and how do you know that? yeah you are totally right, BIS dont want to sell this game at all, especially not to americans, so whats why they dont have a US publisher... Why didnt we think of that earlier!? You are so smart! oh please. If they never intended to market or have a US release or a US publisher why the hell did they use US forces in the game If they wanted to send a message to ignore the US market base and players you would have seen European NATO forces as "West" and never even bothered a memo to those of us across the pond.

ummmm, good one. Just picked up GTR-2. It has a TON of language choices. Same idea you mention. I'm wondering, with so many publishers who will each have their own final format going into the PC's hard drive will that mean you could buy copies from two different pubs and have two versions(or more) on your PC???

So the first addon built for ArmA will be a hand grenade that looks like a beach ball. Then when the big party occurs and the first person goes to bounce the ball "BOOOOMMMM BIEACHS". Your all dead
-
Hopefully as good a place as any.. Will the mod and addon tools be written in English? Answer;don't know

Could it be said then that if a large North American publisher was found that didn't want to ruffle BIS's feathers that Arma could quickly be put to market ? I'm not well versed in the gaming market which is why it is confusing to me to see so many publishers for one game. Is that normal?
-
You are on the wrong forum, it was 505's decision, not BISs maybe someone can clarify this for me. What your saying is, once a publisher is found the developer losses control of things? They have no influence on release dates or advertising and marketing. Do the publishers have a background in game design? Or they just do market research and say to the developer "We researched your market and the gaming population won't like it this way, so change it?" No offense to anyone, but sounds like a stupid way for a industry to run. So I guess I am more confused by the amount of publishers involved in this. It seems after the CM debacle that you wouldn't want the chance of a repeat, but now there seems to be a large amount of possible repeats with so many pubs. I can see why EA and the big boys make mucho bucks. Either by buying up the developers into the EA family, or strong arm them out of the control of there game. It actually reminds me of a industry that i am involved in. Automotive. A designer brings about a car concept that makes the public excited. The company takes that concept, dumbs it down and generalizes it to the point no one is excited anymore. Then they wonder why the car concept was popular and the car product sucks balls.

wow, as a American I don't forsee a North American version anytime soon. Seems more like mid 07' now. bummer, guess I will find something else to pass the time Looking at my shelf of games, since just before 05' when the talk of a "OFP sequel" came out I've spent some coin passing the time. I'd reeeeaaaaallllly like to spend that coin to benefit BIS/IDEA

Which modders, addon makers, island designers, plan on retooling or designing their projects or work from OFP to ArmA? I ask for myself and others who enjoy the great addons/mods/islands that are made for OFP. If anyone would like to post their answer here it would be great. It would be a easy, knowledgable way for people like myself who are making a island, or people who are making campaigns to know that if they would like to convert there work to ArmA that the addons they are using now, will be retooled for ArmA. Thank you.

I don't get it? What are you trying to get at?

Thanks for the replies. Anyone else care to share?

Dang, I better go put myself in the corner. I like all those things Seriously, I hear where your coming from. I think the market, which is what it is, a market. Is fueled in a way that as you described. One thing I have grown frustrated with as I age is the sheep mentality that my country seems to have. If something is suddenly the "in" thing then everyone does it. In gaming for the US crowd it seems the same themes are barfed up over and over. Really, is anyone else as sick as I am over Mario 54, Zelda 32, Metroid bazillion? Eye candy is the key selling point and flashy commercials that really don't show anything sell. I applaude BIS and their collective group for doing it there way. If that means that the US version is not released until a later date because the US market is to blind to see a quality game looking it square in the monitor then so be it. Will it bother me, kinda some. Will I complain to the masses. Nope, just keep hoping for the best. I cannot see a day where ArmA isn't sold on US shelves. The sheep will come flocking when they see the Euro sales
-
Correct you are. If I am mistaken please someone correct me. Euro was June 22nd 2001 and the North American was, Sept 1st 2001. and nice song..."I'm gonna own you...like someone's mom trying to play the game...own you"

I was a little surprised to see him retire, but the setting for it was proper. He is and was a joy to watch on those early Sunday mornings here in the states

I bet the story goes this way. Will took a case of Bud/Miller/Hienken/take your pic of beer down to the motor pool and set it in front of the Hummer that had rear end damage. Then looked at the motor pool Sergeant and asked. "Are you sure the Hummer has rear end damage?" The motorpool Sergeant replies. "If you and your boys help me finish this case of beer and fix this Hummer, then bring me another case we can go tell that new a-hole that showed up it doesn't have a scratch on it."

Perfect But I will add, in all my years Whitetail hunting with a shotgun I've never seen one fly a few meters backwards after being killed, let alone even a meter. Most pile up in a ton of &*%$ and fall dead where they stand. If they are on a dead run and I am lucky enough to hit them their own momentum piles them up into a rolling ton of &*(%

whoa, I like that new box cover! ArmA in the background, very cool. http://www.bistudio.com/games/ofaa.html

Roger roger Sorry to have misinterpreted your post. And I would agree with you that I prefer accurate protrayals in the movies.
-
It was ironic because he is in the Marines. I came straight home, plopped into the chair and that was the first post I read. I never tried to use it to justify a view, only as a example that maybe you shouldn't bash on anyone in the armed forces with your "cheezy unhistoric 'american soldiers are real heroes' war movie" comment. I took it as a cheap shot towards those Marines that served and the movie is based on.
-
Do you have any OFP programs or mods, addons running with the mission? Threw it's beta and release it was found that anything other then bare bones 1.96 OFP would cause crazy unknown bugs like you experienced.
-
trolling I see.. Ironic I read this just after dropping my brother off at the airport for his second tour/MEU to Iraq.
-
I'm all for it if it is done correctly and from the trailer it looks top notch. I hope it also is historically accurate focusing on the original Marines who placed the flag atop the hill along with those Marines and Corpsmen who placed the flag in it's dipiction(sp?) in all of the famous photos. [im]http://www.iwojima.com/raising/lflagi.gif[/img] sorry to nitpick, I have a Marine in the family who pounds the facts in

FlashNews Armour Hit Competition.
lilwillie replied to Placebo's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
whoever won, congrats from this man first. Let's all hope for the floodgates of Arma info and whatever to open when the winner is announced. -
Most likely go threw the menu screen after it is loaded. Then threw the editor to see what is available for both sides. As El Muerko stated, drop a bunch on the island and see how the game looks. Then check the MP and get that configured to play. last will be starting the SP because I know once I start I will be sucked in until it's over. Then start hunting for how I am getting my island into the game..
-
Ha, yup. I can't wait to satchel the hell out of a town, wait for some enemy armor to roll in to investigate and then hit the magic boom button and watch the town go up in smoke. Hopefully they include a evil giggle along with that cough

So going by your statement(not busting your balls) Where does that leave the North American market? Where is the statement it will be distributed online also?
