This should be pinned at the top of the thread, thank you!

    UK leaves Europe

Sorry for disturbing your fantasies, but you will never ever get more. The baby boomers got more. And now they are receiving their pensions on the backs of the younger generations. Europe (and the world) lived over its real limits for more than 50 years. You will never ever in your whole future get more. Blaming this on the EU (and not your own government making false promises) is nothing but wrong. Edit New favorite statistic: Many UK voters didn't understand Brexit: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/06/brexit-google-search-trends-tech/

    UK leaves Europe

You still dont get it, don't you? If GB/England wants to trade with the EU, you have to comply with our laws! The only difference between now and before is that you do not have anything to say about them. Even more, after this decision you will probably get even worse conditions than Switzerland and Norway.

    UK leaves Europe

Yes - even though this is terrible I think that everyone will see in the next years to what extend GB will really suffer from this decision. I mean, they basicly threw away all their privaliges and are still bound to the rules the EU makes for its markets. So this is like the most stupid decision GB could have made. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/ng-interactive/2016/jun/23/eu-referendum-live-results-and-analysis My most favorit statistic is the one plotting avarage education and leave/remain votes. I remember a comment from China a few months ago about Trump and the uselessness of democracy. Here is more ammunition for their argument...

Exactly that is explained in the previous posts on this topic.

    Battlefield 1

And in response to the others with the same point. I know that its kinda hard to draw a line between wars that are just bloody and wars that are too bloody, I think that WW1 is the perversion of war (if thats even possible). The fear and suffering created from this did not make this world a better place to live in any way. There was no good vs. evil. It was only senseless slaughtering with WMDs that led directly to the next war. I feel the same about the Vietnam war, with napalm replacing mustard gas... WW1 is an area that should not be touched in games glorifying the most horrible things mankind has ever done. But thats just my opinion. Edit The book argument I think that showing millions of teenagers how "cool" WW1 is something different than writing books about it. I don't think that anyone will shut the game down after playing a few others with the realization that WW1 was a bloody mess. Edit 2 - The same line of thought http://www.engadget.com/2016/05/09/battlefield-1-WWI-violence-glorification/

    Battlefield 1

Exactly my thoughts. There are certain parts in history that should not be touched by games in my opinion...

    Democracy 3

Since many people in this forum seem to have a rather great interest in politics (I for my part did not look at anything OFP/ArmA related for years, shame on me... ) I think this could be interesting for many. I bought Democracy 3 yesterday, not because I love politics, but because I want to deepen my understanding of the mechanics. And leaving the fact aside that it's a game, I think it is really interesting and educational. At the beginning of the game, you can chose in which country you want to play (UK, US, Germany, Australia and 2 other I forgot). After that, you start with a short briefing and the main screen: http://static.gamespot.com/uploads/original/1534/15347881/2356161-3632954568-Democ.jpg Red buttons are topics that require attendance (like crime on the left side), blue are statistics, and white are points you have direct influence on by passing laws. In the middle you see all kinds of groups that you have to satisfy. If they hate you, they might form a conspiracy to get you out of office (or even kill you). When you hover your mouse over on button, it displays its connections to the others http://www.positech.co.uk/democracy3/_assets/images/content/s2.jpg Your target is to become reelected by making the multiple groups in the game (see first picture) happy. You can implement new politics and change existing with something called "Political capital" (translated, hope that's right). Each round you only have a certain amount of that, so your actions are limited and you need to focus on what you think is important. In the two rounds I played I ruined the country in the first one and was not reelected. I actually tried to do it the "Merkel way" like in Greece and raised taxes, lowered pensions and thought "well, people have to go through with it". This did not work, since neither was I reelected, nor did the GDP improve. In the second round I managed to increase the GDP quite a lot, but the middle income brackets did not like me at all since I took all their worker rights from them to save the economy. I wasn't reelected either. I think that the game is a really good depiction of reality and when I read the papers this morning I had quite a few "aha" moments. The game costs 22 € at steam and you can download it within 2 minutes (below 200 MB). I'd love to here your experiences playing the game :)
  9. I guess the logic behind that is to keep these contries from thinking something different. :)
  10. Since the Rift and the Vive are already out/will be out soon and the first reviews are coming in... Oculus Reviews (The Verge | ARS Technica | ENGADGET) I am really interested in this technology, not because of the gaming aspect, but because of everything beyond that. I often have to be creative at work and the main tool I use is sadly PowerPoint, because I can visualize relations between objects quite easily in this program. Thus, doing so with my hands within a virtual space would be really, really cool. The main problem (beside the price :D) for me is motion sickness. I'm quite sensitive and become sick often when the game turns out to be too fast. So I am interested whether people who have a similar problems could report how they felt while using the rift/vive.
  11. This is the article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4746294/pdf/fnhum-10-00034.pdf They did not have many participants in the study and the newspaper article only regards one particular result. Thus, I do not have enough knowledge in this area to really understand their methods, but the statistics do not seem completly off...
  12. Hi guys, I have a problem with one of our offices computers. Last week, the time had to be re-entered upon each start-up. I was on holiday and thought this was just an issue with the battery on the mainboard. However, today the computer did not start at all anymore. The boot manager starts, and then everything stops with a blinking white line in the left top corner. I already replaced the battery, reset the bios to default and run everything it offered as diagnosis tool. Thus, everything seems alright. I also checked all cables. I then created a bootable linux USB stick, allowing me to at least access the files on the machine (which worked with no problem). I'm just trying do create a windows 7 usb bootable device but since I don't even get to windows I don't think this is the problem. Can a harddrive be broken while one is still able to access the files?

    The Division

Since they are still publishing new books under his name, I guess it will take some time until they will stop using it. Moreover, they rather use the name as "this is a Tom Clancy game, so you can at least expect anything that resembles armes and tactics in it" than "Tom Clancy wrote the story".

Star Wars Ep. 7 - THE FORCE AWAKENS

Overall, I think this was by far the best Star Wars Movie and I really liked it a lot.

    Elite: Dangerous

^This! Started the multiplayer part with a friend yesterday and it really became noisy because we were so excited when our ships started from the station. My girlfriend could not stop herself from making occasional remarks on my behavior... The game has an amazing sound design, I really love it.

    Elite: Dangerous

Also bought it in the steam sale - must admit that its much more fun than I anticipated. As usually, I started the game without looking at any tutorial at all, but than I found the beginners youtube videos and that pretty much cleared things up for me. :)

What Mobile Phone do you Use?

I'm switching from a iphone 5s to a lumia 950 in a month. I never liked the look of android and I'm getting bored from iOS. Additionally, I'm working a lot with office and onedrive and I need to productivity + the new lumia is amazing. When I look at my energy usage on my iphone, 95% of the phones battery are consumed by Safari, Whatsapp, and outlook. So I won't miss anything on a windows phone.

    Greece navigating "uncharted territory"

This is a very interesting and typical situation that starts to remind me remind me of a game theory situation (prisoner's dilemma)... Just typed a long text until I reconized that somebody else has already done a great job: http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2015-05-29/john-nash-s-game-theory-and-greece I don't think there will be a proper solution though I guess that Greece will suffer much much more from the inability of its stupid leaders to cooperate. Greece has been a black hole sucking money without returning anything and without showing any will to adress the issues that lead to their failures.
  19. Whats the current playable state of the game? Arena Commander + ?
  20. I must admit that the game looks quite good and I really like the way how they're promoting the ships, like you're really buying one for your own garage... Thats pretty clever!

    FSX on Steam

Yeah I saw the reflections on the water. Still, when you play FSX seriously, you have to use several expensive addons (PMDG for real aircrafts, REX for nice skies and better airport textures etc.)

12,49 Europe :D I couldn't find any new features despite the multiplayer matchmaking system...

    Elite: Dangerous

I played X2 for ages couldn't get along with X3... Still waiting for X:Rebirth to fall to a reasonable price. I loved the plotline in Freelancer. It was really exciting. The X plots are in contrast dull and boring and stupid. Back to ED! What about the systems? Are there nebulas and so on? Edit Just watched a video with one... still, the systems look kinda sterile and artificial to me... Perhaps they have a christmas sale :)

    Elite: Dangerous

Question for those who have the game. It looks to me like there is only one type of station and when I watch videos from the game all of the systems kinda look the same. Is that true? Because I'm looking for a Freelancer successor for like 10 years but Freelancer looks much more diverse to me...
