It delayed the sequel (Elite was just a remake of OFP for Xbox). Maybe it even prevented the "true" sequel of ever being made with Codemasters; instead we got OFP 1+a half that was called ArmA. Is this 'inside information' or just speculation? Anyway 3-4 precious years were lost ... and like it or not, we WILL see both OFP2/360 and ARMA2/360 in 2009 were we could have had next-gen ELITE/360 in 2006 I'm really surprised that some pc gamers still think in pre-2002 terms, in pre-MS-XBOX-HALO terms. MS entered the consoles in 2002, took the fps genre by storm with Halo (it convinced me sfps CAN work on console) and it is quite obvious MS are here to stay (for a while). OFP CM/BIS entered in 2001 so at that time they couldn't foresee the shift to consoles, but now they do, as many other devs do. So the trick is to keep your CORE game idea but ALSO bring it to the platform where the mass is, unless you really want to stay a niche game. In the case of ArmA2, which heavily depends/builds on modding/scripting you have a problem cause consoles are not into modding/scripting ... so BIS has to offer other things to make up for that, like ... mission editor (would be awesome) and of course DLC. DLC would be the perfect alternative for modding. In fact a mod could easily become available as DLC if the mindset would be there (my hopes are low though)

True remarks. I have to point out the Elite scene saw a small group of persons experimenting with this 'porting' of pc missions, even mods, to xbox. But yes, MS is the bottleneck. For above mentioned 'porting/modding' you need a modded Xbox but mission could be played on an unmodded xbox (by using ActionReplay memcard) For fun and because i was suddenly inspired i undusted an old mission and made a trailer out of it (this is a pc mission, ported to xbox. Running in Elite the lightning amongst others is MUCH better ... but the res is down of course)

I think you forget that even 'little kid brothers' grow up and WILL have a life of their own Parents have to let go, kids have to respect. I mean, how simple could it be. I would be proud if ArmA2 would shine both on PC AND console ... but hey, that's me
-
I will tell you one thing. The ArmA community has to learn to love and embrace a possible ArmA2/360 version. It will be a part of the ArmA(2) universe and hopefully something to be proud of. Why the classic PC OFP community completely slashed the Elite idea is beyond me ... but back then i called it 'murdering your little kid brother' It is the PC community which has to end the hostilities, NOT the console community, cause we were NEVER hostile against the big/core pc part of it, as we always knew we were the 'kid brother of our BIG pc brother' to which we look up, and always will see a THE inspirator of things happening.
-
Now why would you do that? Simple answer: You can't use a mouse in bed:) You see, loving the 360 controller is a stepping stone to loving the 360:P ... not because the 360 is 'better' than pc, of course not, but because it is zillion times more relaxed:) (and TrackIR? In bed?)
-
Is that so? ... Yep is so When I play on my 360 I'm laid on my bed, playing on a 42" Full HD TV, usually with my wife laid next to me gaming/writing on her laptop PC, when I'm playing on my PC I'm sat in the kitchen at a table, much more comfortable/relaxed playing on the 360, and I have a nice thick quilt to lay under if I don't want to wear any clothes, perfect! Seems like a pretty much perfect setup to play some ArmA2 campaign j/k, i know OFP and ArmA(2) is rooted on pc, but a 360 version would/will be a very welcome addition to the console game library ... keep up the good work
-
Is that so? Anyway, what ZiiiP said ... any chance/info on the 360 version being released at the same time as the PC version?
-
I care ... and tbh, i know more about pc's than you
-
Is a 360 version still in the works? (if yes, will it be released together with pc or will it be (much) later?) golem.de article states ArmA2 is pc only!? While arma2.com says TBD
-
It will be on 360

Not very encouraging news about ArmedA 2

Hate is a very strong word/emotion ... i always suggest to my kids not to use that word because i don't think you really 'hate' something, it is mostly based on ignorance ... ppl who 'hate' are doomed (not consoles;)) But anyway ... i'm out of this forum, it consumes too much of my time:) .. i will check back after the summer on the status of ArmA2/360. Have fun and good holidays. -- Max -

Epic as in -> you see OFP engine/AI in action ... as i explained in the comments. I said the mission was dead easy ... yet the outcome (combined with the music) can be regarded as epic ... hence the 40.000+ views with 4,5/5 star rating. I mean ... plot development???? They whole point of this vid is to show the AI battle at Le Port ... THAT IS THE WHOLE PLOT (and i observed it thru bino's) What did you want ... a machinima of Saving Private Ryan??? With this video i captured the soul of OFP (at least that is how i see it) ... if i missed something plz explain me what the soul of OFP is? -

OFP, yes, long time ago but wasn't fun for me so I quit. ArmA only the demo which wasn't fun either, since I lose interest very fast if forced to play with mouse/keyboard. I only play strategy games on the PC. Grim You are a console boy so no wonder why dont you like ofp/arma.So dont say your opinion for a game you are not going to play. Errm, he played Elite (iirc that has an UPDATED OFP engine) Problem with this community is that they will happily kill-off their little brother (called Elite). In stead of being PROUD that the OFP expanded to unknown territory .... no, you wouldn't want that to happen ... and you STILL don't ... how very ... (well, i will not go on , with P hinting at my language) -

I played OFP back in 2002/2003 I played Elite in 2005/2006 I played ArmA in 2006/2007 I made photo's as a army photograper in a virtual battlefield or go check here I made several Elite video's, amongst which my magnum opus Battle at Le Port I even made 2 ArmA video's Cobra Attack and Zombies ... So **I** sure as hell know what i'm talking about. I f*****g just want a 360 version of ArmA2 and/or OFP2, and i am pretty sure i will manage to play with the controller. ... That the 360 will be 'a bit less pretty' than the pc version ... well good for you, you should have that benefit, cause you paid for it! So, anyone who still whines 'it is not good/possible on kiddy consoles' plz, make a more epic video than Battle at Le Port (yourself, not ripped from the net) and i will perhaps give you any credit ... until than i'm just not impressed by any pc argument. (Yes, i know Elite didn't sell well ... probably because of lots of reasons but lets see if OFP2 and/or ArmA2 can correct that misfortune of a gem of a game) -

Sorry, but I quit reading after that, since it's the typical PC nerd nonsense we have to read over and over.  Grim Amen to that internal dev meeting: A. i heard there are 10 million 360 owners B. sure? A. yes! ... now if we could sell our hard-core shooter to 2% of those, that would mean, errrmm, 200.000 copies ... not bad B. yeah, but that is too easy A. what do you mean? B. lets go for the super niche of that one guy who owns a super-hyper-you-name-the-specs-future computer and make a game tailored for him A. hmmm B. ... we can make the island real big, remember, what we always wanted, you can see the whole island if you set the 'view distance' to max ... a gamers paradise A. one guy heh? how much will he pay for our game B. 40$ A. but what about those 200.000 other gamers B. forget them ... (now what about long grass that conceals over distance) -

You know what? One of the reasons - at least for me - that I like to use the 360 controller for shooters and especially mil sim shooters is that this controller feels much more like having a gun in your hand. Pulling the trigger to shoot is a different feeling than hitting a key... Â Grim 360 controllers have triggers? Â Or is that the button on the back your talking about? Â Are you really insinuating that CLICKING WITH A DAMNED MOUSE BUTTON is a better representation of pulling a gun trigger than actually pulling the RT on a 360 controller (with slight pull = hold breath) If you are saying that, you are even dumber than i thought was possible:) Anyway, i notice the arrogance/hostility towards consoles haven't changed one bit since the Elite days ... well, you guys will never, ever, ever convince me ... not even when you give me some nice little usb led light to 'shine by my keyboard' I'm waiting for a 360 version of ArmA2/OFP2, adn god forbid, i hope they don't go cross-platform ... i don't want no fr*kking pc gamer yelling 'i owned you with my mouse/keyboard' (or typing it ... what else is the use of a keyboard) Thankyou for your lovely input Max. Â Remind you to buy you a drink if we ever meet. Anyway, I wasnt flaming in any way or form, it was meant to be a little tongue in cheeek but maybe it didnt come across the way it was intended. I have no issue with people using a console for this game. Â I dont own one and I never will so I cannot comment on the way Arma is played on them. Â What I can say and will is the fact that surely there is more control with using a mouse / keyboard than there is with a controller or do they auto-target? Be cool if they did go x-platform because then we (the PC owners) can say, 'We owned you, hahahaahahahah!!!!!!'. Â Have a nice day. My input stands:) and i do so for fun ... Anyway, (i suppose) you don't have a 'controller' yet you present the 'fact' that a mouse/keyboard 'surely' gives more control??? Wheter that is true or not i don't care, but building up your arguments has severe flaws:) Now, i was a pc gamer for years, and even last year i played ArmA ... on pc ... so i at least have used both input devices. I prefer the 360 controller ... a no nonsense, highly amazing, very versitle, quality input device. If the devs use it correctly even a tac mil sim shooter where using your brains is more important than split second aiming should not be a problem with a controller (at least not for me) And seriously, i don't want cross platform pc gamer in my session, for the same reason as i don't want any Halo kids ... that reason is that in both cases we don't mix very well. On xbl you are welcome (even as a friend in my xbl friendslist;) -

I don't want a light to shine on my keyboard and frikking search for 1 key in the midst of 100+ other keys (and have to remember them as well, without a booklet, next to the keyboard on the frikking desk) I want my eyes glued to the screen, my 2 hands round the damn near perfect 360 controller, fingers on the analogue triggers, 2 thumbs on 2!! analogue sticks ... with a couple of extra buttons to go, headset on, talking to my XBL buddies and go,go,go in my own self made, with the ffff***ggg mission editor, on a extended co-op campaign having serious fun in a quality mil sim shooter. ... and that is what i want on 360 -

Explain 'The Sims' to me ... does 'The Sims' says anything on ArmA (although they both run on the same platform)'Dumbed down' refers to a product, NOT a platform The only thing which i image to be different on 360/ps3 is a possible mission editor (because it should accomodate the gamers using their std controller) ... and scripting/modding of course (that may stay a pc exclusive) -
Thats true, but people who plan to buy ArmA2 will still buy it no matter what OFP2 does, and vice versa. OFP2 is going to outsell ArmA2 no matter when BIS releases it because of the name... OFP was an award winning game that was very popular. ArmA is known as a really buggy game that was released 6 months too early, and wasn't much more then a rehash of a 5 year old game that has many of the same problems as OFP. You tell me which games sequal is going to sell better. CM could easily say something like 'From the makers of DIRT and GRID comes now the ultimate mil sim ... OFP2' ... and have a lot of attention of gamers because mentioned games are just quality titles (albeit not true hard-core sims). Compared to that, what can BIS say??? ... ArmA2 will only attract attention of hard-core mil sim gamers. I doubt they will attrack masses and even the hard-core BIS fans can be very harsh in their opinion (remembers Elite) I wish BIS all the luck, and i look forward to toy with an ArmA2 mission editor on 360 .... but a sales success??? I have my doubts

The fact remains that PC gamers have always been known as the more hostile and elitist for most game genres, and there has been the keyboard/mouse vs. gamepad war for quite some time. It is the arrogance which bothers me (not the mouse, keyboard, gamepad, that are just 'input-devices', and that is just a choice a gamer makes) I was once a pc junkie but i learned to enjoy a controller with Halo. The 360 controller is imo the best controller yet (esp. for shooters). Versatile and makes me switch from Bioshock to Mass Effect to Ace Combat to PES2008 to Vegas to GTA4 and now GRID (demo) with ease. *I* don't want to go back to m/kb, controller is fine for me. So let us console gamers have ArmA2 and OFP2 on our respective consoles. We don't need pc gamers for a 'war', we have our own 360 vs PS3 war:)
-
Are you serious? I guess you are seeing the exclamationmark i.s.o a smiley. I'm just a happy 360 gamer (even if this is a PS3 thread). I don't need hostile pc gamers showing-off their elitist arrogance. If you want to 'join' for some serious fun, ok, otherwise just stick with your own platform (the whole cross-platform gaming is a big mistake, uhmm perhaps not for online poker)

I'm rather disappointed by the majority on this forum who appear to be thinking that the ONLY game can be ArmA and the ONLY dev can be BIS and the only platform can and must be PC. I PLAYED and LOVED Elite by BIS ... a console game slaugthered by members on this very forum. Well, that opened my eyes a little bit:( ... so i'm not surprised by the hostility towards OFP2 by CM.
