tj72 0 Posted June 19, 2010 In the newest betas I have seen an improvement on an earlier issue I was complaining about. The AI in 1.05 were sticking in place once enemy contact was made. My complaint was to allow scripting commands and squad leader commands to take priority over this new bounding overwatch feature that was introduced in 1.05. I did not see any changes regarding this in the changelog but it seems to be changed and now in my test mission I have regained scripting controll of AI units while enemy is nearby. Can anyone else confirm that this issue is resolved for them. In my example the AI is grouped and set to careless and all weapons removed. They are given domove commands while enemy is nearby and where they previously would refuse to move now they move but sometimes they stop and start moving again. In another mission I am working on. I have the AI group fall back to a script created waypoint and order them to board a chopper that flies in. Previously they would not fall back and would refuse to stay boarded because, I assume, they were in bounding overwatch mode. I have not tested this yet because of time issues but I hope that problem in the AI behaviour since 1.05 has changed. If someone from BIS development team can confirm AI changes have been made just to give a check on what I have written above, then that would be appreciated. If the AI was modified then it was a good move and I hope some future beta patches become more AI focused as there are alot of issues remaining there. In all my requests for AI change the one consistent element of my requests are this: Give AI scripters true full controll over AI behaviour with enhanced disableAI commands and prioritize those commands above all default behaviours. This way all the hard work by BIS developers is retained and available in default use. If AI scripters wish to enhance the AI they can pick and choose which parts of the default AI behaviours and programming they want to retain and which ones they want to disable so they can implement a custom system. This way more AI enhancement scripts would be available to the community as scripters would be spending less time fighting with default behaviours and more time directly implementing and testing their intended modifications unfettered.
