I think he was pointing out the laziness more than anything.

I don't think addon makers would appreciate BIS taking credit for their work.

Nearing perfection but needs enemy SHOUTS
Montanaro replied to l mandrake's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I hear them yelling occasionally and yelling after getting shot. You just need to have skills like mine to get real real close. -
not realistic at all, but in certain scenarios for custom missions it could be neat, like in movie oriented missions.

SSDs=Laptop designed You really won't see many improvements other than faster load times and a bigger e-penis. Now if you work with data a lot, and need to work on audio/video they can be handy. Really no sense in spending 150+ dollars on a fancy drive unless you like flushing money down the toilet.

It takes a lot of practice. It seems like a simple task, but it's not (sort of like landing on an aircraft carrier). Oh I just got to land on that big target? Your first time you don't even think of all variables. But it takes practice, and like frederf (btw superb post!) said it will take you some time until you touchdown. The more you do it, the quicker and safer you'll be and you'll be landing on rooftops in no time. Just don't get frustrated and don't rush it.

I think it's best to let sleeping dogs lie

I had to do most of the missions solo, especially the first, since my team likes dieing. first mission took forever because my team was constantly losing half or more men at the airport. I literally had to kill most of the troops myself to save my stupid team.

Artillery is really in need of a counter
Montanaro replied to Lethn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
You don't have to have the artillery hit you with fragments for it too kill you. The majority of people who die from artillery barrages die from the percussion of the shell. Their brains will fly into their skull, internal organs are smashed etc...even people inside bunkers, trenches, or foxholes. At times these fortifications can worsen the effects since they can channel the shockwave onto you. -
naw, it's quite underwhelming. I only played it to polish my game since I haven't played ARMA1 in forever.

It would have to regulated that's for sure.

I just realized, doombuggy was the kid who was deathmatching in the zargabad life server. Doesn't surprise me that he wants MW2 features in ARMA. =) btw interesting video. It's essentially like scrolling through the gear boxes, except it's easier and you don't need to be near a gear box. I also tend to think it's a bit cheesey, because it would allow people to switch in the middle of battle. Oh I can't hit him, I'll switch to my acog.

I'm just glad it is in the game in some measure.

Artillery is really in need of a counter
Montanaro replied to Lethn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
 Judging by your previous posts and your logic, I'm going to have to say you are under 16. Please stop posting, and while you are at it, stop playing video games and do more reading. -
jet wash isn't stuck at one angle, it spreads out a good bit. Two engines create a lot of energy, plenty enough to shake you. Think of airplanes shaking houses. I've had a f16 fly a few hundred feet above me once, and it shook me. Also saw two harriers practicing landing who flew over my apartments and they shook everything. Then they turn on VTOL, and I thought I was going to shit my pants (they were easily 500+ yards away too). Planes will shake you.

I'll summarize your post for the rest of the forum who don't want to read your moaning. As I said before, I'm not going to waste my time explaining realism and the "balance" issue, to someone who obviously doesn't have a clue, as is readily apparent in your previous post. ---------- Post added at 03:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:15 PM ---------- Pretty good post. There are plenty of counters in the game and plenty of ways to stay alive. It just takes practice. You can say nothing in war is balanced, but you can make the case, everything in war has a counter. The most realistic military sim on the market isn't going to be balanced like your average shoot em up. That doesn't mean arma is unbalanced or unfair. -

Montanaro replied to Lethn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Just because you die by it and it pisses you off, doesn't mean it's unfair or unbalanced. It just means you like to complain when you haven't bothered to do anything about it yourself. Let's not even venture into the aspects of realism and "balance", because I don't think you know enough about the matter to make it worth my time (and apparently others agree judging by their comments). But please, continue your silly statements like "whatever comments you post, only make me more correct". :j: -
These threads were around before ARMA1 came out. People always want to add features from their favorite shoot em ups into the game. Which begs the question, why are you playing THIS when you want to be playing THAT?
-
I always thought Red Orchestra had good death animations. Sometimes fake, but mostly realistic. However half of deaths were people getting blown to red mist, or taking a frag and losing a limb.

+1 They go limp instantly, with limited bone structure, and no momentum.

Has anyone else noticed that when you are the gunner of this helicopter, that when you aim down the sights, the sights are messed up? I mean when you aim, the ironsights are not properly aligned, the front sight is blocked by the hood on the rear sight.

I actually prefer ARMA system over any shoot em up gun system any day. It's not that hard to read the name of a gun and know what it is even if you have basic knowledge of weaponry. Plus there is a description if you click on it. and why are you in such a hurry anyway? If you are in such a pinch for time, go with your default gun, it kills just like any other gun.

You can use the huey through the editor and custom missions. Recreate a vietnam scenario even.

Enemy can pinpoint your exact location after you set-off some satchel charges.
Montanaro replied to SASrecon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
From where he was standing (you can tell by the elevation and distance to nearest light source (lamp post nearest the tanks) he was near the drop zone, and there are no patrols on that side. The tank crews also start out inside buildings. If you didn't notice he died within 5 seconds of setting off the charges. I doubt some ak74u touting tank crew are going to be able to run outside, look right at him and pick him off. The reasons you've come up with do not explain why/how they picked him off so quickly from such a far range. Simply not possible. -
You obviously knew what you were getting with this game, so why buy it, or why complain about it? The game has never really been marketed for it campaign and theatrics.
