Michael Withstand 10 Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) For years games that come out for the PC market has been somewhat a dismay except for a very few but I've never felt so enthusiastic about a PC game than with ArmA 2. I'm planning to buy a new rig to get the most of this game. I'll continue whatever support I can by buying ArmA 2 add-ons. The mods are great, most of the community are great too and the gameplay is great too. I'm one happy customer :bounce3:. Don't come out with ArmA 3 just yet this ArmA 2 has got a lot of potential yet to be developed. I'm going to play this for a long time :D Thank you BI. I know you guys are not American because we can tell an American product by the flash yet dumb gameplay while this one shoots out of the roof to be smart and very compelling. ArmA 2 is daring and frighteningly awesome. Edited May 19, 2010 by Michael Withstand
WimpoD 10 Posted May 19, 2010 I concur! Since buying ArmA2, I've returned to my PC roots and am really enjoying my time gaming at the moment. I have set up a saving plan up until June 29th, where I plan on getting my new rig just before the release of Operation Arrowhead. This game is truly refreshing, and I know the hardcore fans are like "yeah, this is old school for us"; for me it's something new and something so radically different to every other title out there. The community's brilliant, the mod scene thriving, and the actual gameplay is gritty realism. Bravo BI! Bravo!
EDcase 87 Posted May 19, 2010 Yep, it sure is a great game. As with many here, I've been playing since the first release of OFP in 2001. I tried other shooters along the way but they always got repetitive and boring quite quickly so I never stopped going back to OFP & ARMA. (I did like 'Joint Operations') Its not surprising that after the success of OFP BIS created a sister company (BIA) to work on VBS and now VBS2: http://virtualbattlespace.vbs2.com/ ARMA keeps going from strength to strength. (I'm looking forward to 'Carrier Command' too)
r3volution 0 Posted May 19, 2010 The OFP/Arma series certainly has a certain something that other games lack. After playing far too much Arma (the first game in the series I played) my attempts to play other FPS games have been limited by the fact that no other game has the scope and diversity of Arma/Arma2. I play other games sporadically, but nothing chews up my PC time more than Arma2 at the moment. Once you've had a taste and grown to like the slightly masochistically realistic pace of the game, it seems to inspire a certain starry eyed fanaticism, which other gamers often seem slightly wary of. In all my years playing the series, I haven't yet encountered another person in real life who has heard of, let alone plays Arma2. None of my friends seem to 'get' the style of the game, but then they're mostly twitch action gamers to the core. The key seems to be to realise that Arma2 isn't for everybody and in fact is probably one of the best examples of a cult niche in computer gaming. The community though (and BIS through providing the tools for them to work with) is what makes this game/series the most impressive I've encountered in my close to 2 decades of computer gaming. The sheer scale and variety of the mods is just awe inspiring, and even more so once one is cognisant of the vast effort in man-hours behind them. BIS has provided us with a fantastic sandbox to play in, and the community has consistently run with it, and filled that sandbox with the most amazingly detailed and professional mods of any variety imaginable. All of this makes the next bit so sweet, as due to an unexpected computer upgrade, I'll be playing OA on a computer that can actually handle it (unlike the release of Arma and Arma2 which both happened on the ass end of my upgrade cycle). Also for the first time I'll be able to go back and play the vast number of missions I've made over the years and been unable to play except at a crawl. FREAKIN SWEET! :D Basically, I fucking love this series and this gaming community. There, I said it. ;)
