It's actually very violent and graphic with such themes as rape and murdering of babies. And these quotes are only a very few, there are plenty more if you know where to look. Deuternomy has a lot of good "R" rated ones. They don't teach this stuff in Sunday School! "If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found, Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver.... (Deuteronomy 22:28,29) "And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, the king desireth not any dowry, but a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies....wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men, and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law." (Samuel 18:25,27) "When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the Lord thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive, And thou seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and has a desire unto her, that thou wouldst have her to thy wife, Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails....and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife." (Deuteronomy 21:11,13) "Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished." (Isaiah 13:16) "Slay utterly old and young, both maids and little children, and women..." (Ezekiel 9:6) "Thus saith the Lord; For three transgessions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof, because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border." (Amos 1:13)

I understand now. And indeed we are talking of completely different things. I used to believe in communism after doing some research on it (who knew communism was supposed to be a good thing! but eventually I realized that I was assuming eventually everyone would be good and that the system would work and we would all be happy. And then I realized I would be dead. And there's no garuntee it'll happen. So yes, I am looking out for my self-interests for now. Not for 100 years from now. Just my freedom. And I must say this is probably the most intelligent conversation I have ever been in on this forum. It didn't turn into "you're a moron" or "go back to school, idiot". I thank you for discussing this with me in a civilized manner and I think that we have both learned that we value different things. You value civilization in the long run, I value my freedom now.

I also think our Constitution has kept America from an oppressive government.

I don't think he keeps it at his house In Switzerland they keep their guns at home, right? -
I disagree. If I had to choose a religion everyone in the world would be, I'd say Buddist. They seem on the most part to be nice level headed people. But I think it would be better if everyone was open minded. Duke thinks I should be Christian, I think he should be open minded.

I see your point, but I don't think you get the bigger picture. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Civil liberties are a luxury. If your life is threatened, who cares about the right to vote?<span id='postcolor'> Our right to live is a civil liberty. They were constructed during the 18th century with regard to the social situation that was present then. That doesn't mean that they will be forever.<span id='postcolor'> Who cares if it wont be around forever? Your argument is irrelevent. We are living now, and I don't want my civil liberties infringed. Ya sure we can say "eventually the whole world will be communist" or "eventually we'll all be so englighted that there will be no government at all and we all respect and help each other" But those are hypothetical situations which deal with the far future. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">In a society where all our demands are met, we don't need many of the civil liberties.<span id='postcolor'> Again, this relates to the "Eventually we'll all be englightened and live without government" Right now we need civil liberties to protect ourselves from oppressive government. Bottom line.

Well as I have been here nearly a year and have gotten a general feel for the members personalities and what they think of me, I think I would be some sort of mail room clerk who is always wandering the cubicles talking to people and offering my opinion and adding my remark to other peoples conversations. But no one would really like to hear it and they'd try to hide under their desk when I come down the hall with my cart. Close? -
Who or what my junk mailers think i am
EveronVetsAgainstTheWar replied to Aculaud's topic in OFFTOPIC
I get no junkmail. Well t hats not true. Occasionally I have gotten mail from The College Board or something telling me to sign up for the SATs and I got a few emails from Sony because I registered to see some pictures or something of Star Wars: Galaxies but now I recieve none from either because of unsubscribe. But this also makes me very depressed because now everydady when I open outlook and I have 0 unread messages it makes me realize I have no friends and I am worthless. -
You were all wrong about Franklin's quote, which actually is: "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759 It used to be in my signature a long time ago. And I disagree with Denoir who believes that anyone who still believes in their civil liberties is an idiot. Benjamin Franklin is saying they that can give up essential liberty, like freedom of speech, freedom of your privacy, things like that just so they can get a little temporary security, such as letting the police jail people for saying terrorist like things, or sympathizing with them, do not deserve their saftey because they are horrible Americans who cannot grasp the importance of their right to freedom. Edit: And if I did a survey in my workplace right now I'm certain that nearly everyone would say "No!" if not everyone considering I work at The Cato Institute which is a libertarian think-tank in D.C. There's a link to the website in my sig.

75$ for a game is not worth it.. I haven't payed that well since N64 came out And you wanna talk about a good RTS? Not shogun... not wc3... Command & Conquer: Generals. If anyone has seen "bootleg" gameplay movie for this game.. you will wholeheartedly agree. It just blows you away.

No one can say, "Christianity means: this" because there are so many different sects of Christianty that no one will ever agree what it means. I urge people to be a little more specific when they say "__"

Voter turn outs are at obscenely low levels, yet everyone feels the need to bitch about the government at every chance they get.  I wish they could issue an ID card when you vote, and if you dont have one...you give up your rights to complain when you dont like something the government has done.  Even if you voted for the government..you can at bellyache that they suck and you feel bad for voting for them.  No vote..no rights to bitch. That's my opinion <span id='postcolor'> I completely agree. After all this pledge of allegiance stuff in the U.S., I was talking to my friend about it. During the conversation she managed to tell me that "the constitution was written a long time ago and they didn't know what they were doing" This astounded me. I couldn't believe the words that were coming out of her mouth. There's so many people who are completely uninterested or can't grasp the concept of our government. Since that conversation I have stopped talking to her.

Oh come on people, is it really that vulgar and offensive? I find it hillarious. And convays a good point. Is this horrible offensive and vulgar too? Because frankly I laughed my ass of when I saw it.
