I hope an old non-ACE version is kept up for those that do not use ACE. -
Time for Bis to allow language change to English - agree?
-Snafu- replied to Richey79's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
What can I say? I am a big fan of OFP, ArmA and Arma 2. When the German version of Arma 2 was released I wanted it immediately, I had finished a lot of work stuff and wanted to treat myself. There was no English version available at the time so that wasn't an option, when you tend to like something a lot you are willing to go the extra mile. I don't want nor need to be told how to spend my money by somebody I don't even know. In addition, the fact that many people do not like it in their native language speaks volumes. If they wanted it in English, like some Germans for example, they would have had to either download it (no hard copy) or buy it from another country which means an increase in delivery cost. Nothing wrong with wanting an option to switch languages, like what happened with ArmA and is the case for most other games. We are not asking for a free expansion here. -
Bottom line is that you do need a good connection, hence why MW2 is a lag fest most of the time. Saying otherwise flies in the face of all the complaints. Most people do not have a good internet connection and it will be a long time before people do. In addition to that most areas do not have access to new high speed internet as the infrastructure does not exist. I live next to an important city and the internet services advertised by companies aren't even available to me, and it's almost 2010. I have to settle for these crap packages that cost a lot more and are a lot slower.

Partly true but the comparison stops there as the support trucks provide a valuable role in the game - by supplying, repairing, healing and transporting the virtual forces. Now, before others get their knickers in a twist I am not saying women do not provide a valuable role (the clue is the "in-game" part). Including a female model will only add a little to the game whereas the support vehicles add a lot. Thus, is it worth BIS using (probably) stretched resources on something rather small that will bring no major benefit to them? No. Anybody who thinks this is sexist needs a reality check.

Download the latest patch (1.17 beta so far), run as administrator and run in window mode with -window in your shortcut. You will get this with games that were designed with XP 32 bit.

I'll be getting another copy (hard copy this time), I would just like to use the Arma 2 I have now as I have been kicked from some servers because of the language mod. I also like not having to use the disc (I realise you can do that with the beta patches but I don't use them). I hope not! IIRC BIS did the same for the German version of ArmA 1 by unlocking the language selection. Plus, with the beta patches copy protection has been removed (am I right?) so I don't see why language selection should be a problem. -
I got my RO in HMV for a fiver IIRC, if you want a hard copy.

The future where everyone has excellent internet to play 'simple' FPS games like they are on a dedicated server is, well, in the future. Probably quite far in the future.

No, but to be able to change the language from German to English in the options of vanilla Arma 2 for us fans that couldn't wait and others who do not like the translations. -

If anybody releases a patch for this I love you long time. -
Recent research suggests otherwise. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4641567.stm I don't buy this either. There was no significance in the findings to claim a gender difference in verbal and spatial tasks or carrying out simultaneous tasks. http://clearinghouse.missouriwestern.edu/manuscripts/520.php I also think this is stereotypical rubbish. A brief look at history will show this to be incorrect. For example, the invasion of occupied France on June 6th 1944 was a complex operation that required extensive planning and thinking. No, they are not correct. Then again I prefer judging the abilities of the individual rather than by their gender or nationality and so on and so forth. Mostly in the combat support role rather than combat arms I believe. Some women can. Some can be viscous. Not all. All this really has nothing to do with the topic though does it? Women in Arma 2 would increase the realism by being to represent some military jobs better. It will not add a whole lot to the game but there is no real reason not to I suppose. It's not a deal breaker for me and I am not really bothered if they include women soldiers or not.

Saying women make better soldiers, better at everything etc. is over compensation to the extreme.
-
I am no expert but the attention to detail is second to none. I'm still playing ArmA, not that that's much consolation, but the work is appreciated.

Brilliant , thanks again! I might have to think about starting an OFP site to archive these to.

These are the missing updates. Thanks, I owe you. I've also started to backup addons and mods to DVD. Also, does anyone happen to have any of these Falklands missions floating about? http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=59013&highlight=falklands http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=55849&highlight=falklands

Does anyone have the small updates that were released to fix bugs in the Falklands 1.0 release? I don't know if these were included in the 1.1 update released later. Scroll down to where it says updates: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=55758&highlight=Falklands

That was my first thought when I saw some videos of the campaign. Anyone remember the scene from GK about the Charm sweets and how they shouldn't be brought into a HMMWV? Well guess what... http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk299/dianathehutt/MW2/ScreenHunter_16Nov151210.jpg

Wow, that does sound stupid.

Does anyone have the readme for Hyk's US soldier pack v205? I am also looking for the Unified Animation Pack by Sgt. Milkman. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=34204&highlight=static+anims Cheers.

Could someone please upload this again?

Here is a small mission for Sanctuary's cracking WW4 mod. It's like BIs Steal The Car mission but harder with more features thanks to the excellent script authors. The mission takes place after Steal the Ural and it involves stealing another vehicle but you have to tab across a big area to reach it. I have used DAC so the area you will be moving across will be crawling with enemy troops and vehicles. You can either fight your way through, sneak all the way or more likely, a bit of both.
