ArmA and ArmA 2 Joint Terrain Project - Baucau, East Timor
jamie_c replied to OChristie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Would have been fine if you asked once Ollie, but you're a persistant little bugger and you know it, you just don't stop... take this dancing banana... as long as your computer is functioning and there's power to your system it's likely he will dance forever if he remains on screen. That's how you are with asking for shit you're not entitled to. You're so persistant I had to report you for it... with regards to SDS, that wasn't anything to do with me... I was shown a link to the site, next thing I know you got stomped on. I can't find anything that's not on google, and especially not if I'm not looking for it. Google is like a little tin hat, it protects me from the bad peoples. I simply see it as that simple, I honestly don't care if you made a timor terrain, good for you, people might wonder where the hell timor is... I suggest a map of the world and a bit of back story. But I sure as hell stress to you not to even remotely refer to me again because I don't care until other people point out what you're doing. Jamie. -
ArmA and ArmA 2 Joint Terrain Project - Baucau, East Timor
jamie_c replied to OChristie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
No actually, right on topic because your words in bold and red in your post refer directly to me, so much so that I was playing fallout 3 when they were brought to my attention by someone half the world away. The fact you're a thief and a fraud is secondary to the fact your terrain is a rip off, you harassed me into the ground about operational terrain areas for the ADF, and yet still the people responsible for making those terrains public have not acted. All fun and games for them putting videos on VBS2.com and then telling the world who I work for, I have to deal with little shits like you. Jamie. -

No you haven't moved on, you still e-mail about once a week begging to get back in. C'mon Ollie, I'm here now, you posted comments to my blog, so lets get it on son, let's go! You are the fakest sorry sack of crap I have ever come across in my life. Jamie. -

jamie_c replied to OChristie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Why don't you just name me Ollie? You're the one who breached the BIA EULA and made a sub-standard copy of an official terrain, you chose Baucau specifically to get a response from me, well here's my response mate, your terrain work is crap. None of it has seen use in military circles and out of all the terrains possible on this planet you chose a patch of dirt that has already been done. I mean why beat around the bush? surely you've got the balls to name who you're talking about? Oh that's right, you're a child who's parents bought VBS2 for him. Let's see, unqualified child launches a fake company on the internet, called Saturn Defense Systems, offering one on one training in MOUT through the employment of VBS2, then decides to argue with an experienced soldier over weaponry, ring any bells? oh that's right it was YOU... OLIVER CHRISTIE. Fraud comes to mind there. Oh and downloading encrypted VBS2 content not for your key code and attempting to reverse engineer it, that's highly illegal for most of the world's population. Jamie. -
Lads, Grow a set of nuts. If you bought the GERMAN version from GERMANY you have to expect it to be localised for the GERMAN language (Deutsch). You have no right to demand or expect BIS to patch this version for English or any other language. I bought the German version without expecting an official English patch, but I couldn't see the logic in rewarding 505Games for delaying their release in Australia. It's still not released here and is still a long way away. If you're too stupid to see sense, you can BUY the official english language "patch" from 505games or their suppliers. Or keep quiet and maybe the BIS developers will reward you in return for peace and quiet, I know I would, I've only just read this thread and you've already annoyed me, I'm off to kill something in AA3. Jamie.

3D-Real time editor
jamie_c replied to TiGGa's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
A lot of it looks like a direct copy from the VBS2 OME/RTE interface, everything operates pretty much the same except the need to place a centre then a group to go with it, that's definately not a VBS2 thing, at least not in the versions I've been exposed to. On the whole glad it's in A2, I went back to using VBS2 today and sprinting felt like it was in slow motion (same with ArmA :\), and I couldn't reload while moving, so it looks like I'm only using VBS2 when I have to. Now if they fix the bugs there might be some forward progress on the horizon! Jamie. -
I should be taking the plunge this week if my back pay comes in to buy a TrackIR 5. I have a TIR3 but feel like it's time for a change as I'm getting a new PC, I don't usually change out my peripherals with each new system, but for TIR I will make an exception. Hopefully I wont have to suffer on my current spec for too much longer (the PC, not the TIR3, which is still good). Jamie.

@Choum: The language patch that is most common (i.e. the one I use myself) has not in anyway adversely affected any genuine copy of A2, nor can it. It is simply a replacement of the original files, all the creator has done is rewrite the stringtable.xml files in the PBOs and repacked them. The more you say otherwise, the more people who PM myself and others talking absolute rubbish. If you're having serious issues with A2 like messages popping up about illegal copies, or something else wrong, a reinstall wont hurt you. If you are using mods such as noblur, I recommend using mod folders to ease fault finding should your copy have problems, e.g. \ArmA 2\@noblur\Addons in the case of Kegety's noblur addons. Also I strongly advise against putting anything unofficial in the ArmA 2\addons dir, however this works fine with the EN language patch. Jamie.

The appearance of the "fat" stars needs to be modified under NVG, their apparent size is increased when looking at them directly and given that I have used the stars to properly focus my NVGs in the past, they're usually no bigger than they are without NVGs. Actually with NVGs you can usually see a lot more stars than you do without, it's fairly impressive to say the least, until you realise you're either covered in dust and haven't showered for weeks or you're freezing your bits off. And someone please make a telescope addon for Mr. Gustaffa here :bounce3: Jamie.

.paa plugin + photoshop work with Arma2?
jamie_c replied to Baron von Beer's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Kegetys, Thanks so much mate, really appreciate your efforts on your tools and everything else. I've already retextured a few BIS infantry models (after editing the ODOL P3Ds by hand) and the PAA plugin works fantastically well! Although honestly, not surprised coming from you. Jamie. -
Unable to alt-tab or switch programs
jamie_c replied to evilnate's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
The appropriate command line switch is -window If you need to reference commands, type one in an init field or similar in the editor and hit F1, you'll get the full comref entry, plus an example you can paste into any text field. As for fixing your alt-tab issues, honestly no idea, sorry. Jamie. -
Veteran difficulty map coordinates bugged
jamie_c replied to wursthase's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Ok, more info, this doesn't seem to be linked to any particular game mode, difficulty setting or otherwise over here. What does seem to have an effect is changing the UI size under the video options, in advanced. Setting it to Normal for me shows the top and bottom elements, but they're not readable as you can only see half of the text. Only apparent in 16:10, 16:9 seemed ok. Jamie. -
Veteran difficulty map coordinates bugged
jamie_c replied to wursthase's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Experiencing it here too, now that it seems quite common I'll take a further look and get back to you hopefully. It may just be tied into something else, unfortunately. I think I'm on a 16:10 aspect ratio at a lower resolution than what you're running. Jamie. -
LC, Keep in mind that I'm running Win 7 Beta (really can't be bothered transitioning to the RC). Your results may vary, but as you said it's finding a balance, right now for me I balance between A2 and VBS2 as VBS2 brings the money in, A2 brings the fun. If you find a good driver, wouldn't hurt to post the results here to help others mate, just a suggestion, and post what OS you're using too! Cheers, Jamie.
-
LC, I am running a similar system to yours in almost every detail. My driver version however is 181.72, I've heard 182 major works as well. There have been several users having issues with the latest nvidia drivers, but not too many are making noise. Additionally I've found users with core i7/GTX295 are having more serious issues such as constant CTDs, so no, you're not the only nVidia user in the world with issues in A2 :) EDIT: I suggest rolling your drivers back incrementally if this performance is a major concern. Cheers, Jamie.

Arma2 Patch 1.01 (beta/final) installation problem
jamie_c replied to Dulli's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Dulli, Please back up your user-profile data, generally found under My Documents\ArmA 2\ in Win XP, and under Documents\ArmA 2\ in Vista and Win 7. Following this my best advice to give is to uninstall ArmA2 completely, this will ensure all corrupt data is removed. Restart your PC just to be safe. Next reinstall A2 just as you installed it the first time. Finally, install 1.01 Patch Final to this copy of A2. Hope this helps, this should be your last resort. Viel Glück, sollte dies Ihr letzter Ausweg. Jamie. -
Woodshock, If you're using language patches, for now it'd be a good idea to copy the original patch PBOs back into your A2 directory as the A2 patch process will stuff them up. BIS is unlikely to provide support for these patches btw as they didn't get released by BIS, yet appear to originally have been their work. If you're not using an non-german language patch, please post what version you were at before you patched, and the current version according to the bottom right of the main menu, e.g. 1.01.XXXX as this will help anyone like Maruk here give you answers, or raise the issue with the devs. Any errors that came from patch installation could be handy as well. Cheers, Jamie.

MP fast rope script addon
jamie_c replied to norrin's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Norrin, ACK on the VBS2 script, no rush from me mate, I'm enjoying A2 now, especially after showing off high command and watching the bosses reaction LOL. Looking at using your fastrope script in a demonstration scenario, will let you know how it goes. Cheers, Jamie. -
Morphicon/Metaboli Invalid CD Key Issues
jamie_c replied to aussieterry84's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
What you guys are basically saying is that BIS is responsible for the contents of my posts as it goes live, effectively my content on their site, right here. Metaboli was a distributor for the game on behalf of Morphicon/PeterGames. As such the content distributed by Metaboli belonged to Morphicon/PeterGames. You shouldn't be contacting Metaboli for MP related issues if you've got beyond the install/activation phase, which you have, you're in-game. Your issue is key authorisiation for MP, who's responsible for it? who knows. Boggy, you should be ok, many of the German population under 40 seem to speak english quite well. You can use Google's translator if you have any other issues, but include both the translation and the original English text in your communication. Here's a webform for support queries of this nature, translated via google (it's not on the english site: http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http://petergames.de/Kontakt.56.0.html&sl=de&tl=en&history_state0= Jamie. -
One thing that really bothers me
jamie_c replied to welcome to hell's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
If you think about it, asymmetric warfare (counter-revolutionary/guerrilla warfare by other names) has more legs in this engine given the ability to converse with the local population and their ability to turn on you. However, think of the situation like this, the Chernarus campaign does start out as asymmetric. Initially you're fighting insurgent elements and additionally militia. Now think about the placement of the country that is the setting for this campaign, if you place it in Europe, there's a strong possibility a nearby nation state will get involved, especially with a US presence. Take the Iraq war for instance, many middle eastern nations see Iraq as a staging area for US aggression, as a result, many insurgents have come from those particular areas. That is how they choose to do business, a country like Russia on the other hand could take the US on head to head in conventional ops under the right conditions (I know Americans will disagree). They can appear sympathetic to the Insurgent cause and use them as extra man-power. Given the close proximity of Chernarus to Russia itself geographically, this is not an unrealistic response. Do you think Canada really wants the US in their back yard? or even Mexico? It's like that annoying neighbour that always invites themselves to your BBQ. On the other hand, if the campaign remained wholly asymmetric in nature there'd have to be an unrealistic Achilles heel in the players arsenal or elsewhere for the Insurgency to exploit. The enemy's strength is quite literally your weakness. In the Iraq context the weakness for US and coalition forces are IEDs, in A2 you could say this type of threat is "unfair". IEDs by nature are things you don't expect, they're extremely hard to detect in the first place, that is why they're effective. Jamie. -
MadDogX, You make the assumption I'm referring to campaign issues, in fact I'm not, I'm talking about A2 running on a Core i7 920, GTX 295, 6GB DDR3 and crashing within 20 minutes of start up under normal operating conditions and even on the lowest settings. I'm talking about people rolling back drivers to recommended versions both here and elsewhere and experiencing strange optical effects while still experiencing CTDs. I am also talking about M1A1 Abrams tanks doing aerobatics by popping 30ft into the air and doing backflips, landing on their turrets constantly. The campaign for me is a non-issue, I'm not really a campaign player, although I have enjoyed playing it coop for something different. Some of the errors I've seen in RPTs point to problems inside SQF files packaged with A2, others point to more serious problems. Some I believe are drivers or OS compatibility issues. In some cases the users are running Win 7 64-bit RC, given this is an OS in development, I don't expect BIS to adjust for this right now. However XP and Vista users should expect more. As I said, for the most part BIS have done exceptionally well, and this will be a solid product when it is fixed. There is no denying that, and the commitment to May 29 for release may have been out of their hands long ago, these issues may be unforeseen. I am guessing you're not familiar with David and Goliath, where a small man brought down a giant, same concept here. Personally I'm wondering when VBS will transition over to RV3... may have to send more beer money to get an answer to that question ;) Jamie.
-
I've been a fan of BIS and their products for roughly 7 years, since I first got OFP, the first time (I bought the game 3 times just because I kept breaking CDs :\), I am also a proud customer of the VBS product line and I work with VBS2 on a daily basis, however having said that I'm not going to rush out and claim we've got GOTY 09 material here. The simple fact you literally have hundreds of people with dramas immediately after release suggests a significant deficiency in testing procedures and an unacceptable compromise in the quality. Now before you respond and say I'm angry because it doesn't run perfectly on my PC, I've only had 3 CTDs and experienced a handful of bugs, but no show stoppers. I thought the dramas with ArmA were just bad luck, it is now clearly evident that BIS has agreed to a release time frame that they couldn't achieve, either that or the testers were poorly coordinated. A number of issues I've found so far can be fixed in single PBOs less than 5kb in size and some relatively simple scripting. As for my personal experience, I've loved almost every minute of A2 that I've played, the CTDs came at the worst possible time during a MP session. For me there are a few rough edges, a few things I don't like, but on the whole it has a lot of potential. There is no denying that for the most part BIS have done a solid job. The down side, and this is a big one, is that the people I play with, my mates, are having serious dramas, one has even deleted the shortcut until there's a decent patch, I am reading through his .rpt files as we speak here and trying to find an early solution. I understand a lot of you are the hardcore true believers, but don't be so fanatical that you give BIS false confidence or any ideas that this product is final. It needs work, be honest. Jamie.

Morphicon (petergames.de) ArmA 2 Download Released
jamie_c replied to OChristie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
In your e-mail you should see a line starting with "CD-Key, Multiplayerschlüssel"... following that it looks something like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX . Should be in bold, in the same box as the download links, just below them. Jamie.
