  1. Uhm...!? As I told you...Beer is not really considered a alcoholic beverage in germany... you can get it aged 16.

Simply not true. And neither is the picture true - i dont know a single representative family consuming that much alcohol.

  2. I know, I´ll try to dig up my CD or I´m going to wait if really someone makes a good mod for it. But damn that is really an awesome game. If somebody never played Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast: DO IT RIGHT NOW!

I don't know about the format in which the models, textures etc are stored on the CD (hehe) but I looked at the source code and its really just c++/c stuff. It would take a HUGE amount of time to mod this game...

  3. Countless great gaming hours of my life only happened because of Lucas Arts, sad to see it go.

But they´re not the first and not the last, i´ll live through many more of those sad occasions.

Happend! The last good game by Lucas Arts was Jedi Academy and thats like 10 years ago - I can understad the decision!

  4. I'm just wondering because I cant imagine that Kaspersky doesn't find those 20 threats. Are they real viruses or just stuff where the heuristics scream "warning"? I had sometimes problems at work with certain virus scanners who detected my freshly baked VB.net programs as threats - only because of they weren't signed or anything.

  5. He may be referring to the module that generates random villages from OA.

Yes. As far as I remember BIS introduced the feature as simple land generation and extended it to some point - though I don't own ArmA 2 (I can't play fast paced games anymore, motion sickness - ArmA 3 again works, don't know why).

    @Myke

True, they're still fighting but I remember (thats really some time ago and probably out of the OFP time) reading an article about the AI and about the way it fights out of a certain range. Again, I might be wrong, but I'd bet that its a difference between AI fighting right next to you and on the other side of the island.

  6. I think we will be seeing procedurally generated worlds. Feed it a whole bunch of building models and let the engine use an algorithm to place them only as the player becomes near. Then save this data so it is the same every time the player visits. Or use Google's 3D maps data?

It's all conjecture but I hope to live to see it :D

Thats no difference to today. AFAIK BIS isn't really simulating parts that can't be seen by the player. And ArmA 2 already had the algorithm you're asking for. And to use Google Earth's data it needs to be waaaaaaa[.....]y more accurat.

  7. You have to differ between tasks the engine has to do. I'm quite certain that BIS engine could even render much much larger worlds as we're seeing today. The point where it becomes tricky is to populate everything with AI. Place your player on an ArmA island and everything will be allright. Place 1000 AI soldiers with him and your computer will probably take a nap or something.

I really don't have that advanced knowledge of game engines, but I have the feeling that BIS made a huge step with ArmA 3. There where people asking for a new engine after OFP and considering what BIS made out of the original OFP engine I think their evolutional way is quite effective.

These videos always show a single isolated technology that is quite amazing for itself. But they always forget all the other parts that are simulated, too. And I never saw a youtube clip of a revolutional AI. That would be interesting.

    Edit

    Also wrong forum :P

  8. To start with, I love all the titles for the possibilities they offer and the freedom. I bought the Alpha as soon as possible and excited. It looks COOL and I feel really good about it.

However I still feel the weight of Operation Flashpoint, some colleague also pointed that out (yeah but still moves like OFP)

    - the movement is sluggish, can't explain it better but everyone recognises it; it's not fluid like other FPS games. It's like masturbating with a cheese grater: slightly amusing, but mostly painful.

    - the houses etc are really somehow troublesome to go into and walk around like walking in sticky floor and getting stuck at corners, opening doors is pain, again can't explain it better but you must know it. Navigating houses is not amusing at all.

    - entering vehicles with the damn icon is painful

    - can't jump, just strangely lift your damn leg like you had shat your pants

(ok it's still Alpha, could change - but it won't)

To me, I've been waiting for them to boot the stupid movement engine from their system but they're still stuck with the same things that were annoying in OFP.

With that said, I still love these games, no other like them!

I absolutly can't agree. I think the movement is pretty nice and smooth and no comparision to OFP!

  9. The Alpha is better than playing the first time OFP!

I mean it. I loved OFP back then but this time I'm really impressed with the graphics and the smoothness with which the game runs. And I don't get motion sickness anymore while playing (the problem why I could'nt play ArmA or ArmA 2) - you must have down something with the movement, BIS. I have problems with 95% of todays games because of motion sickness. ArmA 3 is the first shooter that runs fine for my head :)

  10. Its a matter of games. I think this is an observation you can make with many MMORPGs. Lets take WoW as example. When i started playing the game a decade ago you really needed to put some effort into the game. The needed to travel long distances and it took a while until you reached a goal. Then I quit the game for 5 years and was really suprised in how many ways Blizzard had made the game easier, because the younger crowds where whining about nearly everything that took time or effort.

This is indeed not about people who want to enjoy a fast game in front of their TV. I think its really about this instant award thing!

  11. Since Steam seems inevitable by design choice for multiplayer/patching a good start would have been a singleplayer/mission part of the software editor non bound to Steam client. I just can't see any reason why people are happy having a bloatware running in the backgroung while editing a mission/playing singleplayer

I guess this is not permitted by Valve.

  12. I guess its pretty easy then for the anti steam fraction to come up with a masterplan for BIS to release the game on its own servers. I mean, how hard can it be to handle the traffic and the infrastructure needed to maintain a few servers? Or how hard can it be to distribute millions of DVDs across the world to your local store? Peace of cake!

  13. What I really think is funny is that the people pissing around in this forum are thinking they're talking for the majority - but its the opposite and 99% of ArmAs gamers either won't ever care that steam is needed or install it anyway :)

  14. Honestly , whyembarass yourself lol ?

You couldnt install windows 8 and even consider that post without expecting a massive FAIL like respones, it actually stops you before you sign in and give a must see tute all about where everything is haha

honestly i cease to be amazed of the amount of lie pedaling about W8 lol

    1) I think we still speak proper english over here :)

    2) I never said anywhere that I couldn't install it. It tried using the laptop for 6 hours. So please stop 10 flaming about things that are not true.

    3) You really expect me to RESEARCH the internet for understanding how the damn thing works? Come on, thats just more than ridiculous. Do you ask people without further computer knowledge the same? This is 2012! Either you code the system in a proper way or you didn't do you job right. I never had any problems understanding Win7 or the previous versions. I never had problems understanding iOS or MacOS or Android. So please don't tell me I need to do research to find out how to close an application! :)

So if both of you can give me valid points for being wrong than just flaming not quite comprehensible stuff, I'd be glad :)
