    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

Correct. BFBC is an amazing game. And team work in that game is key (esp in the goldrush mode)It has also arcade features and is a bit too fast/hectic for my taste, nevertheless, while i'm not at all brilliant at that game, and more than often a bit overwhelmed by the chaotic nature, BFBC has a lot of qualities. Same is true for MW1. (but here is well it is just a tad too arcade/fast for my taste) ... i was the classic Ghost Recon guy with a touch of Rainbow Six (well and Elite) So i agree with Grim. I will never say BFBC and/or CODMW are 'crap' (although they are arcade to some extend) they both games oozing quality. And i play those games because of the quality. So, why don't i play quality Halo or Gears? ... well THOSE games are scifi etc. I prefer modern military settings. That is what i mean with SPECTRUM MW2 - BFBC2 - OFPDR - ARMA2 ... on console, i would buy and play all 4 and none of them would be 'crap' in my eyes.

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

Ok, i made a .02 cent analyses on ArmA2/360 coming in 2009/2010. Be prep'd to be shocked! I took the 5 points of Avi and put a percentage of success on it. Also take into consideration that every single point can mean a NO-GO So, here it is, and i am being generous with the success estimation: 1. 70% 2. 80% 3. 60% 4. 60% 5. 70% If all points have to be passed we have a change of 14% (fourTEEN) on a ARMA2/360 version Well, my decision is made. I'm going to just enjoy the 360 games coming out, incl OFPDR ... and i might actually purchase ArmA2/PC if i upgrade my pc (basically because of music production). That won't be this year, but 2010? Perhaps.

using an xbox 360 controller in the PC version

Thx(Hmmm, trackir + 360 controller? Nice) Btw, if somebody want more precision with aiming using a 360 controller. Take a look at these fpsfreek ... just a tip. Cheap and perhaps you like 'm (i do)

using an xbox 360 controller in the PC version

I'm curious ... If you ONLY use 360 controller 1. Can you navigate the menu's properly? 2. What about looking around while moving (infantry). Can you map that correctly? 3. Nice little touch like 'slight pull RT' to hold breath, and 'full pull' to shoot ... possible to map? (Above 3 things were troublesome in ArmA1, iirc)

Yes, definately. That is why i say that OFPDR sits between MW/BFBC and ArmA2 ... not a bad place to be (saleswise) i might add:) Because, CM can't go head-on with MW2, that would be murder, but they don't have to go very-hard-core-OFP like ArmA2So they can pick the best things of both worlds. Which is a very nice starting position. BUT their biggest prob is of course that it is their FIRST FPS. While all contenters have multiple titles outthere. CM NEVER can beat them in the first round. But, who knows, a 2011 OFPDR2 could be a different matter:)
  7. Bring it on:) All this time i have been reading the wrong thread:)

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

As i said before. We need spectrum:)MW2 - BFBC2 - OFDPDR - ARMA2 All can happily coexist next to each other (on console). Goes without saying that sales drop from left to right but even ArmA2 can shift multiple 100k's on 360 i think (a wild guess on 360 would be MW2=4-5M, BFBC2=2M, OFPDR=1-1,5M, Arma2=0,2-0,5M) Well that's not even my 0.02 cents. My 0.01 cents:)

^^ Tbh, if i was serious about M&K i would go all the way and go PC gaming. For 360/PS3 it should be controller. But i'll make exceptions for a wheel or flightstick (thinking of buying a flightstick for upcoming IL2:BoP)

Not if they worked on it in parallel (which would have been 100% wise if BIS was 'thinking' about a possible 360 version)

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

I'm pretty sure the dev'd ArmA2 in parallel for PC and 360. If so, it would make sense to launch it on pc first. To get feedback, at patch it, and do the same for 360 version. Things like controls and load (max units and stuff like that) are prolly already fixed. I think it comes down to finding a publisher. A 2010 release would be disappointing but otoh, with all the games coming in 2009: OFPDR, MW2, IL2BoP, Forza3, Bioshock2, ME2 ... look at the (my) list. A 2010 would perhaps be not so bad after all:)

As for Arma2 ... you are right, we can't (yet?) 360 is made for gaming. A pc is made for wordprocessing. (of course when you throw enough money into the pit you can game on a pc, but it will never reach the costeffectivity of 360 gaming, how could it, 360 is pratically free these days:)) Indeed, cough up cash and time. I gave it up long ago:)

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

^^ Yeah, because i had a quick look at my old pc. And there is no change i can upgrade it to run ArmA2/PC ... that would mean a new pc, and that would mean ArmA2 turn out to be a $500 game (if not more) iso $50. It would also mean i suddenly would have 2 gaming platforms (360 and pc) and that is too much for my spare time. I'll stick to 360, and hope for ArmA2/360 (there will be other games coming to 360 which are interesting. Not only DR but e.g. IL2:BoP or Forza3 heck even MW2 or BFBC2 ... Arma2/360 is on top1 on my list, but i'm not gonna give in and buy a complete new gaminmg platform for it ... that is a thing of the past for me:))

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

^^ I was not a too good mission maker. I tended to fiddle too much. But as you i found the GUARD waypoint great for making mission. Easy and very dynamic. And yes, i also found other (pc) mission much more static even though they seemd to have a lot more code/story in them. Anyway, the only real trouble with the Elite system was that you could 'countdown' the enemies. You made a mission with 4 enemy vehicles and 30 troops, and you could count down if there were any left. On pc you could make 'respawn' scripts to get around this, but on Elite you couldn't. So sometimes you ended up being all alone on the island:)

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

Good one:)Anyway, another trick (for single player) was to upload a pc mission. My 'battle at le port' (see sig) had 166 soldiers in it. FPS dropped to 10 or so. I once tried something like that with some vehicles and choppers, but the Xbox came to a stand still, it really became a slideshow:) allthough it didn't crash! Elite is very stable. Anyway, taking the 150 or so infantry on Elite and factor 4-5 it on 360. I guess an infantry-only battle with 600+ should very well be possible
  16. maxqubit

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

I guessing here. In elite the Editor was limited to certain amount of soldiers/vehicle. Say you could place 50 in total. I guess the 360 will factor this by 5-10 so my guess is that upper limit will be in the 250-500 range. The limit was to insure stable fps. If their are no restrictions to fps (so say you accept a fps of 10) i guess a 500+ battle is possible. But chaos like seen in the (awesome) vid. I can't imagine this on 360. Although the battle takes place at night and that always looks spectacular:)

Fixed specs is better quality games. Technical aspect that is, because the GAMEPLAY has nothing to do with hw (aside from kb, mouse, controllers stuff)

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

Dropping the mission editor for Dragon Rising is a big let down. But i will buy OFPDR anyway. I like modern day shooters (better than scifi or ww2 stuff). So in my library it will have its place next to CMW2 and BFBC2. Where does that leave ArmA2/360? On the far end of the spectrum. So for my gaming i will have the lineup MW2 - BFBC2 - OFPDR - ARMA2/360 ... perhaps some GhostRecon4 and a RainbowSix iteration will show up extending the lineup even more. I like all those games, just as i admire a rainbow in total (and not a specific color) The only OBVIOUS problem will be the TIME those games consume, esp if they are released on top of each other. So from a available TIME aspect i probably would choose Arma2 over DR over BFBC2 over MW2, going from the realistic side of the lineup to the arcade. ArmA2/360 deserves it place in the 360 library and could take up a very big chunk of my game time ... if it materializes. That is still 'To Be Seen'

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

Niche? well you need spectrum. CODMW2 - BFBC2 - OFPDR - ARMA2 Like a rainbow, they overlap a bit but won't hurt each other too much. And yes, Arma2 would be situated at the most realistic side of the spectrum. I like spectrum (options/choice) so BIS plz bring on ArmA2/360:)

The strength of the pc is also its weakness. A pc game is never optimized. Throw more hw at the game and it runs 'better'. I was a fps junkie once. FPS in the FramesPerSecond sense that is. That 'hunt' for more fps totally ecplised the normal fps (FirstPersonShooter). At the height i think i was more time busy fiddling with setting, hw, drivers and tweaks than actually playing the frikking games. Now i've consoles (360) and don't have that problem. I just play and therefor i hope ArmA2 will make it on 360. Above is MY thing. It doesn't have to be like this with every pc gamer, but it was my frustration (to know you always could throw money at it to make it 'better') Sorry for the slight OT and personal thing, but there you go:) (What did i do the last 2-3 hours? Took Lara thru some Thai jungle etc. Nice and easy, and goodlooking too, even on 360:))
