    Fighter planes

Ofp is the best Infantry sim (into which i include light vehicles such as jeeps and trucks) ever - hands down - no argument. Ofp is a very sub-par Armor Sim (no barrel stabilization - laser rangefinding etc... on modern tanks) but will do in a pinch Ofp is the absolute worst flight sim ever (most could eat a floppy disk and puke a better flight sim) The helicopters make sense in the game, they are slow and dont traverse an island in several seconds - the A-10 and Su25 even make sense as their primary task is often CAS. But dont mistake the flight models and controls of OFP aircraft with those of a real flight sim or even one that came out 10 years ago.

    Choosing weapons ?

Thats my fault I asked a friend who was already on the forum to do a search for comments on my program - the Mission Assistant, and let those who were having problems with the last version know there was a new version out. Anyway - he apparently took it to heart . Sorry about that one post would have been enough.

    Mp init.sqs questions

I am having some problems with a MP mission with all 4 sides (west, east, resistance and civilian). I have markers and objectives for each side and they need to be hidden from the opposing sides. Basically my init.sqs file looks like this. ;-------init.sqs--multi-------" ;-----------------------------" goto format["%1", side player]" #West" goto "end" #East goto end #Guerrila goto end #Civilian #end ;-----end init.sqs-------------- with the hidden marker code and objective codes between the side names and the goto end line. MY PROBLEM: This seems to work only for East and West - both markers and objectives for the resistance (guerrila) and civilians will not hide. Any ideas? cheers

    Briefing trouble

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Wadi @ Mar. 25 2002,19:39)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><h6>TEXT</h6> didn't work. When I tried to enable respawn with the Mission assistant, it didn't work either!<span id='postcolor'> Wadi I'm the author of the mission assistant - email me directly with your questions and I'll try to help you out as well as I can. Briefly. To get the handwriting text <h6> whatever text you are writing </h6> sometimes the Mission assistant places the <p></p> tages inside these codes and that would supercede them which confuses me. Add another bug Sounds like you discovered how to insert markers Debriefings should work provided the end conditions in the mission are met and they use the same numbers (i.e. end1, end2 etc...) if the numbers are different then there may be no debriefing to display. Which type of respawn did you try to use, I added all the official respawn types to the Mission Assistant even though it is well known that some of them (i.e. group) dont work or dont work well. If you are using respawn for CTF missions - make sure the correct respawn marker is placed. Now for a shameless plug..... I am working on v2.0 of the Mission Assistant (well I have for a long time actually) it will do multiplayer briefings so that you can have briefings for each of the four possible sides in each mission. It also will have an editable database of weapons so that you can add new (addon) weapons to the briefing screen. It also will provide limited support for the init.sqs (hiding of markers and objectives) - I'm hoping to add sound support as well. cheers::

Is anyone going to boycott bis add-ons?

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Major Fubar @ Mar. 05 2002,02:07)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I agree, what's wrong with UFO's. giant robots etc., especially in context. Here's a clue: if you don't like a mod, dont install it. With full modelling tools available people could do awesome total conversions like Predator, Aliens, Starship Troopers, Stargate and many other sci-fi military genres. To simply say modelling tools shouldn't be available because it might lead to some mods that you dont like personally is totally ridiculous.<span id='postcolor'> To simply say that modelling tools should be available, because it will allow you to make mods that you want is equally ridiculous. All that aside, in context, there isnt really anything intrinsicly wrong, wasnt really my point (which after reading my post was clearly not explained) my point is these are mods that BiS may not be interested in having associated with their game is all. BiS has every right to determine if the modelling tools are available or not. What I would hate to see is some doo-fuss walk into a game with his plasma rifle vs. my measly MP-5

Is anyone going to boycott bis add-ons?

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Gorgi Knootewoot @ Mar. 04 2002,15:05)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">BIS does a lot for us gamers, so i don't boycot a company that improves their product regular. I can't wait 'till Resistance comes out, and i will buy it!!<span id='postcolor'> I agree, if only so I can continue playing with the core group of players I do now. Frankly, It seems to me that a premature release of O2 and visitor would have a greater likelyhood of damaging the games reputation than improving it. Someone used Counterstrike as an example earlier in the thread, it seems to me that from what I have read on the various forums..that Counterstrike has become something of a farce..there is rampant cheating and overpowered items all over. Frankly, I would be very surprised if after the release of these tools that we wouldnt see, UFO's and F-22's, giant robots and submarines, plasma rifles and terminators stalking about Malden. Who needs it? None of these are necessary for an Infantry combat simulator. Frankly how many aircraft are required? how many armored vehicles are necessary to create an immersive game. This game is not a flight simulator, even the crappiest flight sim surpasses the capabilites of this game, the same fairly holds true for armored vehicles (albeit less so). The game is excellent, it has its problems like many others, it is by no means the buggiest released as has been mentioned earlier in the thread. Does anyone here know about Pool of Radiance, Ruins of Myth Drannor? - this program needed a patch so you could install it properly. It needed a patch so that when you tried to Un-install it - it wouldnt erase your hard drive. BiS Undoubtedly handled it poorly, and they should apologise for stringing along those people who were so counting on its release. But they dont owe us squat, we have the game, the game works...maybe not as well as some might like. Frankly I think that even the release of the modeling software will only slightly delay the demise of this game. all games have shelf lives and then something else comes out.
