    ArmA Progress Updates

Now this is interesting. A speculative question: Would this possibly imply that the webbing, tactical vest and helmet are separate from the soldier model? If so this opens up another bag of kitten to play with!!! Low Light Out.

    Latest screenshots available

With regard to the four new screens. The one with the check point in particular: Is it me or is this the first time we are seeing a 'CamelBack' hydration system? Also is is me or do the different soldiers seem to have different loadouts (refering to their webbing and tactical vests)? The soldiers seem to look different from each other somehow, other than the obvious skin tone differences. The helmet with goggles; the gloves; the knee pads, etc. The ammo pouch on the soldier holding the M240 (?) seems to correspond with the type of ammo of the weapon he's holding. Just speculation on my part but this might hint at the possibility of customising soldiers. I might be seeing things of course, but it all looks interesting, can't wait for more...well I'm quite paitent so maybe I can...will just get on with my life and wait to see what happens with what looks likely to be another success story for BIS (Hope I don't jinx anything! ). Low Light out.

    William Porter's Blog

I think that the Blog was intended as another medium through which to, not only promote the game, but also to provide a background or history which will provide an extra element of imersion. Think about it this way, It's kind of like watching the news and being informed of events surrounding a situation. If we are aware of the history of a given situation we will have more of an understanding and possibly be more involved. Therefore when the game is finally released we are able to take control and 'live' the experience of a character (in this example it's William). It's possibly trying to get us involved in the story a lot more and presenting it in an innovative way. Though it could also be a way of distracting the wingemonger brigade from creating endless posts entitled 'Why is ArmA not released yet and why is the arm patch the wrong way round', though for the distraction to be effective they would have to update regularly...hmmm Low Light out

    Mission Tutorial: Snypir

I will be making a point of visiting the UKF forums as soon as possible. I'm a bit 'Forum Shy' but have just realised how much help is available and how much collective information is available. Cheers Messiah . As a result of enquiries at OFPEC the snYpir tutorial has come to light. Big thanks to Chris Death who managed to find the tutorial in a paper print out and is about to start making it available on OFPEC in a more user friendly version (man is a legend! ) If anyone is interested in a very effective 'realism' tutorial, with a slight UK/OZ bias, then this tutorial is ideal for you. I'll try and update this post when the tutorial is released on OFPEC for those interested, curtosey of Chris Death. I must state that the tutorial is a very useful primer and introduction to realistic mission making. Next stop: UFK Forums! Thanks all for you help re: this matter.
  5. I'm trying to find Snypirs realistic Mission tutorial. I've checked OFPEC, but there doesn't seem to be any trace of it, all links seem to be dead ones! I do understand that OFPEC is still recovering from it's down time and that it's not 100% yet. I was wondering if anyone knows the where-abouts of the above mentioned tutorial on the net, Google searches have returned little success. I am very interested in British military doctrines and battle tactics and I feel Snypir had the best tutorial in this regard, for mission making that is. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. (The above post was made in the following topic: Realistic Mission Making Resource on: Sep. 06 2006,17:07. I felt that since no one had posted in reply I could assume one of two things: 1) That no one can answer the question. In which case I appologise for this new topic, or 2) That no one reads posts in the 'Realistic Mission Making Resource' topic and so I was wasting my time posting there. It is with the later in mind that I start this new topic. If I am in contravention of any forum rules, I appologise and suggest that a moderator close this topic.) Many thanks , Low light

    Mission Tutorial: Snypir

Cheers Buddy, Was going to be my next port of call, though with hind sight it should have been my first. Just thought this forum would have more hits than OFPEC, and therefore I would stand a better chance of getting my question answered, I shall try there now Thanks again for the advice Macguba
  7. FANDABBY DOSSEY!!!! I absolutely love this . Congratulations on a superp and realistic mod. Thankyou so much for your dedications and hard work. A quick question: You have a UAV in one of the test missions (wg_test_air_r.Intro) and I was wondering if it was useable? I tried climbing in and flying around but alas it just bounced around and crashed. I've tried to find it in the editor, but I can't seem to find it anywhere other than in it's 'empty' form in the above mentioned test mission. Could you give us all a clue to it's function and where-abouts in the editor we could find it. It would be much appreciated. Congrat's again Â

    ArmA Progress Updates

Cheers for posting the screen capture Red Kite . RE: STOL/VTOL - I was interested in any knowledge circulating about fixed wing aircraft and their capabilities. Any clues as to if such a capability was planned/mentioned, even as a passing comment? @ Commando84: the large building has a sign on it. Looks like it's A I R P O R T, so I'm guessing (duh! I'm so clever! ) that it is an airport terminal... Looking forward to more news.

    ArmA Progress Updates

Hello all, I noticed in one of the video's supplied by th OFP.INFO crew in their recent interview that there is quite an interesting feature with regard to the 'water issue'. The video in question is the 'Boat Trip' video (can be downloaded from ofp.info). Once you get past most of the video presumably explaining the transition of water from deep to shallow and showing the waves in action (there is no sound btw), you will notice at the end that before the boat drives up the rock on the shore ( ! ) the the view pans down below the boat itself, revealing TRANSPARENT WATER. This surely will bring about a new emphasis on gameplay and a new theater for battles to take place in. Though the question remains, will transparent water allow us to swim, and from previous posts it has been stated that it is not a planned feature, but we can always hope that their plans change and they do decide to add the ability. Just an observation, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before. I'm really impressed with the quality of the transistion between OFP to ArmA based on the screens and videos to date, but I believe 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating' so shall save judgement till release, but I do feel the active community has influenced the shape of the new game somewhat (even if it was by a small amount). Though there are lots of things being identified as 'problems' there are far more important and beneficial advances in the games funtionalty which make it very appealing indeed. Will be watching with interest. A quick question: Is anyone able to tell me if the Harrier has realistic flight (STOL/VTOL) capabilities? Has this been mentioned? If not it may be worth asking, would help a lot of addon developers out and may bring about the possibility of a VTOL craft being developed (V22 springs to mind) . Cheers guys,

    two operation flashpoint 2s?

@Antichrist: From the look of the Press Release, it seems to me that CM have already put their balls on the table! Â I just hope something good comes out of all this. BIS have the Intellectual Property rights on the games, but CM have the sequel rights to the Name...it would make sense to co-operate and get a win-win situation, but I guess we don't know all the details and therefore can only sit here and speculate as to what will/might happen, driving ourselves crazy over a period of 1.5 to 2 years while these games are developed. It could all be a big market ploy from both sides, but then it would be some what misleading and confusing, creating apathy for the product, so I guess that would rule that theory out.

    two operation flashpoint 2s?

I am just wondering what exactly are CM going to do with their game that will out do the BIS version! It's going to have to be somewhat revolutionary to really make people purchase their game. It's going to be very interesting to watch what happens.

    two operation flashpoint 2s?

Too much cometition can be bad also...if games are rushed through because one publisher is ready to release and another isn't, then the quality of the game suffers. I hope that this won't be the case. Besides I feel the BIS has a head start on their Games develeopment. Their intimate relationship with the community is likely to pay of. Whereas CM is likely to hive of information and attempt a copy...not all copies are as good as the original. We shall just have to wait and see. I'm sure there will be a battle created somewhere with regard to the loyalty of the community. I wish both teams well, (though I would prefer a BIS product...due to loyalty )

New pics of OFP2 from Gamespot

I think we should all understand that these are all initial Examples of what has been achieved so far. There is going to be alot of tweaking and adjusting, the end result should be superb. I'm sure the community feedback will help to produce an even better game. I also believe that BI would have made and effort to research future technology of modern warfare and implement realistic 'military assets' into the game. Their selling point has always been the focus on realism, and I think they have come along way in 4 years. The games industry will always be advancing and I'm sure BI have kept up with this advancement. Sorry for the waffle. I am one of the many insects that will probably come out of the wood works to express their point of view and give some input! I guess it shows the the tyoe of reaction this game is getting. (Pardon for the off 'topicness')

I don;t know if this has been posted already: Check out the pics on this page Check out the Land Rover!!! That's an 'Alpha', in game image, I can't wait for the finished product. The green roof will probably be sorted out in time. Brit pack in the works? I sure hope so. I can't wait to follow the development of this project. It sure is going to be sweet.

    Us colonial marines

Hey guys, I'm so excited about this mod. The work seems to be first rate from the looks of what you have shown us. The DS and APC vid was stunning. I have been a lurker for a long time and I thought I'd try and help the mod out a little by putting some inspiration your way. I don't know if you have already seen this but it might help. I am a Keen modeler (Airfix, not CG) and I find that there resources that you get with airfix models that can be used for CG modelling...any way I found some images that you might like to use as reference for the inside of your APC. Custom APC at Starship modeler Good luck with the Mod and I can't wait to see the end results. Low Light

    Project UK Forces

Guys this mod is looking fan-daby-dozy! I saw your pic's of the LR WMIK on your sight and I was curious as to whether you will be raising the height of the .50cal on the rear as it looks very low to me. I am a keen modeller, but not in terms of using a computer, I am better at using plastic, glue and paint brushes!!! Both types of modelling are very similar in the methods: build a model and then paint it (along those lines anyway)... I was cruising through my usual web pages looking for new products and inspiration when I came across these pics...maybe they will inspire you. The model plans you get with the packs are pretty good as they give you the correct proportions and paint guides, as well as decals and details. Accurate Armour military models Good luck with the project.

    Optical Camo Soldier Released

Oooo...me like Now, if I can only figure out how to make an addon that will allow me to see thermal imaging!!! See you in about 5-10 years lads (and lases). With any luck someone else will beat me to it... Low Light edit: thermal imaging - so that I can see the soldier who is in optical camoflage ( *cough* Predator *cough*)
  18. Hey 5133p39, I think that small UAV's are mainly used in squad based missions and in real life they are used to provide a 'bird's-eye-view' on an area of operation. An example of the Aladin's use would be in scouting out a village prior to or during an operation by a squad (patrol/reconaissance). I would imagine that this type of UAV would be used by more specialist teams, though I may be wrong. It would be a hard target to hit (and spot); it's cheaper than a larger UAV (which need special arangements to launch and recover them); it's man portable (can be carried by a soldier); and would provide a squad with vital information, especially for [squad] command units, who can identify where their forces are and where possible enemy units are located (very useful in FIBUA/MOUT...etc). Â Hope this gives you an idea of how it could be used. @BW MOD: This a great addon and I love using it for mission intro's. Recently installed the game again, due to great addons and innovations. Looking forward to more from this amazing mod. Low Light
