Mister Frag 0 Posted April 7, 2002 I know you aren't interested in using the built-in voice communications, but have you tried using the Voice Setup in the Preferences program to test your sound hardware? I order for you to be able to use any voice communications, your card has to be capable of full-duplex operation -- the Voice Setup process will test for that, and make sure that the drivers are DirectX8-compliant. You can also run the DirectX diagnostics (DXDIAG.EXE) and test the driver there, although this won't test the card's ability to record. If all else fails, look for newer versions of the sound card drivers. You're going to have to find out exactly what sound card you have, you should be able to find out by looking in the Device Manager in the System applet of the Control Panel. §nake 0 Posted April 7, 2002 alright, I did the sound test, and had no problems through it... now I should be able to talk and listen.. or not??
Mister Frag 0 Posted April 8, 2002 It means that the sound card and the driver for it are capable of full-duplex operation (recording and playing at the same time). You may want to check if the VoIP program you intend to use has special configuration options that control how sound is mixed. If there is a generic setup for DirectSound/DirectPlay/DirectX, use that. By the way, using the built-in VoIP feature has one nice feature that add-ons can't provide: the Side/Vehicle/Direct/Team channels. Also, the vast majority of on-line players use the built-in VoIP, using another program limits you to a small subset of people you can talk to. For clan games that obviously isn't a problem, but for general MP games, it is.
