It's technically both. You'd first make the WW2 mod, then make the campaign using it. You just not a fan of WW2 or something? As for the actual "mod" part: The biggest hurdle, or at least the most time-consuming one, would be re-tooling Altis to bring it back to the 1940's. That means almost no powerlines, no wind farms, puny power stations, almost no cars, few street lights, even fewer paved roads (like almost none), none of the smaller airfields (just the main one, and it's smaller because it doesn't have to accommodate jet aircraft) and all the settlements downsized with fewer buildings to reflect the lower population of the time. The architecture would not have to be changed THAT drastically as many Greek buildings are quite old, as you can see yourself looking at many of the buildings on Altis currently. However, some buildings in larger settlements like Pyrgos might have to be de-modernized a little. You'd also have to get rid of the modern defences and research buildings. They you'd have to go around and place fixed defences around the coast and at strong points around the island - bunkers, gun emplacements, trenches, barbed wire, minefields, anti-tank and anti-aircraft emplacements, radar installations, etc. Depending on how much work you wanted to do, you could set them up in such a way that they work for both Act 1 and Act 3, or you could make two separate versions - one for Act 1 (British defences) and one for Act 3 (the more extensive German defences). Stratis would be largely undefended and not changed that much aside from eliminating the modern military installations as it is not that valuable except as a location for a radar station (you could replace Mike-26 with a '40s radar station). In Act 2 I've planned for the Nazis to begin constructing what eventually becomes the Stratis Airport (though you sabotage it for the time being), so a partially complete version of that could be included as well. Weapons would be interesting, as there would be a lot more fixed artillery emplacements but few small arms. As this is 1941-43, the 'cool' late war/rare German stuff like Tiger tanks, Panther tanks, StG44s, and Jet planes would not be included; and while necessary for game balancing, Panzerschrecks and Panzerfausts would not be as ubiquitous and common as they were in the last two years of the war (in reality they likely would never have been issued to a place like Altis so soon after their introduction, but for balancing purposes they're necessary as the British had the PIAT by then). Thus the OPFOR infantry arsenal would be: Kar98k MP40 P38 MG34 MG42 (Act 2/3) FG42 (Act 3) Panzerschreck (Act 3) Panzerfaust (Act 3) Steilhandgranate And their vehicles would be: Opel Blitz Truck Motorcycle Kubelwagen Sdkfz 222 Armoured Car Sdkfz 250 Light Halftrack (Act 2/3) Sdkfz 251 Halftrack (Act 2/3) Panzer II (Act 1) Panzer III (Act 1/2) Panzer IV (Act 2/3) Sturmgeschutz III (Act 2/3) Sturmhaubitze 42 (Act 2/3) Wurfrahmen 40 (Act 2/3) In addition you'd need artillery of various types: 81mm mortar 50mm Pak 38 (Act 2) 75mm Pak 40 (Act 3) 105mm Howitzer (Act 1/2) 150mm Howitzer (Act 3) 4x20mm Flak (Act 2/3) 88mm Flak 36 (Act 2/3) The BLUFOR arsenal: Small arms - Rifle No. 4 Mk I Sten Mk II Webley Mk IV Bren Gun Vickers Gun Boys Anti-Tank Rifle (Act 1/2) PIAT (Act 3) Mills Bomb Sticky Bomb (Act 2/3) Gammon Bomb (Act 2/3) Vehicles - CMP truck Universal Carrier Sexton (Act 3) Daimler Armoured Car (Act 3) Churchill Mk IV (Act 3) M4 Sherman (Act 3) Artillery - 3-inch Mortar 6lber AT gun (Act 3) 17lber AT gun (Act 3) 25lber Howitzer Bofors 40mm QF 3.7-inch AA Gun The INDFOR are guerillas and thus only possess small arms and light mortars: Mosin-Nagant PPSh 41 Tokarev TT-33 DP-28 PTRS Anti-Tank Rifle 82mm mortar RGD-33 RPG-40 British Army, German Infantry, and Royal Marine Uniforms didn't really change, so there's no complexity there. Fallschirmjager uniforms did change, so you'd need a 1941 version (solid colour jump smock, bare helmet) and a 1943 version (Tropical camouflage smock with camo-netted helmet cover). The SS troops would wear their older oak-leaf camo, since they didn't switch to their infamous pea-dot camo until 1944. Both the resistance and the INDFOR would wear old 40s civilian dress, though to differentiate them the INDFOR should wear something to make them standout, like maybe wearing more brown-coloured clothing or wearing Soviet-style berets while the resistance wears more blue-coloured clothing/no berets. You could obviously tell if you're up close, as they'd have hammer-and sickle pendants and whatnot, but from afar they'd look the same unless you made the decision to have them wear slightly different things. You could also add NKGB agents into the game with proper uniforms, though since they'd be few and far between, whether that's worth the effort is questionable.

I have the time to write it but not the time (nor, frankly, the skill or patience) to make this mod a reality. Unless some charitable soul wanted to try their hand at it, it will probably remain an on-paper idea, but a cool one to imagine nonetheless. I know people have made WW2 mods, but I want one that takes place on the in-game maps and pretends historical battles happened there and makes campaigns out of it, for a bit fo historical background on these made-up places. I'm thinking 2 3-Act campaigns, one for Altis and one for Tanoa. All my thought so far has gone into the Altis campaign. Act 1. 1941 - The Nazis invade Altis to eliminate the threat of its airfield to their transports to North Africa, overwhelming the outnumbered and outgunned British defenders. You play as a British Infantryman commanding an infantry section trying to hold out as long as you can. (you are captured at the end). Act 2. 1942 - As a Royal Marine Commando, you carry out reconnaissance and raiding tasks against the German garrison on Altis and Stratis in co-ordination with the Altis Resistance. Meanwhile, the NKGB has started a parallel communist insurgency that so threatens the Nazi garrison that they call in an entire SS mechanized regiment to suppress them. Act 3. 1943 - As the same Royal Marine, you carry out landings on first Stratis and then Altis to liberate the island from the Nazis, but must subsequently deal with an attempted communist takeover of Pyrgos. BLUFOR: British Armed Forces, Altis Resistance OPFOR: Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS INDFOR: Altis People's Liberation Army I have the "history" of Act 1 planned out though not the specific missions you as the player would partake in. Order of Battle for Act 1 (Yes, all these units are fictional - I checked): BLUFOR: Altis Garrison Brigade - 1st Infantry Battalion -> Primary mobile defensive unit; stationed by platoon in various villages and towns -> Player's unit - 2nd Coastal Battalion -> Responsible for manning coastal defensive positions - 3rd Artillery Battalion -> Primary mobile artillery support unit - 4th Anti-Aircraft Battalion -> Responsible for manning anti-aircraft postitions around Altis - 5th Support Battalion -> Responsible for all support activities needed by other units of the brigade - Royal Altis Regiment -> Reserve infantry battalion made up of Altisian soldiers; stationed in and around Pyrgos No. 198 Wing RAF - No. 367 Squadron RAF (Fighters) - No. 376 Squadron RAF (Naval Bombers) - No. 371 Sqaudron RAF (Tactical Bombers) - No. 369 Squadron RAF (Transport) - No. 499 Squadron RALAF "Ralph" (Fighters) -> Altisian squadron OPFOR: Fallschirmjager-Regiment 40 -> Parachute assault unit - 1st Battalion -> Drop northwest of Athira, take and hold Athira and Gravia - 2nd Battalion -> Drop southwest of Athira, take and hold RAF Altis - 3rd Battalion -> Land at RAF Altis once captured, take and hold Telos and Athrakia - 4th Artillery Battalion -> Land at RAF Altis once captured - 5th Support Battalion -> Land at RAF Altis once captured 126th Infantry Regiment -> Main landing force - 1st Infantry Battalion -> Land at Kalithea Bay, cut across island to Thelos Bay, proceed north - 2nd Infantry Battalion -> Land at Kalithea Bay, advance southeast to Pyrgos and Dorida - 3rd Infantry Battalion -> Land at Kalithea Bay, advance southwest to Zaros - 4th Panzer Battalion -> Land at Kalithea Bay after 3rd Battalion, support 2nd Battalion - 5th Artillery Battalion -> Provide heavier artillery support where needed - 6th Support Battalion -> Support activities 127th Infantry Regiment -> Secondary landing force, lands one day later - 1st Infantry Battalion -> Land at Galana Nera Bay, advance south - 2nd Infantry Battalion -> Land at Kavala Bay, advance to Syrta - 3rd Infantry Battalion -> Land at Ammolofi Bay, advance to Syrta - 4th Artillery Battalion -> Split among the landing beaches - 5th Support Battalion -> Split among the landing beaches Luftwaffe Support - 1st Gruppe, Jagdgeschwader 8 - 1st Gruppe, Kampfgeschwader 17 - 1st Gruppe, Transportgeschwader 6 For a combat force comparison, excluding the coastal defence guns (which are mostly un-used), the balance of forces is: BLUFOR: 3 Infantry battalions, 2 artillery battalions, 2 fighter squadrons, 2 bomber squadrons, 1 transport squadron OPFOR: 9 Infantry battalions, 3 Artillery battalions, 1 Panzer battalion, 3 fighter squadrons, 3 bomber squadrons, 3 transport squadrons The battles lasts 4 days. On day 1, the Germans land an airborne regiment near the airfield and seize it, then land an infantry regiment in the middle of the island, splitting the defenders in two. On day 2, a second regiment is landed at various beaches around Altis to exploit the overextended defenders and the German forces take over almost all the major population centers. The remaining British forces surrender by noon on Day 3. On day 4 Stratis is taken after some token resistance from a lone coastal defence platoon and an antiaircraft unit. Images to better illustrate the battle (only goes to day 2, no point in showing day 3 or 4; coastal battalion not shown as it's too spread out): Day 1 from 0000 hours to 0600 hours: http://imgur.com/a/HnFP3 Day 1 from 0600 hours: http://imgur.com/a/OBpDJ Day 2: http://imgur.com/a/9ul30 I gotta go to bed but I will flesh out more soon.
