keep the ingame interface as "quiet" as possible - nothing distracts more than a ugly HUD, look bf1942 for example it has the ugliest in game hud i ever saw and make it so you have options to customize the hud which gets displayed and which not. youve already done an excellent job in ofp1 - one big plus of ofp 1 was its nice hud, almost nonexistant but informative and it is possible bcs of fading out info to have a view most of the time with NO hud at all, which adds a lot to the athmosphere

just give the objects some weight.. mustnt be ragdoll details but it would be nice
-
and a death cam which replays the action when you were hit

im sorry i cant read trought the whole thread so things may have been said what id like to see improved in ofp2: better weapon efx, explosions, damage models, flying debris a ironview like for example in call of duty which actually shows how you take the gun up and look thru the ironsight but keep it black/dark like in ofp1 and bis, have a look at far cry, in this game when you get hit you get a blurred black/white image for some seconds. would be nice to implement it, so that you also get this if for example a heat round explodes near you

things im good at: shooting with m16/ak at medium/far distance, commanding infantry AI things im mediocre: shooting with rpg, sniper, other hand weapons, commanding tanks things im bad: close quarter battles, flying, night missions

hmm.. but you cant go in as driver/ gunner because you will lose command over your squad then.. only thing that works with a AI tank squad is if you are commander, or completely alone in your tank. or do you know some trick how not to lose command as a driver/gunner?

hello, please i need some advice from good tankers when i have 12 ai and 4 empty tanks i order them into the tanks.. no problem.. now to the remaining tank: if i go commander in that tank i can only give commands with the movement keys to the driver and he NEVER does drive how i want him to if i select ALL ai and click on map/surrounding terrain to go there all tanks move but mine stands still..? wtf if i go in as a driver i loose command of my squad..and some other random AI gets the command ? if i go in as gunner its the same i loose command.. so how do you do it? is there a fix, a trick or a workaround? please help me

ok after i checked the search page again and changed 1 month to from beginning i found this helpful link: http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/ with the following tips: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">I can't command a tank for the life of me - help! OFP NG reg Chris G., a.k.a. Miles Teg<GD>, has submitted the following tips to help you control you tank mates and hit the enemy hard: In order to take full advantage of the tank commander's station, it is usually best to turn in as that allows you to rotate a full 360 degrees. In addition, if you hit the "V" key, this will give you the powerful telescopic sites on the commander's periscope view that allows a fairly wide view and more importantly allows you to zoom in and out and thus target enemy vehicles at great distances. This is done with your numeric keypad's +/- keys. To target an object, simply right click on the object. To untarget it, simply move the crosshairs to an empty spot of ground and right click again. To target another target, just right click on the new target. Once you've targeted an object, you can order your gunner to fire at it. Simply press the left mouse button and usually after a second or two he will fire. Keep in mind that you he will not fire until the active weapon label (HEAT, SABOT, etc.), on the upper left part of the screen, turns from red or yellow to green, meaning that the round is ready to fire. Also wait until the gunner has his sites on target before you give the command to fire, otherwise the gunner will miss the target. You can tell where the gunner is currently aiming at by looking at the little white dot on your view screen. This indicates the gunner's point of aim. You will not see this white dot if the gunner is pointing in another direction. But when you target an object, the gunner should swivel the turret to engage that target and you will see that little white dot stop on or near the target. If the weapon is loaded, then hit the left mouse button and he will fire at that target. While the gunner is engaging a target you can swivel your sites elsewhere in order to locate and target other enemy objects that perhaps may be more of a threat to your tank. Another problem people have commanding tanks is ordering movement from the commander's position. If you are playing a campaign mission where you are the tank commander and someone else is the platoon commander then just let your driver follow the platoon commander's orders while you concentrate on finding targets for your gunner. However, if you are in complete command of a tank or a tank platoon you can give movement orders in a variety of ways. The easiest way is to select either all your men or just the driver and then hit "1" (MOVE). Your crosshairs will show a square around it. Simply left click wherever you want your driver to move. You can also use the arrow keys to move in all directions. You'll have to hold down the right or left arrow keys until the driver turns to the desired direction. To command your driver to go fast-forward, press on the forward arrow key and the SHIFT key simultaneously and release the keys. Unfortunately there is a bug in the game where sometimes the driver just ignores you. This affects other vehicles as well, not just tanks. If that happens, try doing the same thing except, instead of left clicking on where you want the driver to go from your view, go to the map screen and left click on the map wherever want the driver to go. If that still doesn't work, unselect every one under your command, then left click again on the map where you want the driver to go. The driver should now move to that location. If you are commanding more than one tank, simply select all of them, hit "1", and then hit "1" again to order them to fall back into formation. While all this may seem tedious at first, with a little practice it all becomes second nature and before long you'll be commanding tanks like a pro. i tried it out and it works, if you are commander and NO ai is selected now you can click on the map and everyone goes there.

in ofp i find that law is a bit too strong, it should kill an apc 50% of the time and not 100% and there should be random survivors of crew passengers

read my other post, next time i use smiley only advantage of bf42 imo is that you can jump in multiplay for some minutes for quake action in vehicles - IF you have the right ISP; all other aspects go to OFP hands down and to add: i talk of modded bf42, like desert combat or forgotten hope, basic bf is simply not worth playing, even online.. but who do i tell that
-
i was just kidding..if you want to play a true classic, mostly single player or coop with some friends; play OFP - on a modern machine it looks still amazing with aa and anisotropic filters, gameplay&athmosphere rock if you want a multiplayer quake/ofp ripoff then play bf1942, but be prepared to d/l hundreds of megabytes for patches/maps, gigabytes for mods and a crap client side hitcode unplayable with anything lower than broadband, plus electronic art general ripoff with useless addons, just to mention bf vietnam..

get bf1942, its definately better game

if you want ability, res is a must have, like mspencer said perhaps you try to get it cheap.. i got mine used for ~15 euro and im totally happy with it its worth the money.. not because of the res campaign, its because you are able to play the stuff (fdf..etc)

hi, im playing fdf campaign currently and fiddled around with the mouse sensitivity settings. i now have a setting with lower y sens than x sens, as i somehow think it is better suited for most aiming situations. but i dont know.. what do you think?
-
yes.. what gfx card do you got ? possible that the download was screwed with a bad fonts pbo ? did this prob occur only on fdf mod or in general ofp? did you try some different d3d settings like mipmap? multicoloured lines sound like a major prob in graphics driver and or ofp/fdf files..? if you want you can try my fonts.pbo to be sure, its from finmod/dta/fonts.pbo and it works for me download here: http://www.chickensclub.de/mic_stuff/fonts.pbo

hi there, just finished res and played cwc 2 years ago cwc: nice campaign, i like especially the first few missions where you are under command. i didnt like the aircraft missions, and the tank ones were rather mediocre to the storyline i lost overview and forget. res: hmmm.. nogova looks a bit like fantasy island, first three islands were better. hardest mission by far is the ammo low one where you attack the convoy and have to tell the ai NOT to shoot the trucks... after that i was surprised how easy it was, if you found the right approach which was mostly clear. i didnt care about collecting stuff and always had plenty of all last 3 missions i almost did the same.. sneak up to town alone as a sniper, ai in bmp and t80 waiting behind.. collecting targets, then i sniped rpg guys and told ai to advance. liberating the capital city of nogova was rather hilarious, after the easy taken fortification all infantry from the city ran up to me only to be mowed down by t80 and bmp... last mission was easy too.. hardest moment at the beginning to shoot the 4 spec ops incoming, then i ran up that huge hill and sniped the base empty.. after some minutes some russian tanks come up driving around and finally stopping at the end of the airstrip (instead of defending the base?) so i was safe to go down.. picked up a pk and emptied the magazines on the aircrafts only to see me stupidly killed in the next cutscene ..:) good thing is i now almost completely understand the command menu and resulting ai behaviour
