Extending grass drawdistance?

I have been looking to extend the grass drawstance just to see how much of a performance hit it will be. Till now I didn't find anything using the search here and on the armaholic downloads page.

Did anyone try to extend the grass drawdistance? If so, was it still playable? Is a there a mod available that I missed in my search?

Is there any way to edit this without working in the standart ArmA pbo files?

Probably, with just a Config patch addon, but as the settings in question are buried deep down the terrain config tree, its not going to be an easy one to code.
