Issue - Lost Video Screen

Recommended Posts

Hey All. Just got ARMA2 loaded onto my newer pc (gave my previous one away). The problem I have is that I'm playing some of the training missions and randomly (when I'm running, flying, walking) I crash to the desktop. Crash isn't the right word because ArmA2 is still running minimized. I can try to maximize it, but all I see is my desktop. I hear myself walking or getting ready to crash my plane; but cannot see anything.

I tried reverting to an older video driver. I tried changing video settings. This system is a clean install of Win7 with the latest drivers, Arma2, and its 1.05 patch so I'm not sure what to do. Any help is appreciated. System details are:

Intel Core2Duo E7300 2.66Ghz

4Gb ram

Win7 Ult 64bit

GeForce 9800GT 195.62 and 196.21 drivers

running ARMA 1.05

thanks,

Grom

BTW I also enabled WinXP sp3 compatibility with disabled visual themes and that did not help...

This problem also happens to me. Don't worry you not the only one. Best part is the I have the Same card as you but Im am using windows Vista 32-Bit. This is an issue related to the nvlddmkm driver that has not only plagued Arma, it has been killing Every Video Game on the market. Yes Every Single Video Game. To Prevent or have a less of a chance of this happening the next time. Turn down you video settings.

You can also Have you Nvidia control panel to edit and change you video settings.

To do that Go to:

\\Start > Control Panel.

\\\ > Appearance and personalization

<Note Im using Windows Vista> For me I will click on Appearance and personalization. Windows XP can be Diffenent

Then click on

> Nvidia Control Panel.

On the left side of the screen it will say pick a task. You will want to go to "Manage 3D Settings". You will then see Two different tabs. One will say "Global Settings" and the second will say "Program Settings" Here you are able to set to what you want you video card/Computer can do with a program.

Then find the "Power management mode" under the "Program Settings" and set it to "Prefer Maximum Performance"

Please Note - This is only recommended for games or 3D Applications.

- Most Hardware experts will say Set you video game resolution to the same resolution as you desktop to prevent crashes or mishaps.

- Also Check for updates on the newest Microsoft DirectX. This can also help prevent those problems.

The problem with the nvlddmkm driver is when you have your program or application set to high it will cause what is know as a "Black Out" to the Nvidia users. So Set your program to a lower settings to also prevent that from happening.

Hope this helps:D

And for the rare time it does happen, holding shift then typing:

Keypad minus FLUSH

will bring it back. :)

When I had Vista Ulti 64, this was a must do, but with W7 it is not, or is it just me?

Well Im have never had Windows 7, But I have seen it before. Reason that it is a must not for you on Windows 7. W7 tend to preform faster then Windows Vista because it has less background programs/services to run. But do note Future updates will install new Background services. This has been the Same with Windows Vista and XP, and previous versions of Windows.

But for now, Enjoy the speed and Power of Windows 7 my friend.:yay:
