  1. Is it necessary to have Queen's Gambit to participate? I don't have it yet, and as I prefer a boxed copy, it might be a bit difficult to get it by Tuesday.

Haven't played ofp online in a long time, and just got arma working, so if I'll have to buy for the download to play with you guys this tuesday, I will.

Is the PW updated? I joined in on a few games in the summer of 2005, so that's quite a while ago...

  2. Wow, this couldn't be better! I come home for the holidays, haven't tried ArmA since I have a mac where I study, and finally it's working! The last time I tried playing ArmA in the summer, it didn't work at all. I have the famous Vista + 8800 combo. I don't know if it's this patch, or some other patches, but it works! Oh, and I don't know where my CD is, so that I no longer need it is even better biggrin_o.gif

  3. I have a problem with my installation. Arma has a tendency to crash when it has to hit the HD to load some scenery (that's what I think it does). It's very annoying, and if I play the basic helicopter course training, it's reproducible.

I only managed to complete that when I put every setting on the lowest.

I have an e6600 processor, nvidia 8800 gts 320MB. 2GB RAM and Vista Home Premium 32bit. Running the game at 1600x1200 res.

I've tried using the maxmem switch at 768 MB to no avail. What does that switch actually do?

Anyone got any thoughts about what I should do?

  4. If you'd bothered to carefully read my post, you would notice that the points are all inter-related.

In order for the tracker to work, it's going to have to be a managed tracker with controls to reject duplicate or nonsense submissions. Also, to be most effective, addon makers should be the ones submitting their addons to the tracker admins for review, not the admins having to wander through all the different isolated communities trying to scavenge addons and guessing what's the latest version.

What's the problem with using on of the thousands of open trackers already running on the web? There's not much point having every addon on a tracker, as it's much work and it doesn't require as much bandwidth as the official patches. All that's needed is for someone to make the .torrent file in their favorite torrent program, using whatever tracker they want to, and post the link here in the forum. If you are worried that the tracker also tracks illegal content, just host the .torrent file on some free webspace.

Then if enough people jump on to seed, and everyone shares, it will come down in less time than it would from a server. Or even better, those that normally host http mirrors choose to seed the torrent on their servers instead. That's my experience at least.

When the first rush is over, just change to regular http mirrors again.

edit: Here's two legal trackers that could be used:

  5. Some constructive critisism:

Norwegian ISAF units wear smaller ISAF patches on the right arm, below the Norwegian Flag, on velcro tabs.

On their left arm, also on velcro tabs, they wear their batallion insignia, like 3bn or tmbn.

    http://www.phbase.com/marsuitor

Thanks. I'll definitly make those changes in a future update smile_o.gif

If you are going to put in those battalion insignias, remember that CSSBN also have a contingent in Afghanistan.

  6. Anbody know of a Xeon 5000 compatible dual socket mobo with dual full x16 PCI- slots? All I can find are dual x8's.

Are you planning to use SLI? Afaik there is no support for that on the Xeons yet.

Intel's Core 2 architecture Woodcrest-core Xeons (5100-series and 5300-series) offer better performance and lower heat output than AMD's 2200-series Opterons, but due to platform limitations, we stick with Opterons. The fastest available Opterons hurt slightly in performance compared to the fastest Xeons, although in a few applications the advantage of the Core 2 architecture Xeons is significant. Compare your application needs and choose accordingly. For the God Box, until SLI comes to the Xeon, these will have to do.

So, if you need that, stick with Opterons.

Btw, check out the God Box from the Ars system guide. They build a dual processor Opteron, so you can get a lot of advice there.

  7. Now it is backed up on three removable drives and recently on a small external USB drive. As well as by artist on MP3 CDs at some point I will put it all on DVD RW. I do not want to spend hours converting it the special IPOD and Sony Spyware formats which reduce quality anyway.

The iPod plays mp3s just fine, it's a mp3-player after all.

I've got the 3g 20 GB model, it works just fine, but I don't use it a lot at the moment. May replace it with a nano in the future.

  8. Nice specs, beats the crap out of the PC I have access to, but fortunately it's just good enough to play the demo biggrin_o.gif

    Quote[/b] ]Systemanforderungen Demo:

    Betriebssystem:            Windows XP

Prozessor:                    1,4 GHz Inter Pentium IV oder AMD (SSE) Athlon XP (3 GHz empfohlen)

    Arbeitsspeicher:            512 MB (1024 empfohlen)

    Soundkarte:                  DirectX 9.0c kompatible Soundkarte

edit: If I'm reading this correctly, it'll be a new campaign, not the original sad_o.gif

  9. I loved Settlers 2! Do you still have to set up the roads in this one, don't think I have access to a powerful enough PC to try it out sad_o.gif

edit: Watched the trailer, and yes you have to biggrin_o.gif

Is it the same missions as the original? I hope so, as I never completed it sad_o.gif

  10. Besides, you cannot deny that the terrorists ARE hiding behind a misinterpretation of the Koran to justify their actions. If anyone is insulting the Islam, it's the pseudo-devout extremists.

What are they doing that is against the Quran?

The problem with the Quran is that there are so many contradictory statements. So basically everyone from peace-loving hippies to terrorists will try to hide behind it.

Can you give an example, please? In particular, one that relates to the issue at hand?

Nope, can't give you an example from the Quran regarding this, as I believe the part referring to no pictures of Muhammed is in the Hadith. But a quick search on google turned up this.

    Quote[/b] ]
Quote[/b] ]And the Bible is not really any better.

Again, an example would help to understand what you are referring to.

Check out this quote. I'm sure there are similar ones for the Quran, and this is what really makes the problem. Peace-loving hippies will claim peace is the message, and the terrorists war against the infidels.

It would have been so much easier if people could just abandon religion and start using common sense.

I don't see the problem with the cartoons, as they're caricatures, and are not meant to be taken literally, as it seems a lot of muslims and Europeans think. Considering they were printed in September, I find it a bit silly to make a fuss about it now. Of course they were obviously offending to a lot of muslims, but they should understand that it was not the intent, and they can't really do anything about it. We have free press here in Europe, so they just have to respect that.

That being said, religious people should be the last group to complain of lack of respect, as their “holy†books contain a lot of stuff that offends various groups, like homosexuals and women. Really, you've got to clean up your own mess before you start complaining about other things.

  12. Whatever happened to 'Nordisk samarbete'? Or has there ever been one after Kalmar Union?

Judging by what I've read in the papers the last few days, Finland is no longer included in "Norden", there were going to be an united Nordic response to the embassy burnings, from Denmark, Sweden and Norway..

  13. Is it okay to burn a national flag? - Of course! If it's your possession you can do whatever you want with it!

    Are you serious?  icon_rolleyes.gif

Burning a nations flag is an act of war against that country from a political perspective.

I remember a few months ago when a Norwegian comedian (Otto Jespersen) burned the American flag on tv as part of one of his comedic acts. It did'nt take many minutes before the US embassy was in contact with the tv-station and it was all over the news everywhere.

Burning a nations flag is wrong nomatter if you paid for your flag or not.

When I see the Muslims stepping on and burning the Dannish and Norwegian flag I see them as the enemy to Denmark and my country.

Hehe, that's a very Norwegian point of view. You guys are so in love with your flag that it is bordering on the pathological.

Don't label all us Norwegians wink_o.gif I'm in favor of letting people burn whatever they want, as long as they own it or have permission of the owner. When I heard they were burning Norwegian flags, I couldn't care less. But when they moved on to embassies, I got pissed off.

I hope things start to calm down now, as it's just a silly controversy. The images of Muhammed was caricatures, so it's not like they were saying Muhammed was a terrorist by depicting him with a bomb in the turban. But I'm mightily pissed at Magazinet, the Norwegian Magazine that printed the caricatures in Norway, since they were in favour of thougher blashphemy laws in Norway. And now they're trying to say they support freedom of speech icon_rolleyes.gif

  14. Kegetys is right imo. Since Apple switched to Intel CPU's there is no point in buying an overpriced, lowgrade system.

Good engineering, innovative features and let's not forget the OS wink_o.gif

I know you can run it on regular PCs too with some hacking, but that's not the point.

I've got an iBook and I'm very satisfied with it. The software just works, I never shut it down unless I'm upgrading the OS, so with 1,5 GB of memory applications start fast. The only thing I'm missing is the ability to fastly navigate in dialog boxes with the keyboard. That's about the only thing Windows is good at, excluding gaming.

It'll be interesting to see if gaming on the mac will evolve, now as they've switched to Intel CPUs. I know there's some Linux apps that let you play games for Windows. My dream is that I someday can play ArmA on a mac.

  15. I'll join you tonight xmas_o.gif

Same PW as we used in June-August?

Yep the same except that you switch the letters so the first letter is last and the last is first etc, and then you read it in the mirror.

    Gotcha wink_o.gif
