  1. Hey guys, been a long time fan of OFP and I love ARMA. I just wanted to make a post that I thought could be used as somewhat of a modders resource. This is not at all to bash on ARMA as I love it. Some background on me, im 28 and just graduated from Ft Benning on April 18th of this year. Spent 2 months at Ft Carson Colorado and am assigned to 3rd Brigade 4th Infantry Division 1-68 Combined Arms Team as an Infantry Man. Im currently with my unit in Iraq, Charlie Company, Cop Ford Baghdad. Our AO is Jamilla right next to Sadr and a couple blocks right around Ford. At any rate, my time in the Army has opend my eyes considerably to some things about OFP and ARMA as far as realism goes. Running out of breath - I think this should be a big factor in a realistic combat game. My combat load is around 60 yo 70 pounds. Ive got my IOTV, ACH, 14 Magazines, M4, Water, knee pads, NODS, Medical kit, and if its a raid usually the Breach Kit. I cant run very fast and for very long without being very winded. The motion in ARMA just seems very fluid, like your in shorts and a tshirt. The battle rattle makes getting into and out of vehicles somewhat of a chore too. All in all, I think there should be a noticable difference in how well you run, crawl, etc based on your loadout. After a 50 meter sprint in my gear, i am sucking. Crew Served Weapons - The 240 seems way to user friendly as far as moving it around. Its a tuff job in reality. Its heavy, the ammo is heavy. In ARMA it seems very arcady. You just run around with it, shoot it looking through the sights standing up(this would be pretty damn difficult) Running with it, we tuck it under one arm and sort of cradle it, then run. So you are not ready to fire as soon as you stop. You run(as best you can) and when you are ready to set, you flip the bipod down and go prone. Firing it from the kneeling or standing without something to brace it on is really not practical at all, you wouldent hit anything and it would just be physically draining. The m249 not so much as the 240. Our SAW gunners have the short ones with M4 looking stocks and M145 Elcans. None of our gunners carry the full 1000 round combat load. The 2 in my squad I think both carry 700. 3 drums on IOTV and the 100 round pouch on the weapon. So I think the weapon your carrying should also effect your movement and firing stance options as well. Gotta get off time is up, hope Im not making anybody angry with this, Ill post some more later.

    Bullet hole effect

Wow, this is awesome! thanks Solus!

    Operation Bulletholes 2

Holy hell! Paragraphic 1 that is fanTASTic! You just made my year with that news. Solus is a genious, seriously BI should hire him because SLX for OFP is spectacular. Alright, I think im officially at ease now on the bullet holes. If Solus is on it, and we know his reputation speaks for itself. Then I can just sit back and wait:)
  4. Alright, I know I had a thread going. However I just wanted to start a fresh one because im so passionate about this. The overall goal is Alot more bulletholes in ARMA that can last for as long as user wants. So potentioally thousands of bulletholes, etc... Im just posting some renditions of how awesome it would be. These are just photoshopped screens(Im sure that will be obvious) Heres a rendition of a truck after a 240 BRAVO opened up on it. Heres a rendition of a guy with a few holes in him, and a shot up building. The overall best thing, would be different sized holes per caliber. Maybe just 3 sizes, small(.223, 5.45x39, etc..) Medium(pistols, .308, 7.62x54R) Large(12.7, etc) Bulletholes for Metal, Wood, Glass, and People. I wish I knew how but I am clueless. I just know it would be fantastic.

    Bulletholes?

Wolfsblut_ me and you definatly are on the same frequency! I to enjoy the after the action "what the hell happend, and why?" as much as the action itself. With just a hole on people where you hit em, you could go back and interpolate what all went down. For example, lets say you trucking down a road in a car with 3 of your hard charging soldiers in it. When a tree line 100 yards off the edge of pavement erupts with small arms fire and your car is put out of commision. So you jump out return fire, and you and your soldiers kill a couple of guys in the woods. Alright now you notice that 2 is down. He was in the passenger seat, arggggh. So you stroll over to the right side of the car and see several holes in the side. One right in the passenger window, then you can look in and see that 2 caught one right in the right clavical. Poor 2's collar bone was a bullet magnet. Then you notice a hole in the steering wheel missing your hands by inches! That would be fricken awesome.

    Bulletholes?

Hey guys, glad to see some replys here. Actually im thrilled! Or should I say potentialy about to be having potential to be thrilled. Ok back to the bulletholes. I dont mind so much how they look, nothing fancy they can be the same no matter what they hit and ill be happy. Just a black dot with light grey around it maybe? What I would really like is to be able to control the fade time of them. So that "potentialy" har har, in ARMA we could have some pretty good virtual marksmanship going on. Now Solus's genious SLX mod for OFP enlightened me that this would be pretty damn cool. Now I have used SLX mod, and I made the decal texture non transperent and I must say I do enjoy the hell out of it setting up virtual firing ranges. I just find a good map, Arabia http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=10410 for OFP is my favorite. Then I set up some targets, such as. Paint cans, bottles, pop up targets, etc.... Down range then shoot at them. I can see where im hitting using binoculars and i increased the zoom of them so I can see farther and be able to see my bulletholes before they fade. However back to the problem at hand, they fade in about 10 seconds and as of yet it doesnt seem able to be changed. So now im hoping that in ARMA maybe the holes will be capable somehow of staying for whatever time the user wants. With the adjustable sights mod, and bulletholes I think it would work. Virtual firing ranges. Even possiably multiplayer shooting competions. Then other fun things, perhaps watermelons that bust open, all sorts of fruit for that mater. Metal targets that go PLANG!!!! Glass that shatters(bottles, etc) Clay pigeons, if shotguns ever work well. Im sure someone could make a clay pigeon shooter that launches clays up and then you shoot at em. I know I sit here and talk about all this, and I wish I could just do it. I must admit I have contributed nothing and ask for others to do all this cool stuff. The truth is, I look at the .CPP files and the scripts and it might as well be hyroglphyics. I do think bulletholes that last alot longer(howeve long user wants) would be a really cool addition to an already great game.

    Operation Bulletholes

bump, i just cant give up roadkill:) Im still screwing around but i cant make em stay, or cant really do anything to em. It is still fun with em, even fading though. I just gave the binocs more zoom so I can zoom in and see where im hitting before they fade.

    Bulletholes?

Any hope or prayer of bulletholes in ARMA that last as long as the user wants? With the adjustable sight mod, and solus working on SLX for arma, potentially ARMA could have some serious potential for virtual firing ranges.

    Operation Bulletholes

Alright i have a new angle. Does anyone know how to edit the properties of footprints and tiretracks? Like when you walk it leaves footprints, they fade away. Can we make them last forever? Can we change the time it takes for them to fade, i mean. This might put us one step closer in the bullethole holy grail.

    Bulletholes

Ok, i searched and didnt see any topics any time soon relating to this so I wanted to start one. I would really, really like to see working bullet holes in ARMA that can be made to stay as long as the player wants. Holes in everything, the ground, trees, trucks, etc... Anyone have any freash ideas. This was a bust in OFP, so far at least.
