If you have an ATI card, ATI Tray Tools will do this as well so you don't need Fraps running at the same time.

Works here for me if I rename the .exe. Typical increase woudl be from 50-60FPS to 135+. I don't always get the strobing effect but more often than not it is there.

7.6 is very smooth. No problems here so far.

Or heaven forbid get a larger HD, and have both ArmA and OFP. They are dirt cheap nowadays anway. I bought two WD Raptor X 150GB for I think £130-140 each.You can get single lesser specced drivers of similar capacity for £50 or even less now.

I agree about budget issues to a point. But then you see sounds mods come out that are in many cases better than those it ships with and yet they are free. Still, if the devs released a perfect game we'd have nothing to do.

Anyone else wonder why we need to have sound mods at all? If the samples used OOB are somehow weak, where did they source them from? You would think the devs would want us to have the most realistic sounds as possible. I understand that they may not have had access to all the weapons portrayed of course so may not be able to had obtained samples directly.

Unfortuntely that appears to be an Nvidia function. I went with ATI Crossfire. Not sure if there is an ATI comparable command?

Is there a way of displaying the poly count for a given scene? It would be interesting to run comparisons with other engines out there. EDIT: Oh, and I absolutely agree about frame rate. If it affects your aim, the difference between low and high frame rates can literly be a life or death situation. That's why I believe the Dual Core and multi GPU solutions should be addressed at some point, presumably BIS looking into the processor side of things and ATI/Nvidia the video card side.

I wonder what the poly count is on the grass and whether this could be reduced further? Or perhaps do away with polygons completely and go back to the quick and dirty methose used in much older games. It might look poor but it would a nice option to have if your system can't cope but you don't want to remove it completely.

I can second that. I had the hotfix drivers to fix the leak and although I didn't notice stuttering so badly in ArmA it made playing other games like Lord of the Rings Online almost unplayable. Back to the straight 7.5 drivers and everything is back to normal.

The problem is the mission designers aren't there to moan at. The spawn camper is perceived to be getting some kind of free ride to a high score. That in turn is then observed as somehow cheating. Remember other FPS games where people would moan about "wall hacks" etc. When asked to present proof those people would suddenly go silent.

I agree with Aussie on this to a point. I don't agree with base raping at all but have no problem with camping. Look at it this way, if you are repeatedly being killed by someone sitting in one spot pretty much all the time then you are doing something wrong! Which is all the more suprising as I used to play Quake 2 fine on my 2 card Voodoo 2 setup years and years ago. Game designers really should look into this stuff more seriously.

Did you have the same problem where you remove the keys suggested and then after a reboot then are back again?

Just out of interest, have you tried running it Windowed?

Once they start seeing reports of users that have this problem that include enough detail of the target system affected for them to deduce some common denominator that may explain the behaviour, then I'm sure they will.

I'll try the patch tonight when I get home. Interested to see if I get any performance increase as someone are posting here. I think I have ArmAMark laying around so will post comparisons.

This is a very common problem unfortunately. Everyone will give suggestions about the usual things: drivers, defragging etc. You may also get people say that other, graphically superior games will run far better. And while I will agree with them to some extent you also have to realise what the game is trying to achieve. Comparing it to BF2/2142 is unfair for instance. Look at the size of the terrain those games are simulating compared to the huge areas that ArmA tries to do. Yes, I'm sure that things can be improved, as the recent 1.08 patch has done for some people, but don't expect miracles.

I had exactly this problem when I went back to the other game I'm playing at the moment, Lord of the Rings Online, and the performance was atrocious. For no reason at all the game would just stall for a few seconds and then continue at full speed. It didn't matter where I was and didn't coincide with HD access either. Put the normal 7.5 and it works perfectly. Guess I'll be waiting for 7.6

Totally agree with this. Great fun to use when airborne but I tend to find my view drifting away too much from looking down throughh the ironsights. Only way I found to stop this was to toggle the sensitivity and have a large dead spot in the centre. That works pretty well.
