Graphical glitches - Geforce GTX 460
sexor replied to calicheSCOT's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
After searching for a way of disabling these "white pixels", it seems this annoying effect actually has a name: specular aliasing. It occurs also in other games like NFS and Call of Duty, http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/1907434.page Also a quote from Hardocp.com : "In Need For Speed Shift, AA is not a make-or-break feature. We are glad that AA works, and we are glad that we can configure it from within the game. But the biggest problem with IQ in NFS Shift is not edge aliasing, it is specular aliasing. Specular aliasing is a jagged edge that is produced by a lighting reflection. Often, specular aliasing can appear in the form of sparkly white dots on a highly detailed reflective surface. http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTI1NzcxMDM2MTdkTmMyTlc1U09fOF8xOF9sLnBuZw== On the grille of the car in the above picture, there are some white dots and some jagged white lines where the chrome is reflecting light. This effect appears throughout NFS Shift. The only way around it, in fact is to use AMD’s super-sampling AA, which drastically reduces performance as well as texture clarity, or to use the narrow-tent or wide-tent custom AA filters in AMD’s Catalyst Control Center, which also reduces texture clarity.Unfortunately, there is not yet a very good solution for specular aliasing." So I was wondering, is there anyway to disable specular aliasing, since I tried about everything, including disabling AA, in the drivers and in-game, althought the problem still occurs and makes the game a lot less realistic=enjoyable. Arma 2 looked much better on my old previous card, Geforce 9800GTX. My other question is if people have the same issues with ATI cards? Thanks a lot. -
Just wanted to thank you for this mission. It gives Arma 2 infinite replay value since I have no internet fast enough for multiplayer where I live. So many thanks for making Arma 2 even more addictive.

My apologies for the delay. I tried installing older drivers, the 195.62 and 186.18, but both refused to install. I received the message that there was no compatible hardware found so the installation of the drivers automatically halted. I presume there was no support yet for the 460 card in those drivers. Only thing left for me is to downgrade the card too, back to a 9800gtx... doesn't seem very economical to me so I guess I ll try to live with the artifacts caused by the nvidia drivers. -

I also have graphical issues, white flickering textures where they are partially transparent like a fence or a window in the game. Also the borders around objects like trees are white lines. This is very visible when there is for example smoke behind the tree. All this occured after upgrading the drivers and hardware(from a 9800gtx to a 460gtx). In my case it seems driver related since I have the exact same problem in Test Drive Unlimited, white lines occur over the outer edges of objects. So kind of a relieve it is not Arma2 related. I am going to try the older drivers 195.62 and will post my experiences here unless I get kidnapped by a goblin tonight.
