Mister Frag 0 Posted April 18, 2002 Do you have another program running that might take over the sound device and lock it, such as a music player or voice communications program? Go into the Control Panel -> Sounds/Multimedia -> Audio -> Hardware and see if there is another sound device; usually you'll find "Primary sound device" and one entry specific to your sound card -- try selecting the other one. And run DXDIAG.EXE and test your audio card and drivers.
Transfunsel 0 Posted April 24, 2002 got the same problem here on the hardware tab it shows some devices (cd-rom, joystick etc) and two audio drivers : - creative sb audigy (ok) - legacy audio driver (???) -> this one cannot be deactivated, its properties show standard system device the dxdiag says all is perfect but still if I want to test hardware under voice tab (its the same test ofp preferences does) it gives this strange error message. Transfunsel 0 Posted April 29, 2002 I emailed creative support about this problem, they have a fix for it. to successfullly run through hw-test you have to do the following: - go to control panel->Sounds/multimedia->Audio  and set your hardware acceleration to second lowest! setting. - now perform your hardware-check on the voice-tab. (worked for me ) they gave the advice to make sure the latest chipset-driver are properly installed, although it worked for me with standard ms xp southbridge drivers (I installed amd northbridge drivers after os installation as they were on the mainboard cd) hth
Mister Frag 0 Posted April 29, 2002 Question: can you turn hardware acceleration back to full after completing the test? The reason I'm asking is that EAX doesn't work (at least with Creative Labs cards) unless full acceleration is on.
Transfunsel 0 Posted April 29, 2002 yes you can, you just turn it down for hardware test
Mister Frag 0 Posted April 29, 2002 That sounds like a worthwhile addition to Avon Lady's OFP FAQ.
