    Will my computer play AA?

BigSouth: As others have said, that videocard wont do the job. You probably have a motherboard that uses AGP port for videocards. The newer and faster cards all use PCI express format, meaning you and I with AGP motherboards cant use the newer cards. However, some fast new cards have been released still using the AGP format, and some are quite cheap. I recently bought a Radeon X800 XL, which will get the job done on low/ medium settings and still look good from what I can gather, thought I havent played AA yet, being in Australia. I got this card for $A 240 = 90 pounds. There are also some really solid cards you could get such as the AGP version of the X1950 pro - this would kick ar*e. Also, it may be worth getting some extra RAM. I have a very similar system to you, and when I got my new card, I also ordered an extra gig (1000 MB) of RAM for A$80 = 30 pounds or so i think, damn cheap. Have a look on ebay for 1GB DD400 Ram, you wil find a good deal. With 2GB RAM, and a X1950 Pro (if you get one), the game would look damn good! ------- Which brings me to a lil question of my own I have. My system is p 3.2, not sure of the specifics, but dont think its dual core (bought around march 2005). 2GB DDR 400 RAM and Radeon X800XL I know that I will be able to play the game ok, but my question is, will I be able to have all of those beautiful post-processing effects and HDR and still maintain above 30 FPS? It looks so damn good, dont know if I could live without them. If not I might have to buy a new X1950 Pro, but I only bought my current card around3 months ago...

Great, that sea looks really good - thank god BIS had the sense to implement waves - I hate way the water in other games like Far Cry never changes from calm. But, these pics still dont answer what I was asking about , my question was not about the particle effects, but the Pixel Shader effect of creating a slip stream wave building up around the front of the boat - ripples...Does that happen? Cheers

Great shotz all, but I have one question - One the old ArmA website they had this pic sometimes of a PT boat in the water, and the water was kind creating a great looking slip stream around the bow. Does the water actually do that, does it look that realistic? (Using nice PS effects..?) There is nothing greater to look at in a game than water that looks great and flows like reality, but that pic of the Atlantic Ocean does not look all that wonderful...

    Track ir

Funnyguy - Damn good Idea! That is actually a really smart idea - have mouse 3 toggle between free look and normal - then those of us without track IR still would not have to take our hands off the keyboard / mouse.... Of course, this would not be for everyone...So you could map keys as you like in options.' NOTE to BIS: too late I guess, but please make free look a toggle, rather than one key for on, one for off - that would make things alot easier and more flexible. Also, I just voted in this poll, but there should be an option "I would like to get trackIR - but too expensive" or "maybe I might get track IR" rather than I definietly want it or I dont care - they are too extreme..

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

Yeah, maybe its the case that they think ArmA will be a bit too 'serious'. Fine then, Im sure when it comes out it will show them that there is a market out there for serious war simulations (other than flight sims). Any how, we shall see...All the best to you BIS

    Any 2006 Game 2 E3 coverage?

Man, Ive been watching Game 2 info for over a year now, looking forward to it much more than AA (which will still be good) but I come late to these forums, and now all the links dont work. Anyone know where I still still look at some good pics/vids of vegitation. By the way, why the hell have we heard nothing about game 2 for over a year now in terms of press releases etc? BIS please tell me you are not going to drag it out and out in the same way you have done with other titles....(even so I will still love you guys!

    Tank simulation in AA

What I really hope that AA has is a more efficient unit script. Why? I am currently trying to make a mission where there are constant dynamc tank battles raging back and forth, but this lags my computer unbelievably! I have around 40 armoured units, from what I can gather talking to others, the most you can get away with without mega lag is around 25 armoured units on the map. I know there are few missions that have this many in them, but it would be nice to havesuch massive battles....

    Mission ideas

Funnyguy, I think you have some good points. We all want realism, and CWC was close, but when you think about it, if you REALLY want the experience of a soldier, from what Ive read, 'war is 99% bordem and 1% terror'! Frankly, most of the time would have you doing guard duty where nothing happens, you might be there for eight hours, and all you do is let a few people in the gate, never once raising your rifle. And then later on, if you've been bad, maybe you'd get a mission where the objective is 'clean the toilet block', yay! Would a game like this sell? Somehow, I doubt it. CWC came as close as any game to being realistic, ie, there are long periods without enemy contact, just patrolling etc, and at first this is fine, as one marvels at the ambience of the game and the virtual world BIS has created. But after a while, periods of nothing become quite boring once you feel you know the gameworld. I think this is great that BIS created a fairly realistic depiction of the soldiers experience, but lets face it, most people do not want to play a mission where there is half an hour of patrolling without enemy contact, maybe a breif firefight, and then another half hour of nothing. Personally, I do. I think, like funnyguy said, the best option is to have two campaigns, or two play modes. Maybe 'realistic' and 'action'. In actions mode, you would know that every mission is going to contain, well, action. In realistic mode, you may spend forty minutes out doing a patrol and never see an enemy and then come home mission completed. What would REALLY up the suspence though, is if enemy patrols were realistically placed. Eg, you're out in the forest, maybe 10kms or more from the nearest enemy base, but you still happen to run into an enemy patrol, in this way, you could never let your guard down knowing that, just as in real life, an enemy may be anywhere. In Resistance esp., you knew you could totally relax, and not have to even bother taking cover or scanning around, because you would only ever encounter an enemy patrol within 300m of an enemy base - too easy. Anyway, like all of you, I want more realism, but this must be balanced with exitement, because their needs to be a way to sell copies to the masses, unfortunately! TWO DIFFERENT PLAY MODES/ OR CAMPAIGNS PLS BIS!!!! PS, Hi people, first post, been hanging out at Codie's forums. Might start hanging where the real OFP2 lives now!
