Will ARMA3 feature realistic tank armor?

Ignore them, i bet there are way way more silent readers who would love to know more and only the "haters" taking the word and throw disbelief towards you. On the other hand, the argument is that you are veeeery new here, no one knows you... Hell you could tell us every sh*t you can imagine... :-) But please continue to tell us more what you saw. Did they told specifically that those features will be In ArmA3, or was it just proof of concept? Maybe they do it like often before - the good realistic features first into the Military VBS Series and only the Eye-Candy Stuff into the commercial ArmA Series :-( I hope not... Yes i support that fully. Thats how it is... I know, i just mean no severe bugs like it was with ArmA2 and ArmA1 upon release... that combined, or resulting-in with the avarage (in percentage scale) below 70% ratings, costet the company a whole lot of money

Will ARMA3 feature realistic tank armor?

Booster tell us more and a Dev should please say something. If this is NOT true, then please state it. If it is true and you want to keep the surprise... please say NOTHING ^^ :-) I'd just like to say, that if all that is in the game finally, the please for GODS SAKE make it more or less bug-free (Beta-Testing with community is a greeeeeaaaat idea) before final release. I bet this game will then be another Blockbuster with silver/gold 90%++ Reviews like OFP once was. This will throw a lot of cash towards you. I hope it will be... i really do.

    F-14D Super Tomcat

WOW!!! Waht a true beauty she is. Very very nice work, my props to all involved. Please also carry that model later on to ArmA3 once the Dev Tools are out.

Personally i find the sounds of the heavy machinegun VERY GOOD! To make the immersion experience perfect, is to add a tiny light-source to the tracers. ACE1 did it this way and it was great. They also simulated that on larger calibers (7.xxmm and more), depending on impact angle and distance, the "pyrotechnic charge" could brake off and then lying on the ground burning on its own. This is very likely on bigger calibers (12.xxmm and up) and short distances in RL. Saw numerous Videos where 50BMG attacked houses in Iraq and the "pyrotechnic charge" broke away on short distance impacts. It was a SUPERB combat experience in ArmA1 with ACE1 especially when under fire from tracer ammo. I'll do a ticket for it in the A3 CIS.

Well i'm confident that this will be a good engine evolution for sure. Given the Alpha stage, the engine looks very good overall. However here comes my 5% of criticism...: - While the engine improvements are really looking good, they are still not on par of whats possible today. I kindly asked myself the question, what the engine improvements are worth gameplay-wise, if the most annoying thing - that lights and shadows cast through objects/walls/etc - is NOT fixed in BIS' 4th Engine Evolution. This is somehow a HUGE showstopper for me personally. I really wonder who was that person that made that decision to not implement it into ArmA3 and why. Does this Person really "play" the series like we do? - Night scenes with NV-Overlay didn't convince me of what we saw. Please see my Ticket in the ArmA3 CIT and what the other competitor Sandboxes can offer for Nightvision: https://dev-heaven.net/issues/30719 Why doesn't our "Mercedes under the Sandboxes" have those features, if the average ones, the FIATs and OPELs have em? :-( Am i "driving" the wrong Brand?

Will ARMA3 feature realistic tank armor?

Those improvements in Iron Front are superb! We strongly need this in BIS' 4th Military Simulation finally... I'm sick of Hitpoints and stuff borrowed from dumbed-down corner shooters. Its about time to change this. Seriously.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

Well, that was the Situation in early ArmA2... Hasn't there been any improvement made for ArmA3? I mean, i dunno if i got that right, but lets say with 8 cores, there should be no Problem of dedicating a single core to PhysX and another single core for AI, or even two for AI... Even though they won't scale to a 100% because of given reasons, still it should help with calculating these demanding tasks.

Underwater element. What is the point?

For its simple that its realistic. It adds a whole lot of new opportunities for scenario designers. Sea warfare was previously fully let down in the Arma Series, now its in. Can't be happier ;-) At the end of the day, you don't HAVE to use the new opportunities when playing, creating your missions or whatever... Its just logical that the opportunity to do so was now added.

Yes i always thought that too, but nice to have it confirmed. Done a suggestion ticket about it :-) https://dev-heaven.net/issues/30718

Arma 3 and the real world

Yes of course thats what i meant ;-) Everything gets out of order if the scale is shrinked. I think you misunderstood me if you thought its about the "size" of the map. I really don't care if it is 200km², 300km² or 400km² in size. I'm talking about the scale here. They let the unit sizes as they are and shrink the overall scale of the real-worlds role-model to 80%. The Results are total unnatural feeling. The textures and the overall shape of the island might be looking a 100% like a high-res Satellitte image, and you get your feeling for the real-world scale when standing there. You start imagine that walking from Hill XY to Hill YZ will take you probably lets say 30minutes, because from your real-world feeling and experience it would be. But as soon as your start moving in the game then, you find out that you magically done it in 10minutes. Its disturbing.

Arma 3 and the real world

Well actually it does when the Unit-sizes stay the same they are. This is what i mean, it kills the feeling for the world. Imagine our real world would be shrinked to 80% of its original size but yourself keeps your size? Not good. Thats what i mean with a "distorted scale". And as the Dev said here on the first pages that it won't have the 100% scale because of travel-distances (LOL³!!! This is Arma not COD!!!), it is a bad decision to shrink to overall dimensions to 80% - they should have rather just "altered" the island the way they did on other islands before, but not scale it down, if travel-distances would be a concern...Actually they would only be for a BIS campaign, but not for us mission-makers that later adopt the task, to provide scenarios to the community. Such statements reminds me always of a statement by Marek Spanel himself, before ArmA2 came out, when i suggested for a little bit longer helicopter startup times and he answered that it won't be done, because it could annoy the casual players. Really such decision with the scale annoys me more than any bad AI or the other flaws we have had so far in the series. How should the other issue become fixed/overcome/perfect if the most fundamental thing, is not 100% done - the scale of the game. It is in my opinion a very bad decisions and i hope at least for ArmA4,5,6 they stop doing this eventually. We are playing ArmA here come on' guys, and not some Kindergarten 1st person Ego-Shooter like COD or Whatever. No rant here or anything, just my 2 cents. I would like to know your opinion on that matter. Thanks ;-)

    AI Improvement

Very Funny! :-) Anyway, there are lots of high voted tickets in the CIT for ArmA2 already regarding all those major AI flaws, i really hope they fix them over time. Rather wait with final release until Q1 2013 or even Q2 2013, i don't mind. As long as it gets almost "perfect". And for a good "perfection" feeling, AI must be major major overhauled. :-)
  15. Nice, to what angles does it stay auto-locked? Depends on the shkvals turret, right?
  16. I pretty much like the idea of having a built-in recorder which has a bit more performance than FRAPS and the likes. :-) Something could add later with a patch or so, nothing important to focus on IMHO. Resources are limited ^^

Arma 3 and the real world

Yes i think your right... thats what i mean in the Arma world... It feels totally unnatural to walk around there as the scale seems to be... well... i can't even explain it in my own language. Either the soldiers are way to big in the Arma world and walking to fast, or i don't know. Chernarus felt totally unnatural. The lots of hills and stuff there was even with the normal "walk" animation be able to be climbed in no time. Well i then watched the Satellite image that was posted shortly before ArmA2 went public and when watching some of those hills, i was like "damn"... I know such areas near the place i live pretty well and in no way i would be able to get to the top in like 3-5 minutes at that speed. Rather in like 30minutes. Why is that? And how can BIS make it better?

    PhysX

    I like the idea :-)

    Is Arma 3 authentic?

My Answer: As long as BIS keeps the admitted route, to not do the scale of maps, etc a 100% like in RL, it's simply not authentic. I Personally, who loves large-scale missions, either Online or SP, powered by realism-mods like ACE, find this a HUGE downside and i was shocked that a BIS Developer admitted some time ago that ArmA3 will not be 100% scale like in RL.

    "Take On" Franchise

Excellent! In 2020 we'll playing Arma4 connected with Take on Helicopters, Take on Jets, Take on Tanks and Take on Marine Find this post in 8 years and say that i was right ^^ ;-)

    Foliage cover and drawing distance?

Exactly that! That has to be worked on since its a gameplay issue from day1. A 2013 game should have this fixed. Thanks for your effort BIS.

    Developer's Blog

Excellent Read! Love the Alpha-Beta-Retail Release Plans. Huge step forward... i can smell a almost bug-free retail release then, which will truly skyrocket the sales - a good situation for BIS and for us Veterans. I hope these plans are getting regularly covered by all the larger (online-)Game magazines.
  24. Hi, i'd like to "release" a script i have personally used since the time before ArmA2:OA was released, to detect how good is AI with detecting you. The script based on a very "light" version for checking the "knowsabout" value from an unknown user of this very Forums. So the base credit belongs ONLY to this person. Thank you a 100 times for your ideas and work. I have since then modified/expanded the script to suit my needs. I think its very good for AI-Detection bugtracking that why i release it. Features: Shows how AI detects you, where AI expects your position and how they track you. The possibilities with AI-Cheating Testing are endless. You can also Teleport via Radio, but i would not encourage to do so, because if you cheat its not real-world testing. Guide: Just start the mission via Editor after unpacking it into your profiles/missions Folder. Open fire just ahead so AI gets a bit known about you and then RUN & HIDE to any of the places i've marked on the map, or just pick your own. You can also move the whole squads in editor to any different position or even different map. It's up to you. Results: Since latest Patches, AI only very rarely seems to have magic spotting abilities. It was much much much worse during Arma2 Stock times. However just with yesterdays testing AI seems to can spot/pinpoint me even behind two forest-parts in 600m++ distance and open targeted fire, which you as a player COULD NOT/NEVER because of forest density and its resulting viewblocking. Also Yesterday i opened fire at the beginning and ran 150m south, just below that little hill of the starting position and hide under a tree. What happens was, that AI of Group1 and Group2 surrounded me, even though they assumed my Position at a completely different spot ~200m away. So there seems to be still issues with AI Detection capabilities. Avaliable Q4 2012?

Delay for Q2 2013 ;-) Better is it.. I was with all releases from ArmA1 till ArmA2:OA and all were more or less bugged like hell. I mean it in a good way, since most people in german comments at game-sites said they won't buy it because they have no time to wait years for game-braking bugs to be fixed. So a solid Product at release is crucial this time. The more players (which will most likely, eventually become FANS of the series) we have, the better it is both for BIS and for us players. No Rant or something like that, just my opinion based on history ^^
