Game won't start!

Recommended Posts

Heyo,

Finally downloaded the game through steam and now it won't run.

When run the game, the icon comes up on my task bar as if its running, and I get a little rectangle in the middle of my screen with 10 little boxes in it. The boxes then get ticked, left to right, but stop at the 3rd last one and it freezes. I have to end the program with task manager, and it says Arma2 stopped working becuase:

Description:

A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: AppHangB1

Application Name: arma2.exe

Application Version: 1.7.71.750

Here are my system specs, sorry if they're a bit vague, I'm not much of a computer whiz.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor 3.4ghz

4gb Ram

ATI 4850 Graphics card

Windows 7

I have tried verifying the game cache, running it in different compatibility modes, but nothing has worked.

Any help would be great, I'm getting desperate here :(

Cheers

Thanks for the quick response guys :D

Tried those things, updated my graphics drivers, downloaded that direct x stuff, but still no go.

I did however finish downloading Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, and i have a similiar problem with it, it gets stuck at the same point. except SOMETIMES, it works for a little bit then crashes and says "cyclic redundancy check".

I've looked everywhere for that arma2.rpt file, but can't find it. Steam doesn't have a profiles root directory for the game.

I'm getting so goddamn frustrated, I'm about to just wipe Steam from my computer and start form scratch, unless you have any other ideas :(

Cheers again for replying :D

Cyclic redundancy check, or CRC as it's well known, is an error usually pointing to corruption in the files.

I would suggest closing steam completely (including in the taskbar) and goto your steam directory and delete a file called "clientregistry.blob".

After that, run steam as administrator. If you're still having issues then make sure that you remove all USB devices you are not using (includes removing joysticks and controllers. Many game controllers have been known to cause similar issues with ArmA when the controller drivers don't load correctly)

If it works fine after removing the controllers then try updating (or possibly downgrading) your game controller drivers.
