppl should be banned for live if they play that game. Fun? Games are not intended for that. Games are work, you have to work very hard. You need a pc, a mouse, a keyboard, a desk, a lot of time AND money. Know your hardware, software, patches, buglists, tweaks. Know all current military tactics, know all zillion keyboard commands, know how to script your own missions (by spending countless hours in the wiki's of all kinds), better still, you have to become a 'modder', the highest rank in gaming you can achieve. You can spend years with just one game. It is hard work i tell you ... but it is worth it. You have this feeling you really achieved something. Fun? What are you talking about. I'm pretty sure he meant that ArmA 2 would be welcomed on a console due to the fact that most shooters that come out are usually the same. There really is no need for your attitude.

While this topic is up I may as well ask what settings would you change to improve performance? Or will I always be plagued by 17 FPS and lower?

Wind Turbines For or against & why?

If you are from Britain you will realise this is not what happens, well you probably wouldn't know given that the public has bugger all interest in defence spending. Britains defence budget is used primarily to keep the useless BAE in business. In the past 30 years there have been numerous disaster buys. For example, Anti-submarine Merlins, the Euro Fighter, the Tornado, the A400, L85's etc. Our forces are also hampered by conflicts between the different services and traditional conservative thinking. For example the Royal Navy buying batlleships instead of buying troop transports to enable the British Army to project it's power across the globe. Our defence budget is actually adequate to buy decent equipment. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper to simply buy American rather than spend ridiculous amounts of money on BAE and god awful European collaborative projects. Not to mention that the Amercian equipment is generally better. All of these points are from a book called 'Lions, Donkeys and Dinosuars: Waste and Blundering in the military' by Lewis Page. I suggest you buy if you give a damn about the Forces. These points are also appilcable to most nations forces. So all in all Britain could save a lot of dosh to help pay for green energy projects and give our troops decent pay and equipment. Well I know it was completely off-topic. If you want to continue this Baff1 then PM me.

mmm... no... 'we' don't want independence... as always, the minority claims to be speaking for the majority. Regionalism and communautarism are a stupid trend... mmmm. Â Yes, "we" do. Too many in living memory have fought and died for it. The reason we haven't been given a referendum, is not because everyone will vote for federalism. It is because everyone will vote for independance. The U.K. majority is in favour of independance. (Much to our governments chagrin). "You" may not want it, but we as a nation do. Why would anyone prefer dependance anyway? Regionalism is the only way democracy works well. The flaw of democracy is it's dispossesion of minorities. The larger the democracy the larger the minorities. The greater the number of politically dispossesed. We don't want greater centralisation. Ask former eastern block members what they think of centralised government. What are you on about? D@nte is talking about an area in France not the UK.

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

I do it for the sports, the teamwork (well sort of) and the fun. Pain is just a crucial motivational factor for me - and it works. Never wore any camo clothes yet either, the tourist style (3/4 pants and ArmA tshirt) scares teh enemy nonetheless .. especially when youre the least 'protected' guy on the whole field I don't think you understand what I said. I mean people who think they are tough for playing the game. That's like a guy who thinks he's a military expert for playing a few video games while proper military experts spend years studying.

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

Despite your own belief, what YOU think is NOT a FACT. Some people prefer paintball some prefer airsoft. The competition between paintball and airsoft is pathetic. After all they are both toy gun games. I bloody laugh at any airsofter or paintball player for thinking he's hard for playing a wee pretend war. While you guys think your hard for getting a few bruises or a knocked out tooth REAL soldiers are getting killed or seriously injured by REAL bullets. Why would anybody want to join the army? Shit pay, not a great rifle, mediocre equipment, unappreciated and chances are you will get injured or die. AGAIN! People prefer what they prefer! Â I question why Ireland deserves it's own paintball thread. How is it different from French or Albanian paintball? What is it with this airsoft - paintball divide? Apart from being pathetic you said in another thread you didn't like things that divide people. Hypocrite ahoy! Â

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

If you think your tough by getting shot by flying paint or plastic (airsoft) you all need a good shoeing from the armed services of every nation. Honest to god there is not really a big difference between them. Like Placebo said the games are both about people shooting people with toy guns.

Brilliant stuff TB. Thanks for the selection of Marine vehicles. Did you get VTOL for the harrier working? No worries if it doesn't I think everyone will be more than happy with all the new content and fixes you will include.

Are you trying to start an argument here? It seems in almost every post of yours you have been taking the piss of airsoft. It may be in jest but I can't tell because your spelling is so horrible. (Yes I know it may not be your first language) To keep this on topic. I have played both airsoft and paintball they are both nice to do from time to time but I prefer airsoft. (cos it's cheaper where I'm at) Â

If anyone has a laptop as their primary game rig then I discovered this little gem here: http://www.trustedreviews.com/noteboo....p13 This is the main site: http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=5369 This is a very tasty solution for me. It can turn your laptop into a decent bit of kit provided you have a good processor and substantial RAM. On my laptop I have a Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive and Vista Premium. I'm sure my laptop could benefit from this however would my processor be a bottleneck if I were to get one of these things? Moreover do you think we will see a DX10 card in one of these? And what about graphics drivers? How would this work?

    New Bloc-Geopolitics

Here we go again back to square one. Honestly mate I don't really get the bold words as it is YOU that cannot read. I have already explained it TWICE. You can read why POLAND would WANT those missile sites in their country. I'm not repeating myself AGAIN, unlike you I'm not going to be a broken record. Fair enough. I'll back down from this after having read more on the case. Strike more fear into people who have betrayed them? Show their might? Prove that they are still capable of being a proper world power? etc. Just because Berezjovsky said that didn't mean he did it. I really doubt the death of an outspoken agent will cause unrest in the whole of Russia. A coup isn't an easy thing to do you know. You really need some proper backing from the Russian military. Ahhh the good old reliable AK. What has it to do with Communism? It was fielded by Communist armies, issued to Leftist rebels. It has the ethos of communism in it. Mass produced, cheap and extremely reliable. Moreover it is often called the 'people's rifle'. Definitely sounds leftist to me. What you forget about the AK is that pretty much anybody can operate it with very little training. The AK can be as dirty as hell and be made out of various parts from different countries such as China, Ukraine etc. That is why it is so popular. Moreover gunpowder and swords/knifes were invented a long time ago when Monarchs ruled, before the modern democracies existed. And your wrong again old chap. The AK has killed more people than any other rifle in the 20th century? Want to know why? It is used by many people and countries because it is easy to use and extremely reliable. So it seems your logic is wrong and my argument did not turn against me. Well after much thought on your last point and to previous books/lessons I have learned/read is that killing for power, exploitation etc. is done by people of all ideologies. It's human beings that do these things not one particular political ideology. This argument is going round in circles. Why don't I just forget what you post and you forget what I post and we just agree to disagree! Well you will probaly respond with some ad hoc counter arguments to get the last word in but I am done with this. Otherwise we will just be going round in circles wasting each others time.

    New Bloc-Geopolitics

I suggest you read what I posted very carefully as you seem to have trouble understanding. The Polish government requested those missile sites as a deterrent to Russia. This is because Russia runs a pipeline to Germany that goes past Poland and not through Poland. This is what The Sunday Times magazine reported. You also seem to be contradicting yourself. At first you say that the US has placed those missiles there to 'target' Russia. Now you are saying it is to counter missile's fired from a terrorist state. Make up your mind. Corrupt himself? In what way? I doubt it would be worse than those Russian officials and it hardly warrants his murder. Starnge perception of reality you have. It sounds like you are saying he deserved to die. Sounds fascist. Moreover as I said before a radioactive substance was taken to Britain from Russia. Do you realise how serious that incident alone is? Russian - Chinese relations may be better than they were before but China's growing power is a threat to Russia. I'm surprised the 'alliance' is called the 'Shanghai Group' as this seems to give the idea that China is in control of it, I can't beleive Russia went for that. But they're definitely not holding hands old bean. Communist dictators are responsible for millions of deaths and all you have to say is that's bad? The communist invented Kalashnikov rifle has killed more people than any other gun in the 20th century and in the 21st I imagine it's still top of the table. Then you say capitalism is worse. How old are you? 7? Stop playing the blame game. Your last statement is crazy. I don't know if I'm to laugh or to be shocked.

    New Bloc-Geopolitics

You are wrong about Poland, the anti-missile site was requested by those twins running the country as a counter messure against Russia. It was reported in the Sunday Times. (Not specifically about the missiles but about the Polish twins in power. They feel threatened by Russia and annoyed that a gas(?) pipeline goes past their country to Germany. They see it as the treaty made by Germany and Russia in the late 30's before their country was carved up.) I doubt that Russia could be a target as it is an anti-missile site. They probably don't want their sites in Russia as Putin would be seen as the one in control. What you forget is that it's all about image nowadays. Who is seen as being powerful, the one in control. How is it impossoible to say who's guilty? There was a trail of radioactive materiel leading back to Russia. The Police are pretty certain who guy was who did it. London has some of the best detectives in the world. What do you mean by might as well? Does his death mean nothing to you? He stood up against corrupt officials and he was a British citizen for fuck sake. Radioactive materiel was taken into the UK from Russia and the poor guy died a painful death. Sure, the 'west' have committed some terrible crimes. But need I mention Stalin? What about the numerous puppet governments installed by them in the various countries they 'liberated'? Communism - for the people: what a load of bullshit. Same goes for Democracy, all the parties are basically the same because they are all chasing after the most popular political stances of the voters. There is little to no real choice. Anyway, I doubt the SCO will be anything big or powerful. I just can't see Russia and China being the best of pals. I'm sure Russia would love to see China's growing power dwindle. As would China celebrate at seeing Russia's influence disappear.

    New Bloc-Geopolitics

According to the Sunday Times the anti-missile defences that are to be installed in Poland were by the request of the Polish government (by the request of those strange twins running the country). However I'm not sure about the one in the Czech Republic. In my opinion I think that the US wants to extend it's influence and Russia's objection to the anti-missile defences is to make sure it's influence counts. However Putin didn't do himself any favours by threatening to target Western Europe with Nuclear missiles. You seem to assume that all of the West is evil. But of course Russia would never do anything bad. For example, send a man to London to poison an ex KGB agent with radioactive materiel that left a trail back to Russia. Â Relations are not great with Russia at this moment but to say there is a new Cold War is going too far.

    FFUR-SLX 2007 2.0

The Stryker is currently being done up by another addon maker (can't remember their name) to fix the bugs such as RPG's passing through etc. Once it's fixed up it would be a brilliant addition but in it's current state, no. There was an earlier version of FFUR, the one that had the RHS Hind included in it before their main pack was released, that FFUR pack had the Chinook replaced by AfrographX's RAF Chinook model. Those civillians have llauma's head so they could be a pain to remove and stick BIS heads back on them. However this civillian pack may be a better option.Civvy Packs

Oh well, the pack is pretty nice but I miss the nifty AI scripts etc. At least I can use it with FFUR. -edit- Would the missions from the previous version work? Any info on what v4.0 will include? Will it still be an 'army pack' or will they re-introduce the scripts?

    FFUR-SLX 2007 2.0

It would be nice if you could add roadkill's Nogovan Light Infantry Addons into the MOD. Although they do use llauma's head so this may take a while to remove. Moreover the vehicle pack for them is made from BIS T55, UAZ etc. and would not fit with the better quality vehicles in FFUR-SLX. Then again you could whack the Nogovan Light Infantry roundels on to some of the RHS tanks. Well done. The mod is of excellent quality, very challenging and refreshing. I just got into ArmA as well and this mod has pulled me out of it. The various addons fit well so kudos to the addon makers who let you include these into the mod.

    PLA/VME 3.0 RELEASED

I just downloaded this off of ofp.info. Compared to the previous version there are no missions, no campaign and no config etc. Is this supposed to be a patch to the previous version or a standalone pack?

    GRAA Modpack 3.0

Sounds great Sanctuary, I've always wanted to have large scale battles in OFP but every other addon has brought huge lag so I had to restrict myself to small engagements. Plus with the different units represented I can have some diversity as well. Will this new GRAA mod have the same features that the previous ones had? Anims, different config options etc?

PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

Hey lads. ArmA does not run too great on this old comp. of mine. Last year I upgraded it to 1GB RAM from 256MB and to a Nvidia 7600 512MB graphics card from a Radeon 9200. So I could run ArmA. I have done a little tweaking on the comp with msconfig and hard drive defrag. So I was thinking about upgrading my processor. Currently it is a Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz one. What kind of a performance boost would I expect to get if I get it upgraded? Any suggestions to which I should upgrade to? I'm just looking for a small upgrade, since my processor is rather old and my system is AGP I'm guessing it would not be a lot to upgrade to?
