The PS4 might over-shadow some gaming sites, but if there was any concrete details about Arma 3 released, there is not a hope in hell of it going unnoticed!

Forum Search Improvement

Come on guys, I know there are advanced options, but the default place to search for non-technical people is usually the bar at the top right. Posting links to better options here in this thread doesn't cut it if those options aren't exposed and highlighted to new users at the get go. Am not saying doing a successful search is impossible, what I am saying is that the primary site search, the only one that has universal position throughout the site, the bar at the top right, doesn't work half as good as it should. -
There is a wealth of useful information hidden away here on the forums. Yet whenever I see people making new threads to ask questions that have already been answered people always snidely remark "use the search". I have used the search feature, and I don't think it is working as well as it should. For example a search, from the top right site search, for "forum search" returns basically everything not related to forum search, yet when I created this thread, to the right of the title there is a button to "Check If Already Posted", this search returns 5 hits all with "forum search" in the title. I know there are options to manually specify "search in titles" etc, yet the top right search bar for the whole forums defaults to a keyword search that never seems to return the hits I am wanting. The 5 other threads are old threads, and since its frowned upon here to dig up old threads I thought I would make a new one to try and get some discussion going on how to improve accessibility to the information here on the forums. I think even if it is just a matter of changing the default search settings or trying something like a user sourced tagging system would be a good improvement over what is currently available. Preemptive apologies if this is either, in the wrong section, is already answered in another thread, or otherwise deemed as a useless spam thread as happens with a lot of threads.

If everyone uses Google, then why not integrate it here on the site if the forum search is not worth using or supporting? Any half competent web developer can do it: http://www.google.com/cse/ If Google is the answer then have it here on the site, telling people to use Google is effectively telling them to go elsewhere. -
^^ This! I think I will be disappointed if Arma 3 does not at least match or exceed the good AI mods available for Arma 2. ASRAI, TPWCAS with LOS and the old Zeus all seem to have brought something that was missing from the AI.

^^ This is what I mean by snide. Is my post really pointless? I am trying to make a suggestion to try and help this community and my thread is being called pointless, by a moderator. Hardly an inviting or constructive atmosphere is it? Using old threads is a problem, I got a warning my first day here for posting in an old thread, and the post, in the opinion of a moderator, was again pointless. Back on the topic, rather than calling peoples ideas pointless, if Google is a better solution then it is easy to integrate Google search right into this site. The point, yes my post does have a point, was that there needs to be something better to enable content discovery here on the forums themselves, not just passing the buck onto Google, or indeed vBulletin, there are plenty of options available. If too many threads is a problem for a forum web site, then it must be doing something wrong, because that is what forum software like vBulletin is custom built for. PS. Pointless result number 6, that you will never find using the site search... -

This is pretty cool. Gave it a try, noticed that when I alt-tabbed out and went back in it seemed to play two songs over one another for some reason. Now just need to attach the thing to a littlebird and it will be sweet! -

I played OFp back in the day as single player, missed A1, then when A2 came out I tried it, got kicked a lot from MP games for being a noob, then never played it again. Then DayZ came out and I tried that, had some fun, but most importantly met some other regular A2 players. This gave me a chance to play A2 properly and get some fun out of it now that I had some other people to play with that didn't just insta-kick me for being a noob. Now with A3 on the way, I am spending my time trying to get to grips with the editor and how to make missions and scripting etc. I figure the more time spent learning this stuff now for A2 will pay off when A3 comes out. I will test this and post back any findings. Just to be clear about this "stuttering", it just looks like the clouds jump, the game itself still runs fine, for me at least. -

Just been playing for the last half hour. Am not feeling it. AVP Classic 2000 was the best, the speed and feeling of movement was perfect. Aliens seem slow and clunky like AVP 2010. Am not impressed at all. :( -

I can confirm this stuttering issue also. Occurs when running the script on the client. Thanks for the update! :) I had a quick test with ACE and default settings copying from the example mission, was able to do one jump with each halo vehicle then there was no action menu entry for doing another. My mum always tells me "pride comes before a fall". Too much pride and ego going on here. Why are we here making script and missions and what not? To contribute to the community? To make ourselves famous? What is more important? I think the answer to that will reflect the quality of character of anyone who answers it truthfully. If I release anything, my main concern is that it works, and that people can use it and enjoy it. No strings attached like "You must plaster my name all over your stuff cause you used my code". Which is what attribution basically boils down to. -
Me and my friends have been playing with ACE, ASR AI and TWPCAS. I think the AI are deadly, but some guys keep saying they are aiming too high. I will try and get some proper evidence from them to back it up.

If this is the case then we can script these lights to go off by setDamage. I have tried to find the class names and failed. I have also tried shooting these lights and they seem to be invincible. I will keep this in mind and hopefully find the solution eventually... -

The only option to combat people reselling your work is to continue to provide your work for free and hopefully make your work more easily accessible than the paid for options. There is no mechanism for enforcing the rules and terms of a licence, unless you are some big time company with money to spend on lawyers. Just the way it is. Accept it, feel good that you are contributing your work to the community for free. Loathe the scum that take your work and try to charge people for it. Getting upset and stopping your work only hurts the community. I blame capitalism, it allows for this sort of greedy money making activities, and it isn't going to be going away anytime soon unfortunately. Viva la revolution! -

Typical capitalist mentality, I made something on the shoulders of previous peoples work, now I want to earn something from it and prevent others from doing the same. Anyone with enough ego to think they can limit what other people do should just keep their work to themselves. It's like giving a thirsty man a glass of water and telling him not to drink it. Pointless. Community is about contributing, not limiting or obfuscating the knowledge that helps the community thrive and survive. -
