Chinagraph/grease pencil option for map annotation

Recommended Posts

First thread and first post. Great community, chaps. I'm glad to be a part of it!

How about a simulation of a chinagraph/grease pencil and clear plastic layer for the map for marking enemy positions, front lines and mission objectives/lines of advance etc? I know there are some icons that can be used but surely it can't be too difficult to implement something akin to MS-Paint to aid in quicker and more accurate orders groups, especially whilst in mission?

Welcome to the community Adge!

This is indeed a great idea. although, have the option to turn it off in multiplayer matches so we don't have people drawing things that don't need to be drawn.

I think it would be cool using my tablet to draw up some military plans.

Not sure, but I think the bandwidth costs might be high with bitmap graphics. Might be better if it was using vector graphics - like if you want to draw an arc it would be just 3 points +/- width, rather than hundreds or even thousands of pixels.

Addon version Not working , there are some issues about serialized variables.

He just mentioned drawing on the map. He never mentioned sharing information, managing sharing, managing transparencies, undrawing information, etc. If all he wants to do is draw onto the local map... that's pretty simple.

As far as I know there's not a tool that does just that. However it is simple then please share a link for such a tool as I'm sure others would like one too.

Welp in Ace there's the map tools option which does let you draw on the map (uses small rectangular markers and makes a bunch, so it's not exactly the greatest, like trying to draw with a thick permanent marker), but uhh yeah Map Plus looks almost exactly the same, and so is probably perfect

He wasn't asking for alternatives, he was making a suggestion.

Reading is hard.

Of course it was a suggestion, it is in the Suggestions forum, and the point has been made to BIS in the first post. However I feel that pointing to currently available tools which may serve a similar purpose in the mean time was a useful and constructive post, unlike yours.

Oh well, I simply missed that. Reading isn't hard it's just that shit happens, you know? Well, you obviously must not, you'd just rather be an ass.
