What exactly does the maxmem switch do?

Recommended Posts

I've read several posts mentioning people using maxmem=2047 (search for maxmem or maxmem=2047 turns up a lot but I couldn't find anything descriptive).

Does this increase performance? Stop memory leaks? I have 4GB physical memory on my system, 1GB on my video card. I'm not sure if maxmem is still applicable with 1.05 patch and/or the latest beta patches.

I'm running Vista 64-bit, 4GB RAM, GTX-285, 10,000 RPM Raptor HDD, e8400 CPU at 3.9GHz.

Thanks!

Its an old switch that helped some memory issues on early versions.

Its not used now.

You should have no problems.

In case you haven't got em these switches are useful to speed up load time:

-nosplash

-world=empty
