Walker Where are you getting this one farm stuff from? Skira Island is 110 square miles with many different features including farms, villages, monasteries and a town. There's also a dormant volcano. When you go on about civilians and wildlife you need to get it into your head the game isnt like ARMA in story, its not about some civil war somewhere, its a WW2 pacific island style battle, like Iwo Jima or Okinawa (on a smaller scale), civilians and wildlife played no roles in those battles, hence its irrelivant to the scenario, get it. You're comparing apples to oranges.

You know this sarcasm is becoming tiresome now, its not clever sorry. :icon_rolleyes: Plus you’re totally wrong on much of what you say, if you actually read the plot you would know that. If you have a problem with OFP: DR fine but don’t post unless you’re going to contribute something, even if it’s a harsh opinion I don’t mind, just something decent.

Opps, sorry didnt notice that post just above mine. :D

Its true about the internet being full of rubbish and i didnt believe it myself, and i told the guy so he named names and talked about things only a former staff member could. I mean from where they work to what cars the staff drives to what the staff did before joining CM to the staff that were fired, and what I could check out was all true. Most worryingly is the fact i decided to get in contact with one of the named people, and they confirmed everything said was true. "Personally I'd only take issue with about three sentences in all of that. The bits that probably sound most unbeleibeable to you are some of the most true." (sent on a iPhone before someone points out the spelling) And i checked them out on Linkedin, and got in contact by googling their name so this person is very real. The original guy could have named himself, knowing I would contact him, but he’s got so much to loose so I cant see it, so I would say there is staff/former staff out there happy to talk about CM and OFP: DR. What that means im not really sure, it could be lies but the lengths they're going to seem a little extreme, and of course the fact that theres so much of this talk about from different sources. I just hope its nothing, or if there were problems they’re sorted.

I thought ARMAII isnt going to be on the PS3, its 360 only right?

It looks petty small, but if that means detail i dont mind.

The Heroes thing started as a small group of people in IRC and community members who would help out with finding media etc. Now its a big group with loads of people, most of them i dont know. But no its not the pretend moderators, but non kiddies who don’t spam the same topic over and over again or demand things from CM with “we want the gameplay videos NOW!1!1!†topics. It generally tries to encourage decent forum behavior and decent community but some members can be over zealous. I got so fed up with the worst offender LCPL Hoot I decided to check him out on google, the guy isn’t even a Marine but a kid who was claiming to be leaving school in 2006 and joining he Marines, then posting at CodeMasters in 2008 as a veteran with 4 years of experience and 2 tours of Iraq, or was it 8 years in some posts. But about that richardandrews talk, its not the first time I have heard it, in fact I received a tone of dirt about CodeMasters from someone claiming to be a former dev, the guy even named names thay i had a look at, all real former staff. I got in contact with the community manager about it and was “reassured†everything was fine but theres certainly something going on. Either theres a group of former staff really out to get CodeMasters or there’s some truth in what is being said, that or a very determined individual or group looking to spread lies. Of course i wouldn’t post it, there would be carnage with some members and i want CM to have a good go at OFP DR, plus like i said it could be nothing more than lies.

A brand new video that shows what looks to be the 360 version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcgQTDJP1s8 Xbox360 bottons plus the view distance looks shorter then we have seen so far. Damn Mafia101. :p

Whah, thats a lot of response. :p For starters Scrub: There are a lot of limits to the engine, BIS have admitted this themselves. As of now there is no other engine out there that comes near to the OFP/ARMA engine, but that not to say it isn’t showing its age. ARMA2 still wont have micro details like streams, rivers, ditchs, trenches etc. In one of the latest ARMA2 videos I saw a V-22 landing then slowly rotating on the ground due to the dodgy physics just like in OFP. Listen to the radio interviews with BIS if you haven’t yet, it’s a good insight to what BIS can/cant/will/wont do. The AI still cant compete with other games out there in many aspects, yes it can carry out a mission unscripted but still doesn’t know how to use cover properly. I44_John: I understand what you’re saying but many sequels have dropped features that were in the original, sometimes it just suits the new direction. Red faction 2 will have one of the most advanced destruction system of all time, but unlike the first (which came out years ago) it wont include landscape destruction. Does that mean it will never live up to the first, of what I have seen I would say no it doesn’t, looks great to me. Im not saying no civs is a good thing whether it makes sense to not, but its not a big deal, even if there were there their role would be tiny. If they couldn’t get off the island than they’d just go behind the lines and stay there, after hiding out in the forest for a while. What needs to be understood is the Island is essentially wilderness, like something out of Siberia, a tiny native populace with no relevance to the story. Its not like ARMA2, lot of guerrillas wondering the lovely countryside, its a superpower v superpower battle out of WW2 pacific. How much of a role did civs have in those battles, not much as Baff pointed out, or wildlife, I don’t think there was much about after Marines started pouring up the beach. Same with AI planes, am i a glad? Don’t think so, but I don’t really mind. And Walker: Walker they still may be constantly improving but there still wont be an FLIR, according to BIS all tanks will have the same optics (might be wrong on that one), we still cant walk on moving objects (although it works with VBS we wont get it), hasn’t firing out of vehicles been cut, hopefully not. Still no armor penetration which is a huge factor of modern warfare. No matter how long BIS have been improving were still waiting for these basic things. And I know modders have done amazing things, but why must we always rely on them for what I would consider basics. But this is an area that ARMA2 should expect to beat OFP: DR. But I couldn’t agree more with all of you about the editor, terrible decision. The heart and soul of OFP, more important that MP with for me. :( About the name and Codemasters developing, theres a lot a politics there and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but really judgment on the game should be withheld until its released. We’ll see how it compares when its out, but until then its not really fair to judge. It could turn out to be a terrible game and ruin the OFP name, but it could turn out to be a good game but not worthy to the name, but it could also turn out to be a good game worthy to the name. But until you have played it its speculation, by all means judge and bash if necessary when its out, but when its out... My point is I will be buying ARMA2, but ill be buying OFP: DR too, Why? Because it should have things ARMA2 doesn’t, like FLIR and proper optics for all the weapons, proper amour penetration, brand new AI and animations, new physics etc but also because its another game milsim that appeals to me and i hope Codemasters do I great job as ill have two games to play. ;)

Well there is actually a small town in the game equal in size to those we have already seen in OFP, so there is urban combat. So there will be urban combat. As pointed out civilians are irrelevant to the story so no big deal, really how much did they matter during the CWC campaign, apart from a few missions there were never even anywhere to be found. No flyable jet i can live with it, the AI can do it well enough. Micro battles i have do idea what you're talking about, i assume this is typical speculation. Micro multiplayer i agree with, far to limited amount of player but there should be a decent amount of AI. Wildlife i really dont care about, was it even in OFP (other than seagulls :p )? Made no difference then to me then so why would i miss it. And no editor on console is terrible, real big deal and really poor call by Codemasters. And the answer to your question, lots of things, like properly simed weapons with real optics and FLIR, tanks with real optics with amour penetration system rather then hitboxes. New AI that isn’t so limited (hopefully), the battlefields that stay from mission to mission as well as many other things. But I don’t understand your comment on capabilities, OFP/ARMA’s engine is very old and limited now, how many features have player been asking for that have not been included one way or another. OFP should include many capabilities that OFP or ARMA2 wont as already pointed out.

The reason for the lack of civvies is the island is sparsely populated and mostly wilderness. Two powers fighting over the resources the island bring, not interested in the population which is to small (and most "have fled" anyway) to have any bearing conflict. Mentioning Iraq and Georgia is a bit silly, its like comparing a battle for New York to a battle for Wyoming, two fundamentally different scenarios. Its the same with ARMA2 and OFP2, two totally different back drops to two totally different scenarios. Civvies play a large role in both OFP and ARMA 2 due to their great relevance to the scenario, unlike OFP: DR where they have no relevance at all.

Prehaps BIS could directly port the editor from Elite, its already done and worked a treat. The only thing that let it down was the inability to synch waypoints, add that (which is easy as the cycle waypoint used it anyway) and it would be perfect.
-
Its all been sorted in PM's now, as pointed out this not about the advantages or disadvantages of consoles. Im not totally sure how console BETAs work as i have never been part of one but i would expect one for ARMAII, im assuming it will come out later and many of the bugs will have been cleared up by then, any tech problems to do with the 360 i think will be fixed up internally But im not sure exactly how its works so…

http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=56;t=75883;hl=ricbar89 With WL=4 so calling me "young" seems a little rich. My response was to strong to doubt, but you never contibute anything to console topics, you only look to derail and troll, and if you try to argue your own history proves it it. Ill PM you if I can get it to work.

It was really, just missing a few abilities like synchronize waypoints which make the whole get in/unload a pain.

Few questions relating Arma 2 being on consoles

This video should help to answer a lot of your questions: From 5mins + -
As a Elite player i fully expect ARMAII on the consoles to have a editor, dont let me down BIS.
-
Rocco i was there when you got that latest warning level of yours trolling a console thread with your rubbish. PC and consoles rarely ever share servers. Now unless you have something decent to add the the topic stay out, this is about the console version of ARMAII having a editor.

About the PLA "police men", CM have changed it now. http://community.codemasters.com/forum....ount=51 Good to see they're making the effort to fix mistakes.
