  1. <span style='color:maroon'><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>MCAR Engine</span></span> version 0.931 This is what the Project MCAR was initially aimed to be, a fully stand-alone engine in which the AddOn makers could tap into with relative ease to produce their own MCAR powered vehicles.. MCAR Engine is aimed at the AddOn makers, the average gaming-joe has little or no use for it until MCAR engine 1.0 appears (or vehicles utilizing this or the 1.0 engine).. This doesn't mean you shouldn't download it and see what it has eaten though.. This is aimed at 'professionals', so we will not be answering questions about the use of O2, "what is .p3d?", etc.. This makes the old MCAR Beta 3.xxxx's obsolete, and all AddOns using those old codes are encouraged to be updated to use this new engine. Support for the old Project MCAR powered AddOns will be discontinued. The two original MCAR vehicles are provided as an example how to implement the MCAR Engine, so again, no complaining about the quality of the vehicles (textures/models/etc..). MCAR Engine compliant Sa-8b Gecko and the M151A1C jeep are also vailable.. The reason why we release this in pre-1.0 stage is that we have very limited testing capabilities and we hope you will be able to help us there.. This is not a beta per-se, and AddOn makers should not be shunned away by the fact that we still call this 0.xx instead of 1.0... So we urge you AddOn makers to try and implement this into your own AddOn and give us feedback on the documentation etc.. The aim is that you could do it all by yourself and we would not need to 'interfere' that much.. <u>We also need this to be tested in MP. So all MP-pro's, please lend us your skills.. We are looking for a bit more in-depth MP test 'reports' than just "it doesn't work.."..</u> History: 0.931 Debugging (MCAR_debug = true) : - the output max speed for SAM missiles is the max effective one the missile will have, and no more the one in vacuum - when the missile is destroyed the time, distance from shooter and missile's speed are printed on screen New features: - _MEXH parameter (only for SAMs) can be a function or an expression. This will allow, for example, to simulate boosters with different propellant than the main rocket engine's. Or to simulate booster effects having _MKGS constant (example: ..._MEXH,"if(_tDiff<2)then{2500}else{1700}" ) - it's also possible for _MKGS to be an expression too, instead of only a function: for example, _MKGS,"if(_tDiff<4)then{8.5}else{4.1}" . In this case, _MINT must be set to "auto". This allows easy implementation of dual thrust engine, without recurring to the automatically generated function: the main advantage is the simplicity of the calculations involved (no arc tangent and logarithm to be evaluated, just plain algebra). Differences from previous versions: - regarding SAMs missiles, the max turning rate is effectively the one specified in stringtable.csv, rather than being higher, cause before it was calculated using max missile speed in vacuum. To compensate for this, at lower speed (<50% max speed) the missiles are more maneuvrable than before. 0.91 - Vertical launch of an AA missile using PROPNAVG guidance code kept going on to the zenith instead of turning towards the target -FIXED - Multiple launch positions for AT missiles using the 'tiltable missile' code (AddOns with the _PATH parameter set to "\MCAR_engine\psy_mcar_scripts\at\MCAR_getAmmo_3b.sqs") 0.9 - A new variable is usable in stringtable.csv (AA units only): _GMK This works only for lead collision and proportional navigation guidance codes and if enabled (true) makes the missile loose lock if between the shooting vehicle and the target happens to be a hill. Setting this variable to true will slightly worsen the performance (but very slightly). - A new global variable is present: MCAR_engine_version This one is useful if your addon needs a newer version of MCAR engine than the one currently installed in the user's addon directory. Examples how to use it proficiently will be given in a new version of the docs. - AA codes optimized a bit 0.8.0.1 - Initial release Downloads: - MCAR Engine 0.931 (.rar file) - MCAR Engine documentation (.rar file, docs in .pdf format) Documents updated for 0.931.. Example vehicles Utilizing the AT codes: - HMMWV with TOW Launcher (.rar file) Utilizing the AA codes: - Sa-9 Gaskin (.rar file) And the Jeep and the Gecko: - SA-8B Gecko - M151A1C v 2.0 And as always, read the readmes. IMO it's better now, if you have something else than small soapbox speakers getting in any vehicle required manual volume control because otherwise your house windows would blow out..

Still no SLi Support 4 ArmA?

At least the few latest drivers (currently using 163.something) has had both ArmA and ArmA demo profiles.. Unless I have somehow gotten them from somewheres else.. In some older driver profile the SLI was disabled, now it's AFR2 forced which I find peculiar because I'm running two 7900 GTs (256Mb) in SLI and according to the SLI graphs AFR/AFR2 doesn't do pretty much anything (except cause horrible 'mouse lag' and/or horrible graphical glitches especially with the fades between views).. Using any of the SLI modes offers no performance increase what so ever compared to running the game with single card, at least not for me..

ArmA Rated one of the HARDEST GAMES OF ALL TIME

Been there, done that Loved that game.. Always hoped that some small game studio would be kind enough to bring it to the 21st century, without losing the original feel of course....

    SEC Blacklist

I bet Al-Qaeda is actually causing the Global Warming.. Has anyone measured how much co2 an AK frees into the atmosphere when fired World Police is now telling other who to trade with.. Brilliant.. Why isn't US itself on that list? I mean McVeigh did blow up a bomb there once and he was employeed by the US government when he was in the army so (by this logic) wasn't the US government supporting terrorism when they paid McVeigh his salary, and therefore anyone trading with the United States should be on that list..

    1.08 Troubleshooting thread.

There's something that this patch broke a bit. Now the game is extremely unstable if I use maxmem more than 512.. If I use 1024 the game will crash within seconds of playing (10 seconds of the main GUI background 'movie' was enough) and the game will freeze the whole PC, quite badly. It actually crashes so bad that for example the signal from the gcard to the monitor disappears.. Maxmem at 768 and the game runs a bit longer but the same thing happens eventually (within 1-2 minutes), happens both in full-screen and windowed mode.. Preceeding the crash FPS starts to slow down until the game is a complete slide show (like 2 FPS) before it freezes completely.. The 1.07.5157 beta was stable at maxmem 1024, only time it froze the PC was when alt-tab was used too extensively (apparently the memorysurface 0800eblah blah error was replaced with the freeze).. I don't want to make any more tests because once the game crashes the HD is quite active and I don't want to damage it, as the only way to recover from that crash is to reset.. Then again, this isn't really that big of an issue because I never noticed any performance gain in using higher maxmem.. Just to mention, no voltage drops or heat issues, both CPU cores and the GPU ran below 50 celcius (no temperature spikes either).. XP Pro (32) 2Gb Ram AMD 64 4200+ X2 AM2 Ass M2N-Sli Deluxe nForce-570 GF 7900 256 No oc, everything with latest drivers Other than this crash issue everything else seems just fine for me

    Bullet holes

I don't think it means actual holes, more likely it means the similar kind of 'craters' you see when you shoot on the ground..

    105.5 Bug???

Actually yes, just not with the AI 'jam fest' (didn't have any AI wondering near there).. What also happens from time to time is that all of the alive crew bails out and the tank is left 'in gear' and spins around if only one of it's tracks is damaged (can be seen when you damage the tracks of a moving tank)..

You are referring to sa8gecko (from MCAR)? And no, the TOWs are still unguidable.

PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

Well shute ( ) That sure is a weird one.. Funny actually, when I experinced the same exact problem the only reason why I found that solution I posted was because numerous people around the world had experienced the same problem at the same time.. The drive (DVD in my case, that fix I suggested is from 2002 and it's for CD drives) did disappear suddenly later on but that same fix fixed it again..

You could try this: Make a new text file in notepad and copy/paste this, and then save the file - Now, re-name that file to something like fixcd.reg - Backup your registry just to be safe (using regedit, run from Start -> Run), or create a backup point (that should work as well) - Double-click on the fixcd.reg and answer OK to the question whether you like the registry to be edited. The drive should 'appear' now, you may need to reboot first though. I had a similar problem not long ago and this solved it for me.

    Patch 1.05 impressions

I have not had a single problem with ArmA since patching to 1.05.. I haven't got much experience with 1.04 because the game finally arrived to me a day before the 1.05 release so I'm comparing everything to 1.02.. - No weird CTDs anymore (apparently). - No performance issues, FPS stayed the same if not a couple of FPS higher (no noteable FPS increase from 1.02 -> 1.04 either). - The new 'iron sights' thing is absolutey brilliant (also the fact the sights were more zoomed in already in 1.04 was a great improvement). - No waiting after exiting the map view, all good stuff.. - The AI is much much much more intelligent than in 1.02 - the HDR is 50x better than in 1.02, at least I have not experienced any flickering or the weird 'day-when-looking-up-night-when-looking-down' stuff.. - And the list goes on and on.. Only bad things that I can find - There is still some texture loading problems when you start in a vehicle cargo, it can take a few seconds until your team mates look like people instead of weird sculptures.. And sometimes some vehicles don't get 'LODded' properly and look like boxes for some time (can take very long) until they reach their correct form. But this doesn't really bother me that much.. (And this usually happens when you are in the cargo of some vehicle and switch to 3rd person view and look around at other vehicles and one or two of those look like boxes).. If it happened to me in RL that would worry me a bit though.. - The vehicle AI And this is actually quite annoying. I'm not into the flying machines so can't say about that but when it comes to ground vehicles (at least the wheeled ones) and the AI driving them on a road it is just redicilous, at least the formation 'Column (Compact)' seems to be very troubling for the AI, even more so if you add 'live' objects like civilians who just stand on the side of the road a few meters away from the road 'edge'.. Neither one of those negatives ruin the game for me, the latter is just frustrating at times. I have now bought two copies (morphicon and 505) and absolutely have no regrets at all from buying them.. And never had..
  16. Like Denz points out, yes there is ArmA section at OFPEC. The turorials are not outdated, they work for OFP, and as you might imagine changes made in ArmA of course render most of those useless for ArmA... Same goes for the scripts.. As for poor translations, well, there is a large part of the world where english is not anyones first or even second language (as you can see from this sentence english is not my 1st language either).. You are very welcome to join the OFPEC staff to proof read any upcoming resources if it bothers you that much I don't know how exactly you expect there to be whopping amount of resources for ArmA when a big part of the community has received ArmA like 2 weeks ago.. Things have to be learned and discovered first until they can be taught to others.. Please understand that I'm not trying to flame you or anything like that, it's just the slight odor of ignorance in that quote that caught my attention..

    Health system

Isn't that basicly the general idea of dying? Anyways, I agree to some extent, the damage system is not as good as it could be but I guess it's not doable to change it for this game at this point..

    Horrible Performance...

I'm sorry but that's not very believable results PC: AMD +4200 x2 (AM2), 2Gb ddr2 (800Mhz), GF 7900GT 256Mb ArmA: everything on normal, aa off, af low, viewdistance 1200 FPS is about 20 on very foresty areas (like in the 'convoy ambush' sp mission) but usually runs at 25-28, except near bushes, can go up to 40-50 on more deserted areas... You say things like these on the pages back: Well, I'm running the game on SATA 3gb/s which runs about 200Mb/s (can't remember the cache) so myth busted already ..

    Horrible Performance...

Actually it was 15", and cost like a mofu about 7-8 years ago when I purchased it

    Horrible Performance...

And what makes you think you can't set a TFT to run on other resolutions.. I have run mine from 600x480 (or what ever it is) to the native 1280x1024 without any problems, no melting monitors etc.. It's just that the image quality is optimal on the native resolution, the others look a bit crappy.. But with CRT all resolutions look crappy

    Crash to desktop

Slight correction to my initial post.. I was not using maxmem=1280 but 1024.. If I set maxmem to 1280 the game will get very unstable and can CTD almost immediately after starting some mission (or campaign, etc..) without any error message.. ARMA.exe stays active in task manager for ages and fails to write the rpt file correctly, looks like it fails in the middle of it System specs are the same apart from the game (german DVD) being patched to version 1.02 + 6thSense english mod..
  23. h -

    -maxmem -nosplash crash

Yes, I was about to correct my report on another CTD thread, but it seems that if you go over maxmem=1024 the game gets very unstable.. If I set maxmem=1280 (I have 2gb of ram) the game will CTD within 20 seconds up to 2 minutes after starting the campaign or some mission (or preview) with no error message, the ARMA.exe stays active in task manager for ages, the rpt file is not 'filed' correctly, it's like the game fails in the middle of writing the rpt.. Use maxmem=1024 and the game is steady apart from very very very occational crash (if none), or the crashes that alt+tabbing will eventually cause..
  24. h -

    Crash to desktop

Now that you mention it, in my rpt I have pages on end (dozens) of one error message, these seem to be the most 'popular': (why does it say arcade even though I use veteran is beyond me..)
  25. h -

    Crash to desktop

I also experience CTD problems, but they seem to be only happening if I alt+tab out of the game even once, the more alt+tabs the sooner the CTD.. If I alt+tab out once and the start playing some mission (or the campaign) I can play say 10-15 minutes before a CTD.. I do get an error message, there's two of which the first is the most usual: If I don't alt+tab the game seems to run just fine without any CTD.. Here's one 'Cannot create system memory surface: 8007000e' in the rpt: System etc.: AMD +4200 X2 nForce 570 SLI (chipset) GF 7900GT 256Mb 2Gb 800Mhz DDR2 Winblows XP media center edition / sp2 DirectX 9.0c ArmA German boxed version 1.01 with 6thsense english language mod maxmem=1280
