That and the strange fixes.

Never expected it so fast! Looking forward to testing it out. Interesting.

With regards to Allied aircraft engaging Soviet aircraft you have to account for aircraft recognition training on both sides. Were Allied and Soviet pilots trained to recognise each others aircraft? Maybe but I would be a bit sceptical about that. Moreover German aircraft were still flying in 1945 so the could have mistaken to be enemy aircraft. Allied and Soviet troops did engage each other. It is mentioned in one of the books I have. An American officer suspected that they were fighting Russians so he went and got a flag, climbed to the top of a building and waved it. The firing stopped. I can post it up here if you want? This would be expected. The end of the war is close thus there are still German troops moving around the area so Allied and Soviet troops are still weary. Furthermore I doubt that both sides were trained to recognise each other and their equipment.

That was the only part of his excellent post I was unable to completely agree with. The RAF is not good at close air support. Assuming this is in response to Scary's post I am more inclined to side with his opinion given what he does for a living. Unless you are in the same position? The USAF does have a lot of aircraft in Iraq and Afghanistan so I am guessing that is why a lot of CAS is done by them for UK soldiers on the ground. It's not like they have a choice. -'HQ we would like some CAS please.' -'Rodger dodger just let me get the menu for today. Tally ho, today we have USAF F-16's or RAF Tornado's.' - I like the USAF. We will have that please.' -'One F-16 coming up!' Moreover it is not just USAF aircraft out there anyway. The 'Ross Kemp in Afghanistan' Documentary showed that they were getting support from Dutch aircraft as well. Furthermore the same Documentary seemed to indicate that the soldiers were getting a lot of CAS from F-16's which is a fighter if I am not mistaken. So I would say it has more to do with the fact that the USAF have a hell of a lot more planes.

That area has always been there for me. I've also noticed it quite a few times near Masbete. Ah right. It was the first time I have ever noticed that. Don't usually use the North Sahrani area a lot.

No it's not the iron they used, it was other factors. Typical tankfighting was done in distances where allkinds medium and long 75mm or greater cannons had good change to destory opponent (well not Josif Stalin 2) and first shot usually was a hit. Skill of crew and situational awareness had vital importance: Stugs commonly were participating in counterattacks and they had supprise in their side and they had idea of enemy's location. I quess that usually was enough to give finnish crew a upperhand and first shot. And besides Stug overall wasn't very important tools during -44 in Finland, infact it was least imporant AT-weapon. In antitankrole artillery (both AT and indirect), airstrikes and infantry AT-weapons caused more destoryed tanks than Stugs. Excuse my ignorance but how did the Finnish manage to give a 'superior' force not only a bloody nose but two black eyes and a broken arm? Also if anyone is interested I just found clips on YouTube from a documnetary about the World's best rifles. World's Top 10 Rifles

Just to elaborate, the 'stretching textures' problem only happens with ground and sea textures. Before 1.09 it also happened with the red and white barriers that are in towns. But just ground textures now. Also while playing a coop last night I noticed that a section of the ground looked like it was elevated slightly above the adjacent section. The texure joining the two was also stretched a bit. This was around Everon area of North Sahrani.

And whats your Graphics card or driver got to do with the 1.11 patch? When clearly this is to do with your computer. Maybe you need a computer hardware forum It only happens with ArmA. Doesn't matter if I update drivers or whatever. Every other game works fine. Thus it is quite obvious that it has something to do with ArmA. How mature you are for taking a dig at me because of my response to your completely offtopic yet another CTF rant.

I don't know. But the book I got that information from got input from a lot of US Military Personnel which included a former USMC Sgt. Up to you which you want to go with I suppose. Personally I wouldn't trust wikipedia as far as you could throw it. Hopefully a Marine can verify. Oh and instead of posting lots of replies in a row use the edit button.

Here is some info from 'A Civillians Guide to the US Military' which I picked up in the USA. A Squad can be commanded by a Cpl. or a Sgt. A Platoon (and weapons platoon) is commanded by a Lt. A Company is commanded by a Cpt. A Battalion is commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel. A Colonel commands a Regiment. A Brigade is commanded by a Brigadier General. A Divison is commanded by a Major General. It has more info if you want it.

Looks nice. Seems like Hyk's units are going to have their work cut out. What mod were you using or is that something you have built yourself?
-
Yes but their website is still up. Link

Yes this was explained bottom of last page by Shadow NX. It would have been a good idea to read all posts before commenting.

I had the exact same issue. You need to open up a port in your firewall and then everything should work.

Ofp campaigns/single mission download links
-Snafu- replied to Supernova's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Ah yes well, when it comes to missions there is only one good resource and that is www.ofpec.com It might not have the Russkie Peacekeeper campaign (Retaliation I assume) but the site where I used to volunteer at does. *sigh* It's a pity OFPFiles has gone to waste. It has potential to be a great resource. -
I'm pretty sure they mean issues specific to the patch. That would be like me blaming the toaster if there were a lack of bread in the house. Please stop hijacking threads to do your trademark lack-of-CTF-server rants. Yes we get it already. Anyhoo, back on topic. I don't know if this is an ArmA issue or a hardware issue but since the 505 release of ArmA I am still getting a texture that stretches across the screen. It also follows movement and if I turn around a bit it will stop. However going back to the same position it appears again. Edit: 1.09 Beta did tone down the problem a bit as the problem would not show up so frequently as before. It's not really too big an issue as ALT - Tabbing solves the problem. System: Nvidia 7600GS 512MB AGP 1GB RAM Windows XP SP2 Intel P4 2.66Ghz I have also noticed that when I give a command to the AI to move to a certain position, some of the radio sounds are not played. With regards to performance 1.09 seemed to do better for me. Sometime it seems that the ArmA 'world' takes a little longer to load. This might be due to the new system you have introduced (the recent post in the Dev blog) and could show that it might need a little fine tuning.

Add On Compilation for more Realism and Immersion
-Snafu- replied to the.d's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
As much as I like the USMC addon it causes lag (for me anyway) when used in large numbers whereas the 1st ID addon does not have this problem (for me anyway). FFN is also quite laggy when a number of units are running about. -
Really? The only time I ever used the knife in SLX was to slash the wounded enemy writhing on the ground for help.

If you suspect that someone has taken a model unlawfully then report the post to the moderators. Simple. This is a WIP thread for addons. How about getting back on topic?

Add On Compilation for more Realism and Immersion
-Snafu- replied to the.d's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I did the mission again and recorded it but YouTube didn't like it 'cos it was too long. Anyway, for OPFOR Replacements did you consider frozzzen's infantry? They just feel right. RHS stuff as a replacement for North Sahrani's forces are a bit advanced whereas frozzen's stuff gives the feel of a large but poor communist army. Frozzzen's Olive Drab Infantry Frozzzen's KLMK Infantry CSL already made a replacement pack for them here. -

Add On Compilation for more Realism and Immersion

Right, I just gave all your suggestions a try with a mission by Cheetah where your forces occupy 3 hills and have to hold out until reinforcements arrive. Before your profile difficulty adjustments and addon suggestions the surrounded BLUFOR were slotted within 2 minutes. However, after using all your suggesstions with the profile and addons I was actually able to complete the mission. The skill of the AI was just right and it allowed the mission to be played out fairly well. Only one of the hills was taken but the other two got a beating. All seemed lost when OPFOR BMP's arrived on the scene. One friendly was able to take a BMP out but with the cost of a blue on blue. As I grabbed an M136 off of my dead squad member two Abrams tanks arrived on the scene and saved the day. All in all your list seems pretty spot on with regards to AI difficulty. This thread definitely deserves a sticky. -
Works perfectly now. Thanks.
