    Patch 1.14 Troubleshooting

After performing my due diligence and researching/troubleshooting on my own, I'm convinced that the sound problem myself and others have been experiencing is a bug. What happens: In any intense firefight all sound effects will gradually fade out until the game is almost completely silent. The more units involved in a fight, the faster this will occur. Disabling EAX and hardware acceleration makes the problem better, but doesn't alleviate it completely. This is with a clean install and no addons/mods. What I've done to troubleshoot: - removed and re-installed OpenAl - directX diagnostics - removed and re-installed the most recent sound-card drivers - tried Creative's beta drivers from Jun 2 2008 which list "OpenAl issues" as one of the fixes. - Completely removed and re-installed Arma - lowered hardware acceleration in sound-card properties I have encountered several other posts from users on this forum and elsewhere describing this same problem and would encourage those users to post here so we can see how many are actually affected. My Specs: - XP Pro - Core 2 Duo E6750 - Gigabyte P35DS3L MB - 2 x 2gb patriot DDR in dual-channel - BFG 8800 GT OC 512 - Audigy 4 Gamer - Sony DRU800A DVD - Seagate 300gb SATA HD

    Am I having fade issues?

Addons or not makes no difference here either. I can also make the problem better by disabling EAX and hardware acceleration, though it doesn't go away completely. With EAX and HW enabled, virtually all sounds disappear save for a stray shot or explosion here and there. With both disabled, I'll still lose about 50% of the sounds I should be hearing, including my own weapon firing. I've tried re-installing OpenAl as was suggested in another thread, but no luck. I'm using the most current drivers for an audigy 4 and XP, so there's nothing to be done there either. In my case however, it's just the sound problem, I haven't noticed anything going on with the AI. Am I having fade issues?

I'm having the same problem. My game was updated incrementally, so I don't think it has anything to do with installing 1.14 directly. I've noticed several other posts with similar problems, the common denominator seems to be a creative sound card. Mine is an audigy 4. It happens almost immediately in large missions with lots of units. Is there a config line to up the amount of RAM allocated for sound? Anyone have any suggestions?

    exec's mod

I agree, put it back up. If the people in multiplayer are afraid someone will cheat with this, that shouldn't affect the people who can't/don't do multi and are strictly singleplay. It's not our problem. Realism is great, but anyone who has actually fired a 5.56 weapon will tell you the recoil as depicted in the game is ridiculous. I can see some muzzle-climb with burst or full, but single shots no. Of course it's your deal, if you don't want to put it back up that's your prerogative, but someone will eventually just do the same thing. I'll even host it for you provided the file size isn't too extreme.
