Hey there,
I have been playing this game for a while and really enjoy it, but lately it feels like I am playing a team deathmatch game more than Vigor. I think the portable signal detectors may need some tweaking.
The Problem:
Around half the time I get into a lobby I see at least one group of people carrying SG-1s and/or Aur Bars and they often have a bunch of detectors on them making it pretty much impossible to avoid combat with them. I know in theory jammers offer protection from the detectors but you have to be fairly stationary for them to work which means you cannot be looting or accomplishing much while being protected. We have also used the transmitters to try to get them to use up their detectors but since people can double full inventories of the detectors using insurance they tend to take a bunch when they go in.
This has started leading to me and my friends taking a bunker mentality. When we get into a game and see groups that are probably using them and we just hide out in a building and wait cause we know they are going to be coming for us eventually. Sitting in a building all game is not fun for us and, judging by the angry messages I get, not fun for the people who are hunting us. Unfortunately, the alternative of getting frequently scanned and chased down by armored constantly sprinting people is not more appealing to us.
Fix Ideas:
I think the portable detectors have a place in the game but I think there needs to be some downside or counter to them other than a ping that you will hear if you are close to the person who used it. Maybe make it so they don't show an exact position of a person but instead show an area like the air drop, or make it so the person who gets marked by one is always made aware so it's riskier to use them as they know someone may be heading for them. You could try limiting the number you can bring in but that would have the downside of punishing singles and duos, though it would have the upside of lowering the amount of insurance doubling you can do, which I assume is not the intended use of insurance. If you are trying to get people to use more materials, a wearable jammer that would break when you get detected could be a solution as well but that may make for an annoying arms race thing happening between scanners and jammers and would probably just lead to the people coming in with what amounts to radar, armor, and also be unscannable which may just make the problems worse.
Thanks for taking the time to read this I enjoy your game and I hope the feedback is helpful.
