Nutlink 10 Posted June 25, 2010 No headset is true 5.1, its an emulation and sound trickery to make your head think it is. Don't be lured into the trap :) Depends. Some actually have 3 speakers on each side, giving a 5.1 setup. It's not perfect, but it is real and not emulation and, usually, is better than emulation although not by much. EDcase 87 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Just don't get anything driven by USB. You need a good soundcard to get the best out of a good headset. PS. I've had my Medusa for 3 years with no problems. No headset is true 5.1, its an emulation and sound trickery to make your head think it is. Don't be lured into the trap :) A good headset with 6 speakers and 5 cables connected to the sound card is 5.1 and it will be better than room 5.1 as they will be properly balanced and with no distortion/reflection/reverb from the ceiling, floor or walls. Unfortunately ARMA2 5.1 is not very well implemented so I hope the "improved sound system" in OA works better. Edited June 25, 2010 by EDcase
Infam0us 10 Posted June 25, 2010 I wonder how many here have actually had a 5.1 System of Speakers, and also a 5.1 Headset. Let me tell you having had both there is a difference. I used to be a great fan of Medusa and recommend them to all my friends as I thought the 5.1 would give me the edge ingame because I could hear the enemy before they could hear me. But the truth is, a good quality Stereo headset with a good soundcard has far superior sound quality to the Medusa's and its emulated 5.1 sound. Try it out and see what you think for yourself. I've had the chance to try both and can easily pick out which is best :)
EDcase 87 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Yup, I've got a room with projector and 5.1 ( I did try ARMA on it. Nice but I'd put too many hours on the bulb and no one would get any sleep in the house) I've also tried a stereo headset with simulated surround from a Soundbaster X-Fi (I know not the best) ...and I'm still usin the Medusa ;) When it eventually dies I'll get a good sound card and try that.
