Well usually when there is no respawn, you'll have a nearby medic. In which case the current game mechanics work just fine. No need to call in helicopter or hmmv and take them back to base (their game would essentially be over anyway) Evacing someone just to have them magically heal in 30 seconds at base, and having them dropped back into battle truly isn't realistic. I like ACE's healing system and I think that's as far as the game should go with it. If there are enough dedicated realism players (40+) playing coop on a mission that was meticulously crafted, I would love to see evacuations (due to the level of coordination it takes).
-
I always hated crawling after medics. They always seemed just out of reach. :( But I have to question how incapacitation could be implemented in a fun way in coop or PVP that wouldn't detract from the emphasis of the mission. Most people are not interested in evacing people in a public server. You would need a highly specific realism mission to be made to take advantage of it. Otherwise people will just choose to respawn rather than lay there for 10 minutes waiting for a ride. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be awesome to have actual medics in the game come and rescue me or others, but this type of gameplay fits into almost no game made to date.
-
What exactly would be the gameplay purpose for "incapacitation?" They have it in I44, and it's an okay feature, it gives medics a little bit more purpose. But generally it adds very little to single player, and only a little bit of extra fun to coop multiplayer.

wait... You say if someone gets shot in the arm they should have an "aiming penalty" that's been in the game since OFP, along with getting shot in the legs and you can't walk... and you aren't always forced to crawl or have bad aim, sometimes you get lucky. I've also shot people in the chest in the game and not killed them; certainly not "all or nothing" as you state. So I really don't see what you are asking for. buuuuuut I could see a few small tweaks just to update the damage model from OFP.

There is actually a website that will make the mission for you, don't recall the URL, but it's on this forum somewhere.

What do fortifications mean to our soldiers?
Montanaro replied to Pundaria's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I used to have that problem as well, but there is a command where you can make them "stand/kneel/prone" Can't remember the exact line though, something like this setsomething stand/prone That's how I used to make guys stand up in bunkers and fire. -

Usually when I make defensive missions, I'll make sure that there are no defensive squads. Everyone is by themselves so to speak. Sometimes I'll even set a command for them not to move, but I haven't done that in a while. -

Didn't OFP have the vehicle thing? I remember a few times being able to take enemy vehicles and driving through enemy lines (even right past soldiers) without being fired on. But if you stopped too close to them they would "figure out" that you were an enemy.

My life long dream has always been to fly (be it in a plane or helicopter). And I've obviously always had an interest in the military. I'm 99% done with my bachelors degree in Psychology and I'm considering joining the Army as a warrant officer and taking my AFAST with the view of being a helicopter pilot. I'll be 24 in October. I was just wondering if there were any actual pilots on this forum, and if so do you have any advice or stories?

Thanks bud, I've hit that forums a couple times in the last couple weeks but haven't made an account yet.

1st. Behaviorism isn't really the term you are looking for, but I doubt English is your 1st language so I'll let it slide 2nd. Humor helps 3rd. Timing helps I'll say "whats up" when I get on servers, but I don't get bent out of shape if people don't reply. I realize they are playing the game and may not pay attention or have the time to say something. I also realize most communication is done through VOIP now. If you want to have a positive atmosphere I suggest you go to the same servers and make yourself a regular. Also be funny, and don't always try to talk to everyone. If I'm riding in a chopper, I'll switch to the chopper channel and say something goofy and relevant to the situation or something way off the cuff to see if I get a bite. I know these people have nothing to do but sit there, and are more likely to say something back. But you also don't want to be the annoying twat who spams chat with meaningless drivel. Sometimes just asking people what the situation is and what the plan is helps, but again it depends on what type of server you on and the mentality of their players. If I'm hosting a house party, and some guy I don't know comes over and yaps and yaps and tries desperately for friends, I'm more likely to think he's a dork and throw him out for freaking out everyone. If he comes and just tries to go with the flow I'll be happy for him to come to my next party.

Sorry, I had interpreted your post as "Well modders were able to deal with the limitations anyway and still make those mods" -

1. Melee: Hardly a solid feature in any mod 2. "Proper" bolt actions: A. For years, the actual bolt actions never worked in mods. B. I don't recall any bolt actions actually cycling in mods. Maybe for a couple sniper rifle mods, but for I44 I don't think that's in. 3. Towed Weapons have been around a long time and was fairly easy to implement (clunky sometimes) 4. Horses: Do you remember the OFP horses? ARMA was almost out by the time someone made a horse (more specifically water buffalo) that had "moving" legs. 5. Railways: Another feature that took a long time, and it's hardly mainstream or newsworthy Unfortunately you proved my point. Not having game features and newer technologies already in game can limit modding. Almost all of the items you listed took years to actually release for public use and almost all of them are extremely clunky/goofy. -

The problem with "going back in the past" is that it limits the amount of technology that BIS can put into the game that modders can piggyback off of. FLIR in OA was a pretty big deal for most people. Not many modders have been successful in creating it since OFP. Who knows what modding benefits will come from TROPHY, kinetic weapons and whatever else will grace the game that will open the functionality door for future mods that otherwise would be locked (and would have to be lock picked)? -
I'm going to hate a bit here. If I were to spend 3,500 on a PC, my g/f of four years would kick me out of the townhouse... Hell I'd kick myself out... but then again, I'm just finishing my degree and don't have money. But if I did, I'd have to think long and hard before committing 3.5k to something that will be obsolete in 5 years. The only thing I'm looking at now is the new AMD X8 and a mobo to go with it, and that'll be 500-600ish...

the problem with your complaint is that the anti missile defense actually exists and has been used in combat and as for railguns, yes they exist, but it's hard to say when they will be adopted. Those two things are no where near being -

Yet you shouldn't look past games as a source for learning and skill building. What is the most effective way to learn? Reading a book, or doing by experience? I'm not saying I have the answer. But being able to view objects in real time 3d and how they generally behave can be useful. Also some games (Real time strategy like Total War franchise) can open the door for historical learning. I've been playing games for years, to say I haven't learned various things from them that I wouldn't be able to otherwise, without significantly more effort, would be a lie. -
Does anyone here not give a damn about titles? "Arcade!" "NO! Realism!" The game is what it is, I don't believe OFP ever minced words, it just gave you a sandbox and toys to play with. As long as ARMA continues to build upon the foundation of what OFP was, I'll be more than satisfied.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about the storyline. You could argue that almost any scenario they come up with will be unrealistic in some manner. I don't think sending a special forces team to an island to disrupt the enemy is that crazy (we really don't know the entire story right now). But, again, IMO a rouge russian general invading a couple tiny islands in the Adriatic and having the USA retaliate nearly starting WW3 is a bit out there. As for your argument about "future weapons" I think this has been roundly addressed in previous posts. Certainly there is a distinction between soon to be adopted equipment that is based on known scientific concepts/field tests and scifi plasma rifles and stealth hoverboards. Again, how does replacing the m4 with a realistic future alternative hurt gameplay? The gun may be shaped different, it may have a slightly higher ROF and use a currently unconventional caliber. That certainly won't change the gameplay or completely betray realism. I'd have a much bigger issue if BIS pulled a "BattleField 2142" -

what's the point of joining quickly, when you are going to spend the next hour crawling in the mud only to get shot in the face by a sniper 3/4 of a mile away? -

Oh, like a bandit group of russians invading some piss ant islands off the coast of croatia nearly starting ww3 is soooo much different than a nato like force trying to hold an island in the middle of one of the most important sea trading routes... :j: But I'm sure your bitching and moaning is going to teach BIS something. Where did a say it was a "life" sim? :j: you are right about the "mil-sim" part though :o even though I don't really consider it a "simulation" But tell me; what makes a mil-sim? Is it gameplay, or is it as you indicate, weaponry? Explain how the USA not having the m16 disqualifies a game as a "simulator" -

you must have have hated OFP then... But if it bothers you that the game is set a few years into the future, don't buy the game. But I'm sure you will anyway and slobber over it like a good sheep. :j: and for the record, I have no idea where people get the "Military Sim" thing from. Oh wow, they made VBS! You can also run around on foot and get in vehicles, that means ARMA is a simulation of real life! Some of you people are ridiculous...as if a bullpup rifle replacing the m4 and m16 is going to ruin gameplay...
