PaulyJ 10 Posted October 26, 2009 Because if it does not i have got to try to understand my Joypad bindings a bit better Turn Left/Right = Turns your nose in that direction, the faster your going the the smaller the increment of turn will be. Bank Left/Right = This would be the best way to do a 180 degree turn on the move. Pedal Up/Down = I dont get this one it seems to do the same thing as the Bank Left/Right. I will be flying in a straight line at a lowish speed and it feels as though the tail wants to turn of it's own free will, this could be an uncentered Joypad stick i suppose but is it wind? Could someone explain The flight of Choppers please.
franze 196 Posted October 26, 2009 As a helicopter's speed increases, the vertical stabilizer gains more resistance due to air flow and thus reduce the tail rotor's effectiveness. In essence, the faster a helicopter goes, the more it behaves like a fixed wing aircraft. This is why in real helicopter flying, loss or damage to the tail rotor is supposed to be countered by pitching the nose forward and gaining forward speed. ArmA does tend to overdo the effect, but below 30kmh, the effect shouldn't be prominent.
Evil_Echo 11 Posted October 27, 2009 ACE for ArmA1 included wind effects on helos. If you cranked it up a bit landings got a lot more tricky.
PaulyJ 10 Posted October 28, 2009 Cheers for the replies guys, So Vanilla Arma1 does not simulate wind, personally i think flying a chopper should be a very difficult skill the harder the better, so i'll have a look at installing the Ace mod. On the topic of controls i have found i can fly choppers succesfully if not skillfully without using the pedals, i have unmapped them from my joypad because i can't tell how they affect the flight. wipman 1 Posted October 29, 2009 Hi, the rudders or pedals only have an effect at low speeds on the game, i've never seen the wind having any effect on the vanilla ArmA, not for planes, not for choppers, not for ballistics of any weapon or weapons systems or enviromental effects like clouds, fog, camp fires or anything. So the ArmA does not simulate or have the wind into account at least that i know or that i'd noticed. Let's c ya
Evil_Echo 11 Posted October 29, 2009 For vanilla - that is true. But mods do bring wind into play a lot more. Otherwise it's just flags and smoke effects for the most part.
