Soft transitions between sky states

Recommended Posts

Hello

I'm currently making a custom sky so I have a question as just replacing files (jasno.pac, oblacno.pac etc) doesn't cut it.

F.e. there is a clear sky right now and then - BLAM - it instantly changes to the overcast state without any soft transition as seen in other mods (like hisky). So how to fix it?

As I take it this has to do something with how you export the PAC file (I'm using the exporter for photoshop) - if yes - what settings should I use?

I fixed that issue in my personal sky packs by adding a little bit of transparency on the textures. 1% is enough. Try it out.

Thanks for the tip but can you tell me which software (was it PS plug-in or PAA tool or TexView etc) with which settings and which source file format (and bit depth) you used for them?

I used TexView to compress them, but apparently you can get better results with PAA tool, quality wise. TGA 32bit. The bit depth doesn't really matter, as TexView compresses it to 24bit anyway.

Thanks - works this way. Photoshop plug-in seems to produce incompatible PACs (or probably needs some in-depth tweaking - however it also refuses to open some of flashpoint's PACs so it can be anything) but TexView worked fine.

Yes, the Photoshop plugin was made for ArmA anyway, not OFP. The PAA/PAC compression in ArmA is different from OFP and even supports 32bit, which is not compatible in OFP. It would be recommended to always use OFP tools for your OFP works to ensure the best compatibility.
