Give this one a try. Just loaded up. Start is a little Crash BH with no weapons aboard. Not much info to go with right away. No explanation why I crash or if I got a radio message out before crashing or why I was flying over a "unknown" island. Maybe the story will explain that. On my way to Eponia, seems like the closest city to start looking for assistance. I'll report back later how things go.

Stewy, nice to see some members gave you the process to keep your work place from having a meltdown. It's sad that we are in a day and age where someone can be "offended" by such a normal thing you would see in every day life. But with work place laws geared the way they are these days it's always better to be safe then sorry. Which is why I have zero employees to worry about offending But if you think employees can be offended easily you should see how easy customers can become offended

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA
lilwillie replied to dslyecxi's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
What I was attempting to refer to was a comparison between teams that use real life tactics in game compared to a team that allows everyone to run off and do their own thing. I was comparing a structured team to choas. The original thread my post was in asked if real life tactics work in game and my answer is, yes, they do. Then I compared them, poorly, to groups that have no structure and just run off shooting and looting with no teamwork. -
Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA
lilwillie replied to dslyecxi's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
I would always prefer to use real tactics in Arma over CS style of gameplay. RL works very well for me personally and for the guys in the Regiment. The CS player will say they can Rambo the guys all squaded up and using tactics. However the Rambo's may cut down one or two but the squad will know and act accordingly. The Rambo may also not realize that the squad just called in his death and know where the Rambo is now. Without support, no one observing for him. A lack of air support to get him out of the hot zone. No mechanized there to bring fire down to cover his withdrawal, the Rambo dies. Granted, my example above is when your playing on a realistic style of map. No respawns. A respawn map the CS style player may be able to level the playing field up some using CS style tactics that are basically guerilla warfare style. Hit and runs, Sniping, ambushes and quick withdrawals but in the end the time is limited. With the RL tactical squad looking for patterns, setting up their own ambushes and possibly having troops on the field specific to hunting down the CS player. As the objectives are cleared and taken by the squad the CS has his own sniper to worry about but that sniper is working in unison with a squad and both assist each other. If all the CS players and RL players are on their respected comms I think over time the lack of coordination on the CS side would lead to their defeat. The numbers may be equal to kills and deaths in the field but I would want to believe the RL would work better to win outright threw superior tactics, firepower and cooridination. To go back to my mention of guerilla sytle tactics used by the CS player. That makes them using real life tactics doesn't it? So in reality both styles of play are using real life tactics in Arma when the map is a realistic style map. When the map is a DM or CTF and not realistic both are still using real life tactics. Real life because ArmA is built to be a sim. Not a bunny hopper where you have a health bar and can carry 15 styles of weapons. -
Look forward to trying it out. Red Dawn is still one of my favorites. I remember it in the 80's. Height of the Cold War. The Russian Bear coming to get us. Nuke talk on the news damn near every night. Reagan and Gorby meeting for talks. Guess that makes me one of those old guys also

I asked for clarification from official sources awhile back in this post Previous discussion But there was no official response just speculation among member here.

That's pretty good, thanks for the laugh this morning

...against a smaller number of old and malequipped and undertrained iraqi export and license build T-72s & T-55s...it never met something of it's class in the field...thats makes the M1A1 look so impressiv on the paper. In this terms even the M-60 was impressive...in Israeli service. Nor arguement. Which was why I didn't call it the greates tank in the field. That hasn't been determined IMO. But T-72's is what we are fighting against in ArmA so the track record stands. I'm sure the Iraqi T's are down armored and not as well equiped and built as the Russian versions. Just as the Abrams systems sold to other countries are down built. So with your statement above it could be safe to say the SLA T-72's wouldn't be top notch when compared to Russia's T-72?
-
The Abrams discussion again. Well, I might as well put my .02 worth in. I think for gameplay the Abrams has been "dumbed down" or "unarmored" to equalize it in the field. Even the fourth tanker is removed since it is the loader I guess they where deemed unnecessary for gameplay even though that loader runs the left side/driver 240 gulf when they are turned out which is aside the TC .50 cal. We also are missing Thermals...which is something that possibly has to do with the game engine. With the T-72, it has been upped some. If memory serves the older T series does not have a load system that allows the turret to stay travesed during reloading. It must go back to the straight forward to reload it's main gun. That's just A1's. Which is what we get to play with so that's all the focus I'm using in the quote above from globalsecurity.com . I'm not saying it's the greatest tank in the field today, but it has a impressive track record in battle. The platform is so good that General Dynamics refurbishes the old. Any Abrams damaged in battle or it's service life used up is sent back and completely overhauled with whatever systems the branch of service uses. That itself shows that the powers that be have confidence in it's survivability rate.

I was your only response, and I did so just to keep the worrying down for the new players in the Atari forum wondering about the game. The same group that I argued with in the community forum section when Atari was announced they where the pub. Atari forum discussion So many people expect BIS to roll over for Atari because of Atari's history. I argued, and didn't seem to make any ground, that BIS controls their game and Atari is along for the ride. BIS supports it's community and appreciates them. Those who responded didn't think so it seemed. As the others have mentioned. I see no reason the games will be different other then in name only for marketing reasons in the US. But like you I'd like to see the official response so the worrying stops.
-
If anyone could please. I am looking for clarification or a official response from BIS that it's US version to be published by Atari will be fully compatible with Armed Assault as we know it and play it. I've already seen posts on the Atari forums for Arma with questions of "what will be different" and what the US version will have that the UK version won't. I think the talk of the A-10 in the Atari release and nothing mentioned for the other versions has started some confusion among newer players to the BIS world. I've made the ass-umption that both versions will be identical and that the only difference is in name only. All patches for all versions will make the game playable in MP no matter the publisher. I've put the cart before the horse and posted in the Atari forum under "Dnalur" to try and let people know that as far as I have read. All published versions worldwide will be compatible in MP. Would someone be kind enough to help me find the official info I need for clarification.

Nice. Oh, and the first time I read the post title I was thinkin. "NOOOO, we don't need some pile of crap 85 Caprice with 20" dubs and a stereo system you could here in Dolores if it was thumpn' in Cayo. And if it is that I am getting the sniper rifle out!

As with most really terrible TV in America I'm sure the producers interview and hand pick the contestants for the show. So just like Jeopardy with the smart ones your going to grab the not so smart ones for a 5th grade show. In their normal day to day life they may be very smart at what they do. But throw them on tv and shot questions at them and blunders will happen. TV in America does suck, big time.

Campaign Quality Has Stepped Down A Notch
lilwillie replied to derfalpha's topic in ARMA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I was pleased with the campaign. It was a good cross of missions. I thought each could be played multiple times in different ways. Some where buggy, I will give that, but where still enjoyable. I thought the story was decent. It made me wonder what would happen next. Which way they wanted it to go. Interesting they left you hanging in the end. You really have no idea what will happen on the island after the war ends. That right there gives anyone wanting a very open book to write their own sequel to the story. I hope to try that myself. Maybe the people who disliked the campaign should give a shot at continuing the story where it ended. It could give everyone a lot of fun stories to follow. -
Awesome, thanks BIS. I see a V-22 Osprey mod in the future. Not from me, but I imagine someone will jump at it.

Had OFP since it's first day or release in 01' so I think I could be considered a "veteran" OFP demo compared to ArmA demo. Hard to compare, one was a SP and the other a MP. OFP felt revolutionary at the time and I think it was. ArmA I feel is a extension of OFP, the next step. Even though the demo has bugs, I truely enjoy it as much as the original OFP demo. ArmA v1.04 compared to some of the first OFP 1.46..and up. I think ArmA surpasses OFP in graphics. I think in realism both are quite equal with ArmA putting forth some added atmosphere and addtional movements that where greatly needed. Better buildings, improved buildings, wildlife, character movements and actions. All a bonus. Weapons wise I enjoy ArmA's selection much more then the original OFP selections offered. Island. ArmA wins hands down there also. It was nice to have four islands with OFP, but with ArmA we will get them all back plus Sahrani. Campaign. OFP so far is the winner. I am half way threw the ArmA campaign and it feels more mission driven then story driven, which is fine with me. I've enjoyed ArmA's campaign, it is challenging. The bugs do give it a knock, which puts it at this time behind OFP's. Multiplayer. ArmA hands down winner. I've never enjoyed myself more. And the mods haven't even begun yet, let alone the tools.

This is a fun mission. I followed the orders given, cracked the officer threw the noggin and ran like hell. The copter on the roof took off fast and I thought I was screwed. Must have had some tough winds. He crashed into the cliff on the first pass. Pretty funny stuff. The explosion also took the squad chasing me off my tail. Guess they needed to see what blew up

Nice! How long was delivery? I ordered on Saturday, my card company called on Sunday to confirm the order was real (my bank does this for reasons I won't get into) and then the order went threw Monday morning. I put it on a two day FedEx express and it arrived Wednesday at about 10am. Just went threw the first mission of the campaign, and checked the editor out. AMAZING improvement over the demo which ran smooth for me already. Good news, Arma is in my hands, bad news, I now leave for two days for business conferences. Oh well, something to day dream about during boring presentations

Live in the US, just recieved my 505 games version of ArmA from FedEx. Ordered out of gogamer.com Happy times, happy times

That is love and devotion. First the wife picks the game up, then the wife start knit picking this glob of flesh, which has been in front of the home PC for weeks, just bitching about weird things like; OPFOR...CTI....damn lag... least that will be what it's like around my house.
