Breakn3ck 10 Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) I'm sure this is an elementary question, but it's really been bugging me lately. I have yet to experience the use of either of these command menus in campaign mode. The menus are always gray when I go to utilize them. I just can't pick any of the options! Do we seriously have to wait until we've either been fired upon or have spotted enemy infantry before we can even utilize these commands? Shouldn't we at least be able to set different combat modes at any time? Edited December 17, 2009 by Breakn3ck
dmakatra 1 Posted December 17, 2009 They should be open? Maybe you have to select units before they're available?
Breakn3ck 10 Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) I knew somebody was gonna say select the group first, lol.... have faith when I say everyone is selected yet all these menu items are gray and unusable for me. I feel silly just having to ask about this. I know how to setup custom teams, assign different tasks, you name it. Engagement and combat routines just don't work! I've read / watched tutorial after tutorial to try and find something I'm overlooking. It's almost to the point where I'm about to just give up on this game. I mean, talk about retracting from the user experience when you can't even control the meaty part of your AI. It has to be something simple. I'm not too keen on the concept of a reinstall since I'd have to download from Steam all over again. :( Selecting via quick command (spacebar) and single unit (Function Keys) has no bearing on this. All commands are still gray when the menu comes up. Did they disable these abilities in campaign mode only or something? I may have to get a SS of this in game so people don't think I'm some naive buffoon. Edited December 17, 2009 by Breakn3ck
77scout 10 Posted December 17, 2009 Menu items 5 and 6 only apply to an individual soldier. If you select only one guy (e.g. F2) then these menus should be active (not greyed out)...they are on my game anyway. If you select more than one guy (e.g. spacebar) I think the 5 and 6 menus will be inactive. If you are not the squad leader then of course you can't give commands, but I am sure you know that already.

So are you saying that in order to make your entire squad 'danger' aware you have to individually select each soldier and apply the danger command? Hmmm... that doesn't sound logical. Something else has to be wrong. Nonetheless, thanks for the feedback guys. Hoping to get this figured out.
TRexian 0 Posted December 17, 2009 In the campaign, are you the team leader? (Haven't played through the campaign, so no clue how it goes.) :)
Breakn3ck 10 Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) In the campaign, are you the team leader? (Haven't played through the campaign, so no clue how it goes.) :) Hey TRexian, Thanks for taking time to post. Early missions in the campaign put you behind an AI squad leader and you're not allowed to command your group in any respect. You can only copy commands given, call out injured status etc. Once you get through the first couple missions they put you in charge of your team. I have all their group icons in the lower left denoting how many or which one in particular is selected. You can even break them up into their own teams if you want. So yeah, I'd say I have 'team lead' status. I may have to try sandboxing tonight for the first time and see what it does on a custom map. It's starting to sound like everyone that has no issue with this is coming from a multiplayer or custom map experience. jakerod 254 Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) I was under the impression that: 1.) Movement 2.) Target 3.) Fire Commands/Engagement 4.) Mount 5.) Status 6.) Action (for individual soldiers) 7.) Combat Mode (Danger, Safe, etc.) 8.) Formation 9.) Team Do you have your numbers messed up? Although if you have everyone selected I think that 5 and 6 should still be active. Since you can ask "All, Report Situation". Do you have a screenshot you could show us? Edited December 17, 2009 by Jakerod

I'm at work and I couldn't recall exactly what the numbers were, nonetheless, combat mode is my biggest concern. I've never been able to set their awareness levels (danger, safe, etc) or approach to combat. Menu item 3 should work fine obviously as long as I have the mouse over an enemy unit (context sensitive). I'll get a screenshot up soon as I'm home from work today. This should clear up any confusion, as I imagine its something I'm misinterpreting... Edited December 17, 2009 by Breakn3ck
Breakn3ck 10 Posted December 17, 2009 Things like this always end in user error, as such, I'm am now officially another statistical e-tard. Things are working just fine now guys. Thanks for the suggestions to those that replied!

You asked about menu items 5 and 6, which are commands for individual members, and I was only talking about menus 5 and 6. 'Danger' is in menu 7. What has that got to do with it menus 5 and 6? Menu items 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, and 9 are commands that can apply to more than one squad member.
