.50 cal sniping mission

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a mission using FlipeR's excellent .50 Barret addon, where you play the role of a lone wolf saboteur. Your mission is to sneak behind enemy lines, take out some light targets (& troops), then retreat to the extraction point.

Anyone got any ideas, requests or anything else to add about such a mission?

Make a mission where you have to infiltrate a long way in order to assainate a Key Resistance and East officer making arrangements to rid of the U.S. out of the area.  After that, all hell breaks loose and you have to run, kill, and hide like you never have before to escape.

Do some good cinematic scenes, a good background story, and good enemy unit placing and properly adding some limited support and other stuff.

It shouldn't be an impossible mission to complete, but you should be forced to not use the time compression in order not to blunder into patrols.  Enemy Armor should be more of a show of force than used to hunt you, but a few tanks or BMP's should be used to discourage borrowing enemy vehicles and trying to make a getaway in them.

Let me know if I can help you in your mission design, I'm looking for some assistance in some good missions I have.

Let me know what you think,

Later,

Mr. Hitman.

ok, if your using a weapon as long range as the barrett, then theres really only a few things you can do with it. Assassinations, and support of infantry operations. But if your a lone wolf saboteur, then it should be an assassination.

What island are you making this on?

A convoy ambush would be good. Attach a small anti-armor team to handle any of the heavier targets and snipe soft targets from long range.

good call.

Also, distinguish between soft and hard targets. I found a BRDM is very soft for the barrett to handle. Id imagine UAZs and URALs of all types would be too.

While everything from a BMP up would be a waste of .50 ammo

pretty much. I tried that, and even a SCUD takes about a clip and a half. Anything above a BRDM, dont waste your ammo; youd only draw attention to yourself. I, of course, prefer to simply cap the driver.

All good suggestions guys. I'm still in the planning stage at the moment, so I haven't decided on a location yet (most likely somewhere on Everon).

I wanted to stay away from an assination mission if I could, as there are already lots of these out there, and these can be accomplished with the standard sniper rifle.

The primary role of the .50 is anti material, so I was thinking more along the lines of harrassing a convoy or destroying soft targets parked at an enemy encampment.

Also, would it be too unrealistic if I were to give the saboteur (possibly a black op) other equipment such as mines, satchel charges or grenades?

What about insertion, should it be heli-drop, or coming in by land or sea?

Hey, the black op has 10 whole item slots, not including weapons and binoculars\night vision. what you put in them is up to you. Wouldnt recomend mines, as that barrett would be a little iffy in close quarters if you had to defend yourself while placing them.

If your goal is anti material, just make a large area on everon (or wherever you make this) especially heavy with vehicle traffic, and not so much infantry. Id just have a bunch of BRDMs, URALs, UAZs, various support vehicles and whatnot just patroling around on roads, and some stationed in towns and things. And then you could create camps with lots of support vehicles (ammo, fuel, and repair trucks) as sort of a supply depot. That'd make a good Barrett target.

Have you decided if its just going to be you doing this, or will you have a team?

At the moment just me, but if that changes I'll be sure to let you know.

OK, anyone know what kind of load a real .50 operator carries, like number of mags and so on?

well, just how much realism are you going for? I imagine any sniper would take as much ammo as he\she saw fit for the situation they were about to go into. Whenever i play a dedicated sniper in any mission i make myself, i always carry at least 8 mags. I put something like smokeshells or frags in the other two. I find that to be a good kit. Also, take both binoculars AND night vision. even if its not at night, a complete survival kit just feels nice wink.gif

As far as your insertion goes, it depends on the terrain where the mission will take place. If your going to be inserted behind enemy lines, going  right into hills and forests very soon after the mission starts, you might consider a beach insertion by boat. very quick, very stealthy.

If theres an actual line between enemy and friendly territory, you might consider being dropped off right outside enemy lines by air, and going in on foot.

right on, fubar. So where did you decide to make this mission?

here is a piece of my mind:

the best mission for a sniper with barret going solo is attacking a command center:

couple of BRDM's, UAZ, some tents and some squads defendind it on key points.

i would suggest to put another team member but if u go solo here is the load they take:

Barret+4 mags of 10 bullets

M-16 (short) + 4 mags

2 smokes

2 claymores

2 frags.

ghilli suit.

thats the basic load and it fucking heavy! about 25 kg.

if u give him a point, that would be more realistic.

edit: forgot NVG.

and the insertion method can be on foot or arial, thats the best.

the reason to take m-16 is the fact that u just cant fight worth a damn with a 28 pds. sniper rifle!

and i'll remind that it takes varrying numbers of shots to take out some vehicles, so id say the more ammo for the barrett, the better

Yeah, it sounds like you will want to do a regular support type smashing spree of vehicles and some infantry.

There are only 3 main types of combat I really like to do if I am playing someone else's missions. That is: Infiltration and assasination, special ops, Helo and Aircraft ops, and Commanding Armor.

Ordinary support and assault missions have a hard time impressing me, but I am working on a mini-campaign that is mostly general support and assault missions. (Ironic isn't it? biggrin.gif )

I've already had some good reviews of the demo for the 3 mission mini-campaign I am making. It does have some slight tweaks and things needing to be added and removed for the demo, but overall I think it simulates combat well and it is just a taste of the full 2 or 3 missions I will be releasing soon.

I guess I just have fun making them more than playing them.
