    Hardware and settings for ArmA

Thanks for the quick reply! The 8800 is a little out of my price range, so I'd like to stay with the 8600 if possible. On the other hand, would it make sense to swap the 8600 for an 8800 and buy a slower cpu? I heard Arma is fairly cpu intensive, so this might not be the best idea

    Hardware and settings for ArmA

Hi all! I'm thinking about getting a new pc for Arma, but I've been out of the market for a while and I have no idea what's hot/what's not. Would a Core 2 Duo E6600 with 2GB RAM and a Geforce 8600 be able to run the game?

    Addon Research Topic

    >>Smiley Nick Wikipedia has some information in English about the JGSDF and their equipment. You can check it out here. The official JGSDF page also has very detailed information about their equipment, but unfortunately this is only available in Japanese. You can navigate their equipment page by selecting a category on the left and clicking on the pictures. I can provide you English translations of some pages if necessary. *edit* Here's a list of all the transports I could find on their page. Some vehicles like the Type 89 have both a gun and a troop compartment, but I have not included these in the list since you seem more interested in normal transports. Troop transports: Type 73 Type 96 LAV HMV 1/2t Truck 1 1/2t Ambulance Motorbike (reconnaissance) Equipment transports: Type 99 3 1/2t Truck Oversize Transport Hope this helps!

    PC Gamer ArmA Preview

I should advise everyone to remember that it's a preview and not a review. Remember also that most previews are blindly optimistic about a games strengths and are strangely silent about any flaws or bugs that may appear. Maybe they assume that all these issues will be addressed before the official release, but as experienced gamers, I'm sure you all know how true that is...

    Armed Assault videos

That RTS mod looks absolutely awesome! I'm sure my friends will be impressed when I show them the new capabilities of the engine! Will it be possible to integrate this view into the commander interface for CTI mods? I'm sure it would make command and control much easier Oh, and sweet choice of music for that fast insertion video! You guys fly like a bat outta hell!

Armed Assault is missing quite a few basics

I'm totally with DeadMeat on this one. This guy brought a fresh opinion (god knows we need more of them) to the forums, and you guys start a witch hunt, calling him clueless, an idiot, and a troll. Put your pitchfork and torch down for 5 minutes and learn to treat each other with respect. You owe that to every member on this forums, no less this guy because he enjoys other games. That aside, some of his suggestions may sound a little strange for ofp dieharders. As he rightly pointed out, we love the ofp design philosophy and gameplay, and usually reject any ideas that aren't congruent with these basic elements. I, for one, wouldn't support weapon kill notifications, as it would provide information that a battlefield soldier would never be privvy to. On the other hand, some of his suggestions are no-brainers. A key bind display? Great idea! If you look back at some old ofp reviews, you will find that nearly everyone was impressed at the key bind card that was included in the box. Server options? No problem there! If these functions could be programmed into the game, it would go a long way to easing the learning curve that the new community faces. Which, as it so happens, is exactly who our new friend represents. I conclude with a simple message for forum veterans. What sort of fruitful discussion can you have when no one disagrees? Diversity is the source of all great strengths in modern times, and our forum should welcome it, not reject it.

    Armed Assault videos

Hi Dslyecxi! I've watched all your TrackIR videos, and I am very impressed with the device. Thanks to your help, I'm merely steps away from dropping out of university and abandoning a life of luxury just to play Armed Assault and roam the forums all day! But before I do, I have a few questions. I noticed in your latest video that there was a slight delay between your head movement and motion recognition in the game. TrackLag, if you will. Is this simply because the two videos are unsynchronised, or is there a noticeable lag in the game, too?

    Cold War Rearmed

Does anyone remember that BIS first planned to include the CWC campaign in ArmA? Well, the OFP campaign may have not been released with ArmA, but someone in BIS is keeping the idea alive. Check out this page! http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Cold_War_Rearmed Basically, BIS is planning to start a collaborative project (with the community's help, I suppose) to convert the original campaign and all single player missions into ArmA as an addon. OFP:E data will be used as the basis for the project. Participants will submit material to a central database, and after several stages of conversion and testing, it should be released as an official addon! Assuming the project is successful, it might be followed by Resistance Rearmed. No explanation required. I guess OFP hasn't kicked the bucket quite yet. Better strap that helmet on and get to work, meat-heads!

    FSM File

I just read the article draft in your Sandbox, CrashDome, and I found it concise and thorough. Your experience at editing is reflected in your writing skills! I don't know much about OFP editing, but it seems that FSM will make AI modeling much easier and more intuitive. Soldier mods can now come with complete rules of engagement matching their respective doctrines!

    Sahrani map!8

If you look at the scale shown at the bottom of the map, you'll see that southern Sahrani is about the size of Nogova. That's to say nothing of the north, which is at least 2 times larger again. Personally, I'd like to see a flyby video (when someone finally figures out how to fly) showing us the terrain features of Sahrani. Czech gamers, to the rescue!

    Armed Assault is GOLD !!!

I think the reaction to new ArmA reviews will tell us a lot about the maturity of the community. If the reaction to OFP: E reviews are any indication, then we should expect further baseless accusations of unprofessionalism and industry corruption, and even a healthy dose of consumer stupidity. Oh, and don't forget about those no-good publishers! This does not bode well for a community that prides itself for being above the nonsense of other groups. Our forum has come up with many complicated theories explaining why ArmA isn't accepted by the wider gaming community. The theories range from publisher-reviewer connections to the changing market, both for publishers and gamers. Some theories reflect a real shift from single to episodic content and the commoditisation of gaming, and are actually useful in explaining some parts of the ArmA story. But many of the suggested reasons are simply absurd, and border on conspiracy theories. Take one popular theory, the changing desires of gamers, for example. It is often said that gamers are not interested in complicated games, and would rather a simple shoot-em-up. This is used to explain why many gamers, and thus (it is assumed) gaming sites show no interest in ArmA. While possibly true within some groups, it stands at odds with other facts. If anything, you could argue that the modern gamer is in general more complex than at any time in history. He fights in clans, he uses mods, he spends an inhumane length of time at the computer, and he masters complicated sets of rules to gain an edge over his components. This is evident if you compare your average BF2 player to a Quake player of the late 90's. This is also true for other genres, such as RPGs, real-time and turn-based strategy games, racing games, and even other simulations. Least of all, it certainly doesn't explain why the "most complicated" OFP sold so well. I don't intend to turn this into an essay, but I will leave you with one thought. Knee-jerk reactions serve to help no-one, and will only result in the embarassment of you and the community. If ArmA sucks, then so be it. If you think it's great, well that's fine! But don't fill up the forums with garbage, naive posts in an attempt to sling mud at popular targets. It's getting really boring. And stupid.

Another thing worth noting is the American flag arm patch on the soldiers. The patch has been reversed, as promised!
