You're right but i'm very sceptic about this game, i feel like they'll screw up everything because of parallel devellopment with consoles .. To me no lean in a game which tell himself an hardcore military sim, it's ridiculous, we're not any more in 2001 .. Is there any new about an eventual sdk for Ofp2 on pc ? Here some "official comments" about the footage from E3 which disappointed lot of people here, me included.

Multiplayer is just one big lagg & horrible to play
dunedain replied to Jackdaniels's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I always thought that Armed Assault netcode wasn't much better than on Ofp but from my 2 days experience on ArmA2 it's unplayable on all servers i've played on. :/ I really hope this can be fixed. -
"ARMA II is scheduled for an in store Date of July 7th, 2009."
-
Concerning the performances, ArmA2 does run as well as Armed Assault on my computer with better graphics, and i think there still lot of room for optimisation. If you loved Armed Assault you don't have to wait the demo. :)
-
I hope they'll stop fixing bugs on Armed Assault after 1.16 final release, this thing is dead. They should concentrate on ArmA2.

Just type alt-getallgear in the armory.

I think that ragdoll has lot of advantages, i'm personnaly tired of seing same death animations whatever bullet is used, seing identical bodies everywhere ect.. and that since i've bought Ofp 8 years ago... There is only two major issues with ragdoll, -it uses much more cpu than animations but isn't Arma2 supposed to be multi threaded ? -it can't be server sided so people who want to hide behind dead bodies can't, but client side ragdoll means too that you can disable it, so people scared of modern physics could just get back classic animations. I'm agree with people saying that vehicle physics and a new animation system are top priority, but saying that ragdoll cannot fit to ArmA greatness, that's real bullshit ... Whatever such discussion always been a no go in this forum.

Arma 2 the last game to use this engine?
dunedain replied to sakura_chan's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
There is 8 years between Ofp and Arma2, Building a brand new engine would mean no sequel until i'm retired "i'm only 21" .. :p As it has been said so many times, modern physics and animation system is what the current engine really lack of, but it doesn't necessarily mean a brand new engine. I hope they'll work for long on Arma2 with expansion as good as Resistance was. -
What's the first thing you are going to do when you get ArmA 2?

I'll install the game then i'll patch it :D -
What does ARMA 2 have that Operation Flashpoint 2 doesn't?
dunedain replied to bloodbomb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I know from vids, engine used and what Codemasters said. Of course nobody here can be sure, but I do think that I didn't take a big risk with these features i've listed. :j: I think so, but if they release modding tools it'll be very interresing. -

MehMan, saying negative things about a game on its dev forum is always trolling for some guys in it .. Just saying what i'm thinking about both game until now, won't stop me from buying Arma2 like i bought Ofp 8 years ago. Zipper5, "i was half joking about muzzle flash" concerning ragdoll if you played Red Orchestra they've done well much better than current animations, same goes for dismemberment, for those games you quoted realism isn't the goal. I'll summary my previous point so I won't hurt anyone, I'll look for Ofp2 but only for its technical part while Arma2 will be as always true to itself, surely too much, but it still comforting on this time, where some good licenses get rapped by economic purposes. -

dunedain replied to bloodbomb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Arma 2 has no ragdoll, no dismemberment "cf Ro", crappy physics, poor animations "especially between hands and weapons cf Ro/H&D2", crappy weather effects, crappy muzzle flash "this last most essential  "... Ofp2 will have all this stuff but it still looks so AAA and casual, reminds me what Ubi done with Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon ... :butbut: -
I would love some mixed European military hardware fighting in countries such as Ivory coast, Somalia, Afghanistan ect.. I'm just sick of this Ak vs Colt thing.

ARMA2 & OA's Steam Thread: All Steam Q's/discussions go here [covered by Dwarden]
dunedain replied to gimpymoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Unfortunaly, you need to first start Steam before launching any game from it, but you can set launch options in it for every game. It's possible to do classic "classic" shortcuts with Steam but they link to steam launcher with an application number, so i don't know if launch options work on those .. US fellows which own Atari release of Arma on Steam may be more help than me. -
The Steam version will be the last anyway.

I remember a video of VBS2 with IR laser working, so maybe it wouldn't be that hard to add such feature to Arma2.

Thanks for you answer ])rStrangelove, I wish everyone would think the same and do it as well. By suppresive fire effects, I mean very loud crack and blurred vision from close bullets, you have no choice but to get down. Not the same as in ACE. I know well Arma, I didn't liked it at first since I was a big player of Ofp, I love ACE but the statement I did in my last post wasn't taking account of what is possible via scripting but of what i can see when I go online and play ACE. Right now there almost only two type of servers, private and Domination games. I don't have enough free time to join a community of players so I can't experiment real games apart from GOL's and ShackTac's vids. Most players and me play on Domination which lack of everything I've listed before. Faithfull Bis supporters, reminded here that everything is possible via scripting and usable via command menu ingame. I know that. The last 5 years I played online I experienced that on OFp/Arma, but what could make this game better would be to have all this by default, instead of heavily scripted missions with systems via command menu that nobody use, and I say that from personnal experience from Evolution maps ects.. About islands, I like them huge it's perfect for coop or cti, but for pvp i would like much more gameplay based maps as Pr which make less big but fit perfect for pvp. Honestly what i've listed in my previous post are the reasons I continu to play Project Reality instead of Arma when I want some PvP, besides a great sandpit Bis could release a multiplayer part well designed, polished which would attrack for sure many players.

Fanboyisme has no limit. Or maybe it's ok, after 5 years, to release a sequel as well bugged if not much than its predecessor..
-
I would like much to see those features in a future expansion of Arma2 instead of heavily scripted/bugged missions with things that average player won't use as it is right now on Arma. Personnaly what i like the most in PR is.. -Squad system, easy to use and as it is on PR hugely enforce teamplay. -Strict chain of command, everyone plays his role. -Suppresive fire, in Pr when you're under fire it's really something. -Coherence of kits and classes, realistic attribution of kits. And even if a big island is great, maybe they should think about some less big maps more gameplay based like Pr does very well without lacking of realism. I don't think that community can answer effectively to this with Arma, it's up to Bis to bring within everyone's reach such features.

privateguba, How can you say so much negative things about a game you never played, only arguing with vids, are you omnicient or something ? About mission making, the big issue is not what we can do with this engine but what is done. I'm sure and it has been demonstrated here, that it's possible to do missions/gamemodes well framed which exhort teamplay in Arma like PR does, but it isn't at all what we can see online. The best would that Bis improves pvp with Arma2, except for "join in progress", they didn't change much things since Ofp ... This community is full of talented modders, it's a fact, but personnaly i buy a game not an engine, so i would love to see something polished with Arma2, since i'll buy this game for its pvp/coop part. :) I don't really understand what occur with Arma, on Ofp i could play in an evening bunch of fun maps "nogova virus, theyhunger", CTF maps "hexenkessel, TNT maps" and a massive amount of coops, but with Arma it's only private games and tacticless domination/evolution servers full of lonewolves ...
-
I didn't want to be rude, i apologize for that i'm just a little upset of what i read, my english sucks sorry about that. MadDogX i edited my post while you were finishing yours with what i like in Pr which could make Arma much better.
-
"whisper" We talk about PR, aren't we ? I'm not a native english speaker so i won't get an headache describing eveything, if you played the game you critize you should understand what in mean by good pvp, specially the teamplay, coherence of kits and classes, chain of command, game modes with interesting maps and objectives ect...

Good pvp.

This video reminds me old promises from BIS talking about Game2, years ago, that would be awesome but somewhat out of range for them.
