  1. thanks guys wow, cha ching, love the help...thanks for being here.😍
  2. Thanks oldbear for the information. Anything new on the horizon I might wait for?
  3. Based on all the benches and tests run, what is currently the best if you're willing to spend the extra dough? I play a lot of Arma 3.
  4. What's currently the best gaming PC for Arma 3?
  5. I play in 4k using 4K OLED TV. Shadowplayed (Instant Replayed) in 4K with high bitrate settings. Adobe Premiere allows me to export in 8K with high bitrate. Computer is a: I7 8700K @ 3.7 GHz 1080 Ti 16 GB memory
  6. I did a fly through of your Prei Khmaoch Luong terrain in 4K and exported and uploaded in 8K. You're free to use the video on your steam page if you'd like, or any other way you'd like. It's a unique terrain, awesome.
  7. oldbear, et al. interested, Here's a short clip I put up to demonstrate the new PC if anyone's interested in seeing the performance. I replaced my 4k TV to do some experimenting and this video is using a 21:9 widescreen Asus monitor. I don't know if you can make out the small FPS numbers in the upper left hand corner or not. But a simple demonstration of the new rig on a gaming monitor. I'm not sure but I think having two GPUs may help in some of the higher 4k settings, like shadow, according to what I've read. But I take it with a grain of salt and don't want to spread false info. I get some studdering, micro-lag, on both 4k OLED TV as well as with this older Asus widescreen monitor, even though frames are high. It seems to dissipate when view distance is turned down a bit. I'm wondering what the bottleneck is?
  8. First, thanks for the answers everyone, very helpful. It was doing pretty good. I don't have any info, but i was playing in 4k with no problems, very smooth. Down into the high twenties in the AO with default game distances on KOTH. At spawn was seventies ish. I'm on this new rig already and won't be going SLI i guess with current mobo. But the improvement is very noticeable. Running at 4.7 MHz on one click button in bios overclock and upgraded the memory to 4000mhz, trident gskill, two 8gb ddr4 and one 1080ti. Excellent gameplay on this rig, i am recently using the vsync setting in the arma menu for tearing. Very smooth. Rarely drops below sixty. Was in editor and took off vsync. over 100 fps. Very pleased with investment and thankful for guidance. And I was thinking the question about sLI would get people realizing they can't run two 1080ti cards properly on the z370 unless its labled so i guess. It sounds like it would be overkill or definitely an expensive way to pick up five or ten frames if that. Would be great to see test on that for arma.
  9. Does anyone know if the z370 mobo(msi Z370-A Pro) for the i7 8700K provides enough CPU direct PCIe lanes to allow two 1080 ti cards to perform in SLI mode?
  10. Thanks for the guidance guys. That was the information I was looking for.
  11. Haven't pulled the trigger on a new gaming rig yet. Trying to get caught up again. Is the Coffee Lake still the best CPU to get for Arma 3?

    Helicopter camera

Today I noticed a change in the helicopter "feel". Was there a change or could this be client side? This has happened before and I'm not sure what to make of it. it almost feels as if the horizontal camera has changed, giving the heli a stiffer feel. Has anyone else experienced this?
  13. Everyone has some great thoughts here that make a lot of sense. My son is needing a new gaming PC and pressing me for one on a daily basis (in other words my current PC will get handed down to him as soon as I get a replacement) and I have two other sons in line behind him that will share the PC. So to get something quick, it almost sounds like the 7700k is the best go to option with only one 1080ti card in the build as opposed to two (not enough PCI lanes to take advantage). I'm currently playing in 4k 3840 x 2160 (OLED TV) powered by a i7 4930K 4.5 overclocked and two SLI 1080 cards on a three year old plus 250Gb SSD.
  14. I was going to just go ahead and build a 7740x rig or a 7700k rig with two 1080ti cards. Here's what the guy who was going to do the build told me. Thought I'd run it by you oldbear and the other gurus/experts here to get your thoughts. He said, and I quote: "7740x is a waste with 2 GPU's. Only has 16 PCIe lanes." and he also said, "The 7700k would offer marginal at best performance improvement for gaming, and probably be a step back for video editing. It really does not have enough PCIe lanes to fully take advantage of multiple gpus." So we both decided waiting on the 8700k was our best bet based on what the builder relayed to me.
  15. In these two comparisons, the i7-6950X is quite a bit lower on one chart and at the top of the list on the green chart. Does anyone know why this is?
  16. Ok. It looks like I'm waiting for the i7 8700K and doing a new build.
  17. Current Gaming PC: asrock x79 extreme9 Core i7 4930K Processor: 6-Core i7 Ivy-E 4x ADK - DDR3 4G 1600 memory 1.35V (16Gb total) 2 EVGA FTW 1080 GPU SLI Crucial - 480GB M500 SSD Hard Drive: 500 read MB/s / 400MB/s write Do you see any bottlenecks or where i might be able to make a practical upgrade to enhance Arma 3 FPS?
  18. Thanks oldbear for the answer. That i7 8700k sounds awesome. Do you know when it will hit the shelves?
  19. What is the best gaming rig possible to run Arma 3 at the highest FPS in SP/MP with no budget cap? Please include CPU, # of GPUs, RAM, SSD, and especially max memory necessary. No detailed explanation necessary, just the short answer is all I'm after here. Great thread by the way, so informative on this amazing game that has brought me so much pain (mainly the FPS during multiplayer engagements, the most vital moment of the game).

    Helicopter camera

I haven't changed my FOV, was just referring to the new fixed camera. When Oukej zoomed it out for us to get our nose out of windshield as well as the 3rd person view, it fisheyed then I think. It would be great to have that non-distorted view back or the current view without fisheye distortion.

Camera is fisheyed, would be nice to have one that is not, real nice.

Copy that, thank you Oukej, and great work with the camera fixes in my opinion.

Did the speed change on the hummingbird? Does the hummingbird feel slower to anyone? Maybe it's me and I haven't flown for quite some time. I like the tweak to the fov, I can see part of the top of the dashboard on the hummingbird, now doesn't feel like my nose is actually pressed against the windshield. Question for BI: Is there a way to create a zoom out that isn't fisheyed? It is noticeable when your zoomed out and look around--the fisheye distortion--and also this fish-eye distortion affects your ability to guess the distance of objects (depth of view) (For example, when you zoom out it's like one of those helmet cams people use in sports to film themselves doing skateboard/snowboard/tricks, etc.--it looks distorted). Could this be implemented into the game as a future option for the camera or be considered (in other words have the option to have view that the heli zoomed out to as speed increased in the 1.68, pre-jet dlc view?)
