An open letter on basic ARMA:CWA support

Well it says in readme we shouldn't share before the final version gets made but if you want this beta send me a pm.

An open letter on basic ARMA:CWA support

Well, first example of community-powered patch was made (see pictures thread). It's still pretty buggy but it has some impressive features like 3D sights, join in progress, magazine costumization and some other things. If this will be continued we could eventually see some of the feats previously unimaginable. As for how to obtain it, do some research. It's a 100% unofficial update.

    the war of 1812

Native Americans, finally. ;p ProfTournesol's "Conquistadors" mod looked nice too, wonder if he's still on it.
  5. I was making a Yugoslav wars mission pack/campaign covering all sides of the conflict (Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian/JNA, Kosovan/Albanian, NATO/UN) complete with patriotic music of the era and cinematics but I dropped it all when I got a HDD failure. There was also a Croatian "Balkan wars" mod in the making but it has since fallen into obscurity. The only thing that was released is "Yugo Total War CRCTI mod" which is a collection of addons and CTI missions and can be downloaded here. For WW2 I recommend Invasion 44, Liberation 41-45, WWII MP (collection of addons and missions basically), Pacific War mod which was released on this forum. And for African themes, it doesn't really get any better than Tonal/Tonal Redux with missions for them (also good are Toyota Wars with DMA Libya map).

    why play ofp?

Why not? People still play UT99, Quake II, C-S 1.6, System Shock 2, Doom II, etc. despite these games having graphically superior successors. To me, OFP is a classic game that I find more enjoyable than ArmA 1-3. That's just my taste. Also, it's easier to mod OFP than the newer games in the series and there is tons of user created content with new stuff still comming out. It's also a bit less demanding than the newer games so people with older/weaker systems can play too. edit: agreed with ProfTournesol. OFP is still a very viable platform for modding for both, newcommers and experienced user content makers.

    quick video card question

I would say buying a new processor only for OFP is a bit of a waste because it will never be fully utilized (single core game) but if you intend to also play ArmA 3/ArmA 2, then go for it. The new Intel Skylakes have the best single-threaded performance, especially when OCed. AMDs have worse single-threaded performance but you should gain some performance advantage at higher clocks (4 GHz and up).

    OFP in internet browser

Anyone seen this ? Pretty amazing what kind of water/ocean/wave simulation can already be had in HTML5. Porting OFP over is an attractive thought but it's not something I would know to do. It's a bit like asking for an unofficial multi-core patch ... ;p

    quick video card question

OFP/ArmA CWA vanilla is not GPU-demanding so you'll be fine even with a pretty old card like GeForce 2 or Radeon 7500 or some integrated chipset. But if you run more demanding mods like FFUR series and post-processing programs like DXDLL, you will need a newer graphics chip (lets say GeForce 6600 or Radeon 9800). But you should make sure you have a CPU with good single-threaded perfromance such as Pentium 3 minimum, better yet a Pentium 4 or one of the newer, high clocked intel Core series. On my old Athlon 64 the game was quite laggy in big sized missions or more demanding mods but now I got Intel i5 and it runs much better. You would only need a modern graphics card if you're running the game in super high resolutions like 4K, with custom, super big textures and programs like Sweet FX or ENB.

    CRCTI?

A few new guns, vehicles and islands but also way more options and increased difficulty.

    CRCTI?

Here's some I have stored in my mp cache folder, both BIS crCTI and XROFP crCTI (you need to download XROFP addons/mod for those to work, here's a link; the BIS ones need no addons): http://www.mediafire.com/download/3m6yp7i44qvj4s2/crcti_bis_%2B_xrofp.rar

(SP) Franco Prussian War Mod (1870-1871)

I must say I'm always impressed by how the OFP AI works when walking thru forests, when engaging from distance, in close combat, etc. It might not be super advanced anymore but it's still leagues better from the brain dead and completely scripted AI in many other mainstream games out there. I didn't think melee combat could ever work well, yet your VVV mod proved me wrong. :) And since there's not much in the sense of excessive post-processing or extremely detailed models or textures going on in vanilla OFP, it's a true benchmark for CPUs, even if only single threaded performance. Even OCed i5s and i7s will struggle with tons of AIs on the map at the same time. ;p

    Multiplayer in 2015

Should also be noted that the game tends to be most lively in evening hours, central European time. For example if you want to play some mini Battlefield missions, those take place almost exclusively during evening European hours. I suggest finding some friend who is willing to play with you and downloading some above mentioned mods to join some coop game seasons. You will probably have more issues with CTI stuff as it requires getting used to and also getting the download links (most are broken or hard to find). p.s.: if you want some help you can also join the chat ;p

    Multiplayer in 2015

There's a couple of us playing, making missions and hosting servers for the game. You will see up to 20 people on a server at best these days. Links of interest: OFP Monitor - to see the servers, to join games, to load mods, to chat, etc. 1.96 downgrade patch - this is for CWA users who want to play on 1.96 servers too; I suggest making two copies of the game. Editorupdate 102 - some vanilla missions require this addon. WW4 mod + WW4 Extended - quite some modded servers use WW4 mod. Tupas clan addons/mod - for play on Tupas mod server. LOL addons - for play on LOL server [despite the name not suited for beginners to the game ;p]. Recon addons - for play on Recon servers. XRCTI - the most popular type of CTI mission; not for beginners. You can also check out MFCTI. Crime City addons - addons for Crime City and Nogova Crimes RPG missions; the addonless alternative is Nogville. RU Server addons - addons for this Russian centric server; knowledge of Russian may be needed to play. Make your own server - here's a small guide from me how to set up your own server for OFP/CWA. DXDLL - adds post-processing effects to OFP like reflective water, bloom, night shader, etc. There's ENB and FXAA injector/Sweet FX too but I recommend DXDLL over them. Note that because of how OFP is designed, you can't just jump in into game seasons that already began, meaning you will either have to wait for a new game season or for a reassign from the server admin. It's also highly unrecommended to load any cheats/hacks, teamkill or spam because it will likely earn you a kick or permanent ban from the server.

(SP) Franco Prussian War Mod (1870-1871)

OFP online mp is still alive, you just have to download OFP Monitor to see the servers and of course you will also need some mods to play on some servers. Of course the sp part and mods will remain playlable forever (or atleast for as long as there will be download sites for them). On topic: the train is nice, just too bad we can't drive it ;p

Food for thought, and a rant about "Context"

Props for mentioning WWII Online, that game was doing things thought not possible in it's time and it's still pretty impressive to this day. But I don't think ArmA will head into the MMO direction anytime soon, the MP code and engine is not optimized for large-scale battles at this point. But as advancements in VBS show us, nothing can be ruled out.

(SP) Franco Prussian War Mod (1870-1871)

With mod makers such as yourself there is little fear OFP would ever decline, especially for those who value community contributions. :) But I must also say that I'm yet to try out your other nice mods such as WW1 and Napoleonic. There's just too much stuff made for me to check it out all, as funny as that may seem (I'm working on multiple things at once too, I just rarely feel it's worth releasing ;p).
  19. I mentioned both, Minecraft and Lego Worlds. :)
  20. Well here you go, 20K vd (lowest terrain setting, winter nogojev, afghan everon, ww4 desert malden 2): p.s.: of course this is barely playlable but I took these shots for your viewing pleasure ;p

    Zeus

Missions like this prove that OFP is still a very advanced game with lots of potential, despite it's age and certain engine limits. Keep up the good work. :)

    OFP Addon request thread

Not really, but there is the cool Ninja addon you can download here: http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=8762 He can climb, jump, run and swim, but be sure to have a high framerate or it will not work properly.

    Zeus

What I ment was to include end triggers for certain tasks if that's possible. Else there's no actual objectives there and the only way to end a "mission" is to kill all players. That slider seems to have no big impact on AI behaviour, generally it's the ranks that increase their accuracy.

    Zeus

Cool stuff. Here's some suggestions from me: - the "Zeus" person spawns at the same place as the other players so other players could abuse him if he doesn't teleport fast enough (maybe make him invisible to others?) - it would be cool to have a spectating cam for your own spawned units or for the players team (there was some "spectate" option but I was able to spectate only myself) - objectives for players, either setting the score or time limit before the mission starts or some in-mission objectives like "assassinate that guy", "ambush that convoy", "clear that base", "go to that position", etc. - AI ranks for possible increased difficulty - how about natural disasters like floods, burning trees, falling meteorites, heavy winds, etc? ;p I'm aware this might be a bit too much to ask for and might require some special scripts and/or fwatch to work
