Hey there. Sorry for the delay but I have been busy at work on this tour of Europe. But have had a few days off since I went to MAKS in Russia… What a crazy airshow… (crazy country! Like nothing I have ever seen before. From the crush to get into the trains (saw one guy get his leg mashed) to the hyper security and mad “carnival†atmosphere, this is one crazy event! Well worth it though. It was a very difficult airshow to photograph: Shooting into the sun, a crowd barrier made out of grumpy soldiers and people trying to madly defend the space for their family picnic at the front of the crowdline and the runway and display line was a long way away… 70-200 f2.8 + 1.7x lens was just not enough. Anyway here is a preview of a few of my favourite shots… Many more to come! Hope you enjoy them I came a long way to get them! Oops. They are wonderful Ranger Bob! Very well composed and executed Sniper UK, I was in a grandstand with 1000 other photographers with much bigger lenses than mine...hehe... I have spent 6 days of last week at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in the UK (Sniper looks like you took some good pics mate). I was there for three arrival days, 2 public days and 1 departure day... Bloody awesome week! Instead of making the pics very lo-res to fit on this board, I am going to try this clickable thumbnail thing... What do you guys think? Tovarish those photos are amazing. Well Done! Very sharp and well composed Looks like a groovy gig. SniperUK2 nice flower shots mate. What did you get in the end? Re: the current VR/IS vs Wide aperture debate going on here... You are both right... If your subject is moving, VR/IS wont help you much... but if its low light you can get arty motion shots easier with sharp backgrounds etc. I have recently bought a 70-200 f2.8 VR lens... Best of both worlds!!! I cant wait to use it at an actual concert... I am in London at the moment, and went to Natural History and Science museums yesterday... I will post some pics soon I was going to go to the Duxford Flying Legends Air show this weekend, but the weather is forcasr for real bad, and the combination of extra security / central tube derailment yesterday / tour de france etc I might just hang out with my friends and have a few brews... I am off to RIAT for a week on tuesday so I dont want to 'Aeroplane' myself out too early... Also my VISA's and Itinery for the MAKS Airshow in moscow have come through! Boy just you wait until early sept when I get back NZ, I am going to totally post this board full of russian aircraft...! P.S. There is a rumour that there might be a BlackJack bomber coming to RIAT...

Ranger Bob: Great pics! A good trick for concert shots is to set your camera on spot meter , - 1 ev , and meter off the face, scratch board of a guitar etc so that way you get them properly exposed and the back ground all moody, plus you can have your shutter speed a little faster Tovarish: The third shot is off the hook! How did you do that? Sniper UK: Is that some one placing an earth line to the tail of a big aeroplane? I am confused... Great shot AfrographX: Nice photos. Good use of DOF. Very Naughty-cal... Thats not really funny is it...

The wargame photos are awesome... Airsoft you say? Those weapons look very real. Anything remotely realistic is illegal in NZ... Makes sense to me, But imagine most people here would disagree... As per usual, the last song of soundcheck is done with the PA turned off, so the band can hear what the monitors might sound like when the venue fulls up with “self-propelled organic audio absorbersâ€â€¦ I usually try to turn this into a photo opportunity with the SB800 as a remote flash.

This is one of the bands that supported us.

I guess they don’t call it the Sunshine Coast for nothing…
